What will you do?

As an Equipment Operator III during Summer months, you will:

  • Operate a sweeper engaged in the sweeping of roadways and bike lanes
  • May operate Loader, Grader, and other various types of Operator III equipment as required
  • Carry out minor maintenance requirements
  • Perform daily inspection of equipment and report deficiencies
  • Safely operate the assigned equipment following the occupational hazards applicable to the work

As a Truck Driver III during the Winter months, you will:

  • Operate a tandem or single-axle sand/plow while engaged in snow and ice control
  • Load and unload materials
  • Perform routine maintenance duties, such as cleaning the truck box and worksite, and performing routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • Be aware of obstacles adjacent to the road to avoid damage to Public Property when operating the plow, including snow off the wing
  • Inform the lead hand of any on-the-road issues with equipment or observed accident or property damage
  • Complete simple paperwork and reports such as but not limited to: defect slips, time cards, manifest logs, safety and damage reports, spills
  • General labour including brushing, manual sidewalk cleaning, sanding, snow shoveling, pothole repairs, manually spread sand on icy areas, and other snow and ice-related duties
  • Ensure all work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health & Safety Program and Enviso - Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Must have 2 years of experience operating a Street Sweeper
  • Must be COE Trained and fully passed on a Street Sweeper unit
  • Must have 1 year of experience operating tandem or single axle sander/plow truck engaged in snow and ice control
  • Must be COE trained and fully passed on a Tandem Plow/Sander unit

Assets:

  • City Grader and Loader training and passed considered to be an asset

  • Leading the delivery of planning and preliminary design projects/studies, including the procurement and management of professional consulting services, leading project working teams, related meetings, Public Information Centres (PICs), Community Meetings/Workshops, managing project budgets, and preparing and presenting reports.
  • Providing engineering and/or project management support to the Transportation Project Engineers/Transportation Project Leaders in the delivery of large and/or complex planning and preliminary design projects/studies, including Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) studies, Integrated Road Projects, major transportation/corridor studies, travel demand forecasting, higher order transit studies, microsimulation, safety and traffic data analysis, feasibility studies, conceptual design, preliminary designs of municipal roadways and roundabouts, and other transportation related issues.
  • Working with a variety of government related agencies, City departments, and consultants regarding transportation infrastructure planning related issues.
  • Ensuring coordination and consistent reporting of issues and communications at all levels with stakeholders and constituencies, including government related agencies, City departments and external consultants.
  • Assisting the Transportation Project Engineers/Transportation Project Leaders with the negotiation of agreements between the City and third parties dealing with cost sharing, division of responsibilities, land interests and other issues to advance infrastructure projects of mutual interest.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations, as required to internal/external stakeholders, senior leadership, members of Council, community groups and others.
  • Advancing the City's Strategic Plan priorities related to transportation infrastructure improvements, including "Completing Our Neighbourhoods", "Developing a Transit Oriented City" and "Living Green".

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary graduate from a recognized university with a degree in Civil, Transportation or a related engineering program and a registered P.Eng. designation in good standing with the PEO, or a post-secondary graduate from a recognized college in Civil or Transportation Engineering Technology or a related applied science technology program with a registered C.E.T. designation in good standing with OACETT.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience in transportation engineering and infrastructure planning including design of municipal roadways (including roundabouts, grade separations, active transportation and municipal services), transportation feasibility and corridor studies, traffic studies and multi-modal transportation projects.
  • Municipal experience is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to assist in the preparation of reports, comments, presentations and to interact with various internal departments as well as members of Council, external agencies and consultants in a tactful and politically sensitive manner. 
  • Good working knowledge of standard computer software (Word, Excel, Outlook), as well as traffic analysis such as Synchro/Sim Traffic, HCS and CADD/Microstation would be an asset.

Formula for success 

  • Utilizing your experience with driving and transportation you will ensure that blood and blood products are transported in accordance with safety measures and procedures and are kept at an appropriate temperature. You will also ensure the safety of employees, donors and/or volunteers travelling with you. 
  • Drawing on your knowledge of safe transportation procedures and your attention to detail, you will conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working order, and accurately complete all required documentation. 
  • Leveraging your customer service skills, you will assist the collections team by greeting and helping donors book or rebook appointments as required. 
  • You will assist with setting up systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events by utilizing your familiarity with technology and aptitude for learning new programs.  
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills you will work with staff to carry and set up/dismantle equipment and supplies. You will also load and unload equipment and supplies at donor centre sites and upon return to centre. 

 

Desired education and skills   

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must possess a valid New Brunswick Class 2 drivers license and a clean commercial drivers abstract from within the last 30 days. 
  • Minimum 24 months verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle driver, within the last 3 years. 
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs. 
  • A willingness to learn procedures in a regulatory environment. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English. A second language is considered an asset.

Rogers is seeking a Transport Planner to join the team as an individual contributor. This position, reporting to the Manager of Transport Planning (West), will be part of a technical team responsible for planning and preliminary design work transforming and evolving the IPRAN network to a Unified Access Transport network supporting Service Expansion and major Wireless/Wireline Programs such as 5G, New Site Builds.

 

What you will do:

  • Develop and maintain short and long range capital budget plans to sustain, upgrade and grow the Access Transport network, in collaboration with National and other Regional Planning teams and business partners
  • Transitioning of the IPRAN transport network to a Unified Access Transport network supporting Wireless, Residential & R4B traffic.
  • Preliminary design and preparation of capital & operating cost estimates for IPRAN/Unified Access Transport (UAT) to support programs rollouts.
  • Preparation of Engineering planning/design specifications for changes to the IPRAN/UAT Network.
  • Resolution of Network congestion issues and development of proactive plans to identify and avoid congestion impacts
  • IPRAN/UAT topology design, optimization, and capacity dimensioning
  • Issuance of Transport Program Plans to support UAT, Service Expansion, and Wireless programs
  • Qualify Transport solutions with particular bias to Wireless IPRAN network

 

What you bring:

  • Preference given to applicants who possess a P.Eng or higher certification and authenticate documents 
  • Highly effective individual, adaptive to shifting priorities, strong communication skills
  • Strong understanding of Transport Networks and well versed on industry and Rogers standards, vendor roadmaps for next generation networks & products
  • Experience in planning and designing Optical, Microwave and Fibre Networks is recommended
  • Experience with advanced analytics in Excel, VBA, SQL, and data visualization
  • Experience in deriving and communicating data-driven insights
  • Education experience should include a post-secondary education, preferably Bachelor of Engineering in an appropriate discipline. 
  • Excellent skills in Project Management tools, Excel and Powerpoint an advantage.
