PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of all systems associated with CPKC's Work Equipment group, including mechanical, electrical and hydraulic machinery/equipment.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of all systems associated with Work Equipment (Mechanical, Electrical and Hydraulic)
  • Make Inspections and tests. Repair or replace parts with limited resources in remote locations outdoors
  • Perform welding repairs
  • Investigate and locate equipment problems and take corrective action minimizing the impact on crew production
  • Plan work and co-ordinate it with others
  • Prepare and submit equipment maintenance records, time sheets etc.
  • Obtain certification in CPKC safety rules
  • The work location is outdoors and, therefore, you will be working in all weather conditions (rain, direct sunlight, snow etc.)
  • Will be required to be away from home and will stay in with meal allowance provided

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Journeyman's certificate as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic/Technician OR a Journeyman’s certificate as an Automotive Mechanic/Technician, OR a registered and active 2nd or 3rd year apprentice in Heavy-Duty Mechanics
  • Ability to carefully monitor gauges, instruments, or processes
  • Ability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment
  • Ability to follow instructions; solid written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be able to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks and change focus quickly as demands change

  • Communicates in plain language to educate non-technical staff regarding technical issues.

  • Assists with preparation of reports regarding fleet and equipment efficiencies and conditions.
  • Provides direction and technical support to management and union employees with respect to the diagnosis and repair of Transit Vehicles and their components and systems.
  • Monitors quality assurance of audit systems, processes, and products.
  • Recommends changes to business processes and supporting technology to improve preventative maintenance and warranty programs.
  • Participates in test plan development and review sessions.

  • Researches emerging trends and best practices and maintains currency in transit policy knowledge and all regulatory requirements effecting Commercial vehicles.

  • Escalates complex issues to the manager or designate for resolution.

The Sr. Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Sr. Maintenance Manager. Working closely with other team members, the Maintenance Supervisor strives to maximize facility up time and daily production, while ensuring that all facility equipment is properly maintained through the application of the proper maintenance tactics. Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Manage, motivate, develop and provide direct leadership to maintenance staff;
  • Supervise repairs carried out by maintenance staff and/or Contractors;
  • Evaluate incoming work notifications and, when warranted, generate and prioritize a work order to cover the work;
  • Assist with the implementation of capital projects;
  • Ensure that all maintenance work is captured on work orders and entered into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);

  • Assist with the identification of root causes following equipment failures and development of new maintenance tasks to eliminate them in the future;
  • Ensure compliance with BRC and CFIA requirements as it relates to food safety and ensure that corrective action requests are dealt with in an effective and timely manner;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable provincial and federal labour regulations and adhere to the terms and conditions specified in the appropriate collective bargaining agreements;
  • Demonstrate an active involvement/commitment to a progressive health and safety program and food safety program;
  • Provide temporary backup for the Maintenance Managers and team leads when necessary; and other responsibilities as required.

What You’ll Bring:

  • At home in a manufacturing environment and have 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment;
  • Familiar with the concept of world class maintenance and best practices;
  • Aware of Six Sigma, RCM and autonomous maintenance principles;
  • A College graduate from an electro-mechanical program or a licensed tradesperson with related experience;
  • Conversant in preventive and predictive maintenance tactics;
  • Willing and flexible to work shifts as and when required;
  • Comfortable using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), SAP-PM preferably;
  • Recognized for their ability to troubleshoot and demonstrated organizational skills;
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills;
  • Experience in a food processing or manufacturing environment would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of ammonia-based plant refrigeration systems and their operation;

 Highly desirable but optional qualifications include:

  • Knowledge and experience with HACCP; and

  • Investigates and appears at discoveries and legal proceedings regarding claims against the City.
  • Creates work orders and supporting documentation (i.e. diagrams) for the repair of utility cuts in the road allowance.
  • Liaises with internal departments and external agencies to coordinate restoration of work areas, tracking progress and assessing additional restoration requirements.
  • Conducts condition assessments and preventative maintenance inspections of City road infrastructure and assets to aide in the collection of inventory statistics.
  • Develops data collection programs related to various asset inventories.

  • Monitors, records and communicates weather and road conditions (i.e. snow accumulation, air and pavement temperatures and traffic volume) to assist in the appropriate deployment of winter maintenance activities.
  • Recommends corrective action to be taken by contractors to maintain contractual performance levels of service.
  • Ensures contractor adherence to safety requirements, City policies and procedures.
  • Schedules, trains and evaluates Co-op Students.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • High School (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of over one (1) and up to two (2) years in Civil Engineering Technician or equivalent.
  • Over one (1) year, up to and including two (2) years of related experience.
  • Membership or ability to obtain membership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT).
  • Valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G Drivers Licence.

 The Opportunity:

In a unionized environment, the Maintenance department at Maple Leaf Foods operates with a concept of a team environment to ensure plant efficiencies. As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Maintenance team, the individual will be responsible for maintaining and servicing equipment used in the facility for the daily production of our products. Maple Leaf Foods conducts a comprehensive wage survey each year to ensure our rates are competitive. The ability to work rotating shifts, including afternoon shift (1:00 am end time) and weekends, are part of this role.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Must be able to install, troubleshoot, and repair complex production equipment with minimal supervision
  • Operate production equipment and check performance as required
  • Strong on PM (preventative maintenance) procedures
  • Carry out oral/printed work requests and apply corrective action
  • Perform regular work orders and account for inventory and labor on a computerized maintenance program
  • Be able to read and understand mechanical drawings/schematics
  • Machining and fabricating for equipment repairs and/or upgrades
  • Enhance equipment performance, recommending improvements and implementing
  • Understand and adhere to all plant Food Safety and Health and Safety Polices
  • Ensure all job-related operations are in compliance with GMPs, HACCP, WHMIS and health & safety requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring:

  • Must hold a valid Millwright Journeyperson Certificate
  • Must have Red Seal certification
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset
  • Extensive mechanical knowledge including power transmission, pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Knowledge of conveyors, industrial/stationary engines, pumps/compressor, grinders, welding equipment, electrical/electronic controls, lathes/machining tools, power tools, fans/blowers, hydraulic systems and high-speed packaging equipment
  • Highly motivated – able to work well in a team and alone with minimal supervision
  • Sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Some heavy lifting may be required
  • Basic computer ability coupled with strong communication skills

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for conducting various checks, monitors and tests or raw, in-process and finished products and or processes to verify production of high-quality product, to successfully meet the demands of our customers. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, standardized operating procedures (SOPs), and internal policies established by the Quality Assurance Department.

Salary: 21.20$/h - Saturday Sunday premium rate (+ 1.25$/h) 

Shift on rotation: Monday to Friday Day (6h am - 2h30 pm) - Evening (2h pm - 10h30 pm) - Sunday to Thursday Night (10h pm - 6h30 am)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative testing of beverages, syrups, and raw materials throughout the entire production process.
  • Perform standardized quality samplings and audits during production; organize collected data into electronic logbooks, databases, and report variances and non-conformities to plant management.
  • Understand, monitor and act accordingly to support : ISO-GFSI compliance regulatory requirements, Food Safety and Quality programs as implemented by the company. This individual has the authority and responsibility to stop production should the product be out of specification and or observed food safety or compliance breach.
  • Conduct package quality inspection and quality audit and isolate product that does not meet standards.
  • Standardize and calibrate laboratory equipment, troubleshoot systems, equipment and processes for the department.
  • Pursue excellente; continuously develop technical and personal skills to achieve plant-wide world class manufacturing environment.
  • Supposrt production by utilizing time management is to limit facility downtime and ensure only the highest quality finished good is produced.
  • Analyze syrup beverage and/or water attributes.
  • Audit container rinsers, air blowers, filters, and coders to ensure proper operations.
  • Conduct package quality inspection and quality audits and isolate product that does not meet standards
  • Receive and test CO2 and all raw materials prior to production process.
  • Maintain highest possible house keeping standards to prevent microbial contamination

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • DEC/AEC in quality
  • 1 - 3 years prior production/manufacturing experience OR 2+ years relevant lab technician experience. - Food/beverage industry experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with lab safety and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Readily accepts instruction from management/supervisors and executes effectively.
  • Needs to be reliable and open to a flexible schedule.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and keep records.
  • Strong computer comprehension capabilities including Excel and Word and various quality programs.
  • Familiarity with lab safety and handling of hazardous materials.

Position Summary

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs vehicle servicing functions including fuelling, checking and correcting fluid levels, exterior and interior cleaning and washing, testing of auxiliary equipment and minor maintenance/repairing.
  • Inspects lights, general body condition, tires, wheels and windshield wipers, etc. and reports defects to the shift supervisor.
