Reporting to the Supervisor, School Crossing Assistance Program, or designate, be responsible for directing the crossing of school-age children and pedestrians across a highway at an assigned location/intersection during designated periods. Responsibilities

Duties include directing the movement of children across a highway; maintaining contact with school(s) and reporting student problems; notifying supervisor of unsafe conditions, traffic violations and problems; maintaining equipment provided in good condition; and participating in data collection.

Requirements:

Knowledge and skill generally associated with the completion of partial high school and three (3) months of experience working with children, or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Good communication skills, both oral and written. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to deal with children, parents and the general public in a courteous and tactful manner.

Clean and neat in appearance in order to meet the public.

Suited to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Able to work in difficult situations. Must be physically and mentally fit; able to climb, stretch, twist, lift and carry items of up to 1 kg.; stand and walk for periods of up to 1.5 hours; good hearing and visual senses and perception. Circumstantially and temperamentally adjusted to work alone and to work split shifts.

Able to access designated crossing on foot in a reasonable period of time.

Must have and maintain a telephone at place of residence. Must be, and remain, a resident of the City of Oshawa.

Knowledge of Traffic Laws.

Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment, reasoning and leadership qualities.

Under the supervision of an Aquatic Program Specialist or Aquatic Training Specialist, this position performs responsible lifeguard and/or instructional duties at any City of Regina aquatic facilities. The work assigned involves ensuring the safety of patrons and proper facility usage. This position may be transferred between aquatics facilities and will be required to work non-standard hours.


Typical duties include:

• Ensures that proper safety procedures are followed an in cases of emergency, performs first aid, water rescues and other lifeguarding skills and techniques as required.
• Carries out responsible lifeguard and instructional duties and ensures a safe and healthy environment conducive to aquatic enjoyment and education.
• Participates in mandatory sessional staff training and development programs.
• Assumes responsibility for individual lesson plans, class attendance, class evaluations, progress cards, and test sheets as required.
• Enforces swimming pool rules and regulations as outlined by the City of Regina and the Saskatchewan Public Health Act.
• Assists in cleaning and disinfecting duties, as required.
• Supervises the activities of the patrons using the facility, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Maintains good public relations with patrons and facility staff.
• Performs related duties as required.

Experience and Education:
 

• Experience in dealing with clients at aquatic facilities providing lifeguarding and recognized Lifesaving Swim for Life or equivalent instructional services.
• A minimum of Grade 10. *Can currently be in progress*

Must possess the following awards and certifications:

Must have the following:
 

• Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service -Pool(NL)
• Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certification; or Swim Transition Instructor Clinic AND Swim Patrol Instructor clinic completed
• Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

• Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR/AED-C
• St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid & CPR/AED-C

Job Description

Tasks & Responsibilities of this position include:

• All duties and responsibilities normally performed by site security personnel;
• Daily supervision of Security Personnel, oversee scheduling requirements, security assignments, incident reporting and patrols;
• Oversee and assist in monitoring all sensitive areas and controlled access points;
• Immediately respond and assist with security & life safety related requests made by customers, tenants and employees;
• Respond immediately to emergencies and co-ordinate activities in accordance with established and approved lawful policies and procedures;
• Ensure staff compliance with all log books, posted memos, brief books, written or verbal instructions and policies are read, initialed and understood by all staff;
• Complete daily supervisory inspections as detailed by the Security Manager;
• Oversee staff operation and compliance of department computer and technical equipment. Supervise the use of memo books, security uniforms and equipment. Monitor calls to dispatch and assist staff accordingly;
• Assist the Security Manager with training and development of Security Personnel;
• Ensure all Security reports are completed to site standards and filed appropriately;
• Provide feedback to improve the process in the protection of assets;
• Ensure that proper procedures are observed relative to reporting of liability claims and completion of occurrence reports;
• Maintain communications with retail tenants, local law enforcement agencies local fire prevention personnel and local emergency medical services personnel;
• Help implementation of emergency procedures, disaster recovery plans, building access control, security systems, reports and recommendations;
• Any other tasks as directed by the Security Manager and/or General Manager.

Skills & Experience Required:

The preferred candidates will possess:

• College diploma in Law Enforcement and/or Security Administration;
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in retail environment;
• Proven supervisory experience;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Be self-motivated, diplomatic and confident individual in order to deal with tenants and the public;
• Possess a valid Saskatchewan Drivers Licence;
• Familiar with applicable health & safety legislation (eg. WHMIS, Occupational Health & Safety);
• Certified in CPR, First Aid, AED & Oxygen Administration;

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Perform safety / Hazmat / accident / incident / near misses’ investigations timely, contributing factors identified, prepare reports and summaries for review by operational leadership/HR, and ensure any improvement plans identified, implemented

•    Adhere to related federal and provincial requirements, as well as submit all required regulatory filings (e.g., LAB reports, EAHOR) 

•    Review and analyze accident / incident and injury data and action planning to identify risks and put controls in place

•    Manage and follow up on all Riskmaster relating to Vehicle Accidents

•    In collaboration with stakeholders and utilizing QDM methodology, develop and implement a comprehensive and sustainable safety strategy and ensure annual reviews are completed to reduce accidents and injuries

•    Act as local contractor relations liaison by maintaining relationships with contractors and vendors

•    Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures and work practices to ensure OHSA and regulatory compliance as outlined by provincial and federal law for the transportation and trucking industry

Job Summary:

• Performs the surveillance necessary to ensure the safety of all aquatic centre users.

• Prevents accidents by enforcing health regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to the aquatic centre.

• Performs rescues and first aid necessary for the preservation of life in a team setting.

• Teaches aquatic instructional programs outlined in the Sports Services curriculum.

• Completes administrative and support tasks including pool tests, attendance, incident reports, instructor report cards, facility maintenance tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor

• The position requires the flexibility to work morning, day, night and/or weekend shifts at the aquatic centre.

Essential Qualifications:

• Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED from WSIB approved provider Lifesaving Society Airway Management or an equivalent oxygen therapy certification
