Job Description

In this role you will provide desktop support for Information Technology hardware and software, and will provide implementation support for IT projects.

Major Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities as a Technology Analyst 2 will be varied. Specifically, you will:

  • Provide desktop support for Information Technology hardware and software.
  • Respond to enquiries from users regarding Information and Technology problem and service requests.
  • Consult with users concerning hardware/software problems and provide technical assessment, analysis and resolution of problems and issues.
  • Extract information required to diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Install and configure desktop-related hardware and software.
  • Implement City-wide and Divisional hardware and software upgrades and projects.
  • Co-ordinate and/or escalate with internal and external groups, including vendors, on resolution of technical problems.
  • Follow up on problems and keep users informed until the problems are resolved.
  • Participate in team projects and make recommendations to enhance the quality and efficiency of support.
  • Provide inputs to the developments and improvements to current environment, policies and processes.
  • Provide training to clients in use of desktop technology.
  • Prepare documentation to facilitate transfer of knowledge.
  • Provide input for statistics and drafts summary reports.
  • Document solutions to hardware/software problems for users and other IT staff.
  • Collect and maintain asset inventory. Dispose of hardware and software.
  • Perform desktop-related IT tasks in response to issues, client service requests, and operational requirements as assigned.
  • Travel within the City of Toronto as required. Travel to other GTA locations for training and adhoc computer support.

Key Qualifications:

Your application for the role of Technology Analyst 2 should describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-secondary education in a computer-related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or related Tier 2 Desktop Support experience.
  2. Experience in a large, diverse computing and customer support environment providing desktop support.
  3. Experience configuring and troubleshooting technical issues with Windows 10, Novell, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) 2013 and Office 365, various web browsers, Desktop Imaging, and mobile computing devices, such as Tablets, Notebooks, Toughbook's, Smartphones and handheld devices.
  4. Experience and strong working knowledge of the functionality of Active Directory, Enterprise Security Level software

 You must also have: 

  • Ability to prioritize, plan, organize and work independently and cooperatively with others in a team environment.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario class “G” Driver’s Licence and access to a properly insured vehicle.
  • Ability to lift objects (up to 40 lbs).
  • Ability to travel within the City of Toronto as required.
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills.

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related education with at least six years of work experience in data management disciplines including data integration, modeling, & optimization.
  • Strong experience in designing & building data warehousing, data lake, data ingestion, business intelligence, and analytics solutions.
  • Strong experience building data acquisition & ingestion with a variety of patterns and techniques include batch, streaming, replication, API, etc. for structure and unstructured data.
  • Hands on experience working with a variety data structures and formats including relational, star schema, columnar, JSON, Parquet, etc.
  • Hands on experience delivering modern data & analytics platforms & technologies including  Snowflake, Power BI, Informatica, ETL tools.
  • Knowledge and experience building and deploying advanced analytics models using ML Ops.
  • Strong experience with modern data programming languages including SQL, NoSQL, PL/SQL.
  • Familiar with data modeling tools and techniques.
  • Experience developing in modern analytics programming languages include Python, R, Scala, and others.

  • Work experience as a Java developer with a preference for Java 8-17/Spring, web-based information technology principles, and system integration methodologies and standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Initiate, develop, maintain, and coordinate databases related to infrastructure planning, asset management, operations and preservation, traffic safety, material testing, and field inspection.
  • Provide technical analysis and operational support related to infrastructure/facility systems planning, operations, preservation, traffic safety, material testing and field inspection.
  • Operate, inspect, monitor, troubleshoot and maintain sewer, water, transportation and waste processes, equipment, and systems together with performing minor repairs and/or identification of necessary repairs and procedures.
  • Review and comment on documentation, drawings, specifications, plans and applications from engineering consultants and developers to ensure City standards and requirements are met.
  • Supervise and direct staff, consultants, and contractors.
  • Maintain and operate specialized analysis software and be able to interpret results, produce reports/outputs and make recommendations for infrastructure/sewer/water/transportation/waste network/facility planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and management programs, traffic safety analysis, water/wastewater facility operations/engineering and environmental engineering. (Examples include SCADA, WaterCad, EMMEIII, AutoCad, Crystal Reports, Asset Management software, SPL, and MMS)
  • Develop and review standards, specifications, processes, and manuals related to roadway/sewer/water/traffic/waste operations, the development of transportation/utility networks, operation, construction, and maintenance.
  • Research and evaluate the application of new technologies and industry best practices related to infrastructure/facility planning, engineering, design, construction, preservation, traffic safety, asset management and testing services.
  • Provide advanced advice regarding technologies and technical analysis related to infrastructure/plant/facility planning, design, construction, operation, preservation, maintenance, management, testing and performance. New technologies comprise of technical evaluation of engineered material; integration of Global Positioning System/Geographical Information System (GPS/GIS) technology; development/integration of computer applications and information systems to enhance productivity/efficiency; equipment deployment and route modelling; new testing/monitoring equipment for quality control of construction/maintenance operations; maintenance information systems, etc.
  • Represent the department in meetings with department staff, other departments, the public, consultants, contractors, other government agencies, community associations and City Advisory Committees.
  • Tactfully and adequately respond to concerns and inquiries from the public, City Council, and other branches/departments/divisions
