Our Bus Fleet Maintenance team is seeking a Serviceperson II on contract for up to 12 months to service buses under the supervision of the Supervisor, Fleet Maintenance. 

What will I be doing?

  • Servicing, fuelling, parking and Bus cleaning as it relates to the fuel and mop lines.
  • Performing change-offs as required
  • Services the bus fleet by fuelling, sweeping, driving, and checking buses, circle check inspections, and performing minor repairs.
  • Performs interior, exterior and maintenance cleaning duties on the bus, and support fleets.
  • Completes on-the-road change-offs and road calls.
  • Performs spills containment and clean up.
  • Performs emission tests.
  • Performs wheel-nut torques.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Knowledge of motor vehicle repairs normally attained through completion of a high school program with an emphasis on motor vehicle repairs. 
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in servicing buses or heavy equipment, as well as, assisting with repairs in bus or heavy vehicle maintenance environment.
  • Must successfully complete mandatory environmental, safety and all other training required by corporate policy including new courses that are or could be adjusted with these policies
  • Knowledge of vehicle repairs and evolving technologies including new Electric Vehicles (EV) would be considered an asset. 
  • Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence and must meet corporate standard for a good driving record. A Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 months) will be required of the successful candidate(s).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Class “C” driver’s licence and “Z” endorsement. 
  • Must be able to obtain GO Transit Forklift driving certificate.   
  • Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy. 
  • Ability to obtain job related certifications as required. 

 

Available Shifts/Locations: 


12 month contract  - East Gwillimbury Bus Garage  -  19:00-05:00 Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. OFF on Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

Note: This is a unionized position. As such, specific home bases, locations, shifts, shift hours and/or days off are assigned based on seniority and may be changed due to operational needs. They may include weekends, evenings, split shifts & holidays.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintain, inspect, service, test and repairs all systems on locomotives, mobile equipment and vehicles used in plant, yard and road service

  • Make the evaluation of parts for reuse, repair or replacement
  • Work to blueprints, schematic drawings, service manual and other like information. Adapts to new methods, processes, material and equipment
  • Perform non-structural welding, (i.e. Tacking)

  • Perform modification and construct mechanical assemblies

  • Operate equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist in assignments
  • Adapts to new methods, processes, material and equipment

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalence Diploma
  • Must have completed previous apprenticeship and ability to provide proof of apprenticeship
  • Must have 6 years practical or general experience in mentioned apprenticeship applicable to the trade or possess a Unifor Local Journeyman/Journeywomen 101R card 
  • Must Possess one of the following; Journeyman Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanics Certification, Journeyman Automotive Technician Certification, and Journeyman Electrician Certification
  • Strong problem solving and computer skills
  • Must be able to work within strict established safety and work guidelines/rules to complete job
  • Will be required to obtain all CPKC certification pertaining to specific tasks and assignments
  • CPKC operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; must be able to work on various shifts and days off

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Duties

  • Oversees the duties completed by the other technicians by motivating, inspiring and demonstrating excellent work ethics.
  • Allocates the monthly job plans ensuring the completion of all tasks are completed 100%.
  • Manages customer service, using the SRRP and identifies team members for service calls and others for job plans with the objective to improve service satisfaction.

Accountabilities

  • Oversees the proper application and execution of processes and practices to ensure achievement of and adherence to all requirements.
  • Oversees and maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required. Submits all expenditures on a timely basis.
  • Oversees and performs regular facility systems monitoring and inspection, preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure facility uptime objectives are met, uninterrupted client operation and asset integrity of assigned facility are maintained. Provides observations about facility, systems conditions and deficiencies and provides recommendations for enhancement and repair.
  • Oversees and monitors assigned facility by conducting facility walkthroughs, system monitoring and inspection.
  • Oversees and maintains, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and/or electrical building systems and equipment.

Technical Duties

  • Performs daily, weekly and monthly work orders, manages work order life cycle from dispatched through to completion with detailed resolution notes. Responds to client requests and after hour trouble calls on an on-call rotation basis.  Monitors and reports status of facility service contracts and prepares purchase orders to rectify deficiencies. 
  • Maintains inventory. Inputs Pcard purchases on a timely basis.
  • Assists the Project activity in the buildings by completing hot work permits and bypass permits on fire alarms. Escorts when required for project delivery.
  • Provides assistance and support to Facility Managers with respect to the delivery of small-scale tenant service projects, by determining skills required, assisting with selection of contractors, monitoring performance, budget, quality control and assigning work.
  • Interacts with internal and external clients of all levels.
  • Documents activities related to building operations and maintenance, providing input to the Property Manager(s) with respect to building conditions; project planning, budget planning and forecasting.

Other duties as assigned

  • Where applicable manages the LBCMP in the buildings including adjusting maintenance to ward off high legionella counts. Ensures logbook and reporting is accurate and complete.
  • Where applicable Completes maintenance and all required records for Fire alarm and sprinkler/ Cooling systems (chillers, roof top units, AHU)/ Lighting systems/ Halocarbon detection systems and data logging/ Co2 detection systems/ Elevators/ Overhead doors/ Exterior lighting/ Emergency lighting/ Diesel generator/ BAS/ Reports deficiencies on facility equipment.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • College Diploma/Certification 
  • 5 to 10 years of facility operations and maintenance work experience 
  • Previous people leadership experience, preferred
  • Mentoring skills required to support lower level Technician’s development
  • Ability to motivate and help with direction within a team
  • Strong ability to adhere to processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience in the area of roadway inspection
  • Possession of a Class 5 Alberta Vehicle Operator’s License and the ability to qualify for a City driving permit
  • Completion of the following courses from NAIT or equivalent training from an accredited institution would be an asset: Soil Mechanics, Effective Communications I, and Pavement Materials Testing
  • Knowledge of all types of asphalt and concrete repair and restoration methods utilized by the city and how they relate to the City’s Design and Construction Standards

The successful candidate will be responsible for diverse, complex technical work involving a variety of business processes within a municipal land use environment for the 2025 Edmonton Election.

This position specializes in technical geospatial work applying advanced knowledge of computer applications in spatial analyses, creation and distribution of cartographic GIS-based digital and hard copy images for the Edmonton Election, and maintenance of the spatial portion of the Geographic Information Systems Database. Tasks are undertaken with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision and to a high degree of accuracy while multitasking a variety of jobs, handling heavy workloads and meeting strict deadlines.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to be Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Compile geographic and demographic data from multiple sources for statistical planning and incorporation into documents and reports
  • Conduct research to obtain existing datasets
  • Maintain current databases and create new databases as required
  • Create maps, graphics and other related materials for the Edmonton Election using GIS software (ArcGIS Pro), ETL software (FME) and Enterprise Database (AEGIS).  
  • Plan and create detailed routes, location-based maps, and schedule for seniors’ accommodation, hospital, institution, and other voting opportunities as required
  • Consult with internal and external stakeholders to access fieldwork, satellite and aerial imagery, data and maps
  • Prepare detailed City, Ward, and voting subdivision area maps specific to needs of Candidates, Voters, Ward Coordinators, and election workers for candidate canvassing, election planning, and voting station use
  • Validate identified residential addresses in preparation for production of address lists
  • Coordinate with City of Edmonton GIS staff to maintain the GIS Database including routine data entry as required for maintenance of the GIS Database
  • Support other departments with their projects as required
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of a two (2) year diploma in a technology program or equivalent from a recognized institution including coursework in geographic analysis and data management
  • A GIS Degree from a recognized technology institution would be considered an asset
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in work related to the work assignments
  • 1+ year(s) of Elections experience would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems including Cartographic principles.
  • Knowledge of GIS and ETL software
  • Demonstrated ability using Google Apps
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships
  • High level of comfort using Esri: ArcGIS Pro (ModelBuilder, Branch Versioning, File Geodatabases), and FME: form
  • Ability to work well under pressure with imminent deadlines; Good time and work management skills
  • Technical knowledge of GIS , data entry, database maintenance, mathematics, and geometry combined with an understanding of computer plotting supply and operations
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) is required

JOB SUMMARY

Fleet Maintenance & Technical Services is responsible for: scheduled, unscheduled and emergency service; seasonal overhauls; vehicle commissioning/decommissioning; vehicle inspections and certifications; warranty monitoring; shop and specialty tool maintenance/management; maintenance of small equipment and special equipment such as fire, ambulance, ice resurfacing, turf, etc.; repair performance analysis; and Technical Services including specifying, acquiring, leasing and disposing of Municipal Fleet Vehicles.

You are responsible for performing a wide range of duties expected of a Vehicle and Equipment Technician 2, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting diagnostic inspections, performing general mechanical overhaul and repair work, and performing scheduled preventive daily maintenance inspections and repairs on vehicle system and components including, but not limited to, steering, suspension, electrical, ignition, fuel, emission control/exhaust and engine management, hydraulics, and vehicular climate control systems.  

You perform all maintenance and repairs to a wide variety of fleet vehicles systems and components including, but not limited to, vehicles powered by gas, diesel, propane or natural gas, tractors, graders, loaders, dozers, cranes, mowers, heavy vehicles (i.e. garbage trucks, zambonis, ice resurfacing equipment, etc.), and automotive associated equipment including, but not limited to, boilers and compressors.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Truck and Coach Technician 310T apprenticeship program of 6720 hours

Minimum of 2 years of experience within a Municipal Fleet or similar truck and coach environment

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Truck and Coach Technician 310T
Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Motorcycle Technician 310G for specific positions
TSSA Regulated Fuels Safety certificate (natural gas, propane and/or alternate fuel) for specific positions
Current Ontario Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certificate card for specific positions
Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated is an asset

KNOWLEDGE

  • City policies and procedures affecting shop operations
  • Considerable knowledge of the vehicle systems and the standard practices, safety issues, materials, tools, equipment and supplies to carry out maintenance operation

  • Ability make estimates of materials and time required to perform the work 
  • Ability to proceed effectively with emergency work including on the road work with limited resources to provide maximum results and timelines
  • Skill in the use of jacks, hoists, overhead cranes, lift trucks and mobile lifting devices
  • Skill in the use of high-pressure gas and electric welding equipment (Mig. Arc. Bronze, steel, aluminum) to effect repairs as authorised under the technician license
  • Possess analytical skills and be detail oriented
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to work to close tolerances 
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with management, manufacturers and engineers to provide for problem solving and suggest corrections to problems found on specialized vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to provide training and explain instructions and guidelines to others effectively
  • Able to efficiently use, operate and maintain tools, precision measuring instrument, state-of-the-art automotive diagnostic and test equipment to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions

  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated  
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To maintain the track and surrounding areas using moderate physical labour and technology (automated machinery). We use technology as much as possible to eliminate physical stress on the body. Job Details

Responsible for preventative maintenance, pre-inspection maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on the company’s fleet of trailers in accordance with the applicable level of training and apprenticeship.

How You’ll Help

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of trailers according to work orders and in keeping with level of training/apprenticeship (see below)
  • Maintaining safe shop environment (may include snow removal from the roof, de-icing, washing vehicles, sweeping, etc.
  • Pre-apprentice Trailer Technicians provide support to journeypersons and to apprentices under the leadership of a journeyperson in all aspects of the maintenance and repair of trailers, including but not limited to brakes, suspension systems, surelok, tires (including psi), trailer axles, lighting systems, rear walls and doors, frame and support, chassis, lighting, wiring, hydraulics, heating & refrigeration systems.
  • Apprentice Trailer Technicians, under the leadership of a journeyperson, are involved in all aspects of the repair and maintenance of trailers (see above) and may provide general direction and guidance to Pre-Apprentice Technicians. Apprentice Technicians are expected to work more independently and exercise greater judgment through the various stages of the apprenticeship, obtaining final verification of work from a Journeyperson Technician.
  • Journeyperson Technicians independently repair and maintain trailers (see above) and provide general direction, guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians. 
  • Maintenance and repair of trailer bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hub caps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc.
  • Documentation of all findings and work done.
  • Lead Journeyperson Technicians provide work direction for all team members and act as escalation point for complex maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians
  • Work independently to complete diagnostic, service, repair and maintain trailers.
  • Maintain and repair trailer bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hub caps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc.
  • Document and update Service Supervisor/Service Manager on completion time changes, all findings, work done and potential future service requirements.
  • Other duties as may be required.

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Post secondary training in trailer repair and/or completion of trailer technician certificate course
  • Preference given to applicants with Red Seal journeyperson certification
  • Additional training in tire repairs and/or refrigeration will be considered an asset 
  • CVIP, an asset
  • Candidates enrolled in trailer repair apprenticeship may also be considered.
  • Valid Class 1 license also considered an asset
  • Previous work experience in an industrial environment, preferably in the transportation industry
  • Previous experience and qualification to perform Safety inspections are considered an asset in this position, 
  • Ability to obtain CVIP
