KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Subject to legislative licensing requirements and company policy:

  • Provides observations about facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides recommendations for enhancement and repair.
  • Monitors assigned facility by conducting facility walkthroughs, mechanical and electrical equipment and system monitoring and inspection
  • Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical building systems and equipment within the limits of company policy and trade certification and oversees service providers.
  • Responds to routine and on-demand service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance on  facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems  within the limits of company policy and trade certification
  • Manages work order life cycle progressing the work form dispatched through to complete and records resolution data within service maintenance management database.  Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements
  • Receives, tracks, monitors and reports status of maintenance and repair work within service maintenance management database.  Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required.
  • Assists in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) program.  Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documents are maintained.
  • Participates in facility-related projects.
  • Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements.
  • Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required 
  • Submits all expenditures on a timely basis  
  • Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered.

Work Requirements

  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs as they arise.
  • Must strictly adhere to Health and Safety policies and processes including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • 3-5 years of facility operations and maintenance work experience
  • High school diploma plus trades training and certification or licensing
  • Advanced ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance
  • Advanced ability to maintain and repair mechanical and electrical building systems and equipment within the limits of certifications and policies
  • Advanced troubleshooting and resolution skills in order to determine and resolve building mechanical and electrical equipment and system issues
  • Current knowledge of fire, life, safety and building codes and standards and ability to research and apply related codes and standards

How You’ll Help

 

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of trucks according to work orders and in keeping with level of training/apprenticeship (see below).
  • Maintaining safe shop environment (may include snow removal from the roof, de-icing, washing vehicles, sweeping, etc. 
  • Journeyperson Technicians independently repair and maintain trucks (see above) and provide general direction, guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians.     
  • Maintenance and repair of truck bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hubcaps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc. 
  • Documentation of all findings and work done.
  • Lead Journeyperson Technicians provide work direction for all team members and act as escalation point for complex maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians. 
  • Work independently to complete diagnostic, service, repair, and maintain trucks.
  • Maintain and repair truck bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hubcaps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc. 
  • Document and update Service Supervisor/Service Manager on completion time changes, all findings, work done and potential future service requirements.

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Post-secondary training in truck repair and/or completion of truck technician certificate course.
  • Preference given to applicants with Red Seal journeyperson certification.
  • Additional training in tire repairs and/or refrigeration will be considered an asset.
  • CVIP, an asset.
  • Candidates enrolled in trailer repair apprenticeship may also be considered.
  • Valid Class 1 license also considered an asset.
  • Previous work experience in an industrial environment, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Previous experience and qualification to perform Safety inspections is required in this position.
  • Physically fit and able to lift, move, reach, bend, walk, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch for extended period of time.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation industry’s rules and regulations regarding transport trucks, trailers, and components.

KEY DUTIES

Park Maintenance Support

 Assist with Park operations by performing assigned tasks in horticulture, arboriculture, turf, and infrastructure such as:

 

  • Mowing, trimming, weeding, digging, raking, and removing refuse and debris.
  • Preparing, planting, and maintaining flower and shrub beds, landscapes, boulevards, turf, sports fields, and young trees.
  • Constructing and maintaining pathways, hard infrastructure, playgrounds, irrigation, furniture, playground equipment and ponds and streams.
  • Maintaining cemetery grounds and assisting with interments.
  • Grinding stumps, chipping brush and with direct supervision light pruning.
  • Watering of trees, baskets, turf, and various garden landscapes.
  • Maintaining tree wells, tree grates, and tree guards.
  • Flagging and directing traffic around equipment and operations and in public laneways.

Park Equipment Operation

The role performs its assigned functions through the operation of:

  • Various industrial-sized trucks: tanker trucks, aerial lift trucks, truck with trailer, hook lift truck, and leaf vacuum trucks with related equipment.
  • Brush chippers, loaders, and stump grinders.
  • Industrial tractors equipped with turf/horticultural attachments.
  • Small crane operation for loading and unloading materials and equipment.
  • Commercial ride-on mowers to maintain grass in public spaces, requiring proficiency in adjusting and maintaining reel and blade height and in loading and unloading the mower from the trailer.
  • Various light power equipment, such as light rollers, light all-terrain utility vehicles, concrete mixers, and small vibrating tampers.
  • Various small power tools and equipment such as chainsaws, power pole saws, push mowers, rototillers, edgers, blowers, line trimmers, hedge trimmers, sod cutters, grinders, sanders and cut saws.
  • Various hand tools related to park maintenance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participates in strategic and tactical planning required to establish long- and short-term plans for the delivery of maintenance services.
  • Ensures compliance with all related regulatory requirements.
  • Provides leadership and guidance in all technical planning related to the development of maintenance programs and fleet stores.

  • Develops and monitors preventative maintenance and overhaul schedules, for both body shop and mechanical work.
  • Maximizes availability of vehicles to meet operational commitments and optimizes utilization of resources; identifies, analyzes, and recommends potential efficiencies, cost savings, process improvements, and effective communication procedures.
  • Monitor productivity and efficiency and initiate efforts to gain improvements
  • Conducts production meetings to ensure the availability of resources to complete the scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Assigns, prioritizes, and monitors the work of direct reports.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry best practices with respect to fleet maintenance.

Typically, the educational knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are obtained through the successful attainment of a University Degree in Engineering Technology, Management Degree and/or Journeyperson Status in the vehicle repair trades. Comprehensive knowledge of fleet service operations and management, including operational and decision-making processes including design and development of analytical reports, plus five years operations and supervisory experience within a fleet management environment. 

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, Provincial, and City bylaws, policies, procedures, and legislation, including the Highway Traffic Act, Transport Canada Acts and Regulations
     
  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning, organization, and management. Ability to supervise and motivate staff.

Working/Other Conditions

Qualifications

The Light Rail Transit Operations and Maintenance section within ETS is looking for an Electro Vehicle Mechanic to join their team. Come be a part of a forward thinking team, and provide support for Edmontonians transit needs and expectations.

As an Electro Vehicle Mechanic, you are responsible for performing inspections, preventive maintenance, major and light repairs, modifications and overhauls to light rail vehicles. These duties are accomplished by accurately diagnosing, examining, testing, repairing and rebuilding light rail vehicles and components. Work may vary between light repair and heavy overhaul shops within the same facility, and may include related duties such as maintenance of hoists and shop equipment, etc.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to be Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections
  • Repair, overhaul, service, inspect/commission new equipment/attachments, and diagnose the complete range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, structural, and all other failures occurring to light rail vehicles, equipment components, and attachments common to light rail vehicle fleets
  • Recover and/or perform emergency repairs to failed electric transit vehicles on-line
  • Complete changeovers on-line and track test light rail vehicles
  • Carry out modifications to electric transit vehicles
  • Review Branch maintenance information systems, repair manuals, technical bulletins, operating manuals, Corporate, Department and Branch procedural manuals, schematics, material safety data sheets, safety handbooks, and blueprints in order to accurately diagnose, repair, and request parts for the jobs assigned
  • Complete the required administrative procedures and forms to ensure the proper recording and communication of work recommended and/or completed (PM inspection sheets, major repair authorization forms, provincial certification forms and time entries, etc.)
  • Use Fleet Management System Software (SAP) to perform data entry and time entry
  • Greet and assist internal partners in defining and identifying problems and obtaining services offered by the Branch
  • Attend and participate in Branch Safety and information meetings 
  • Attend and participate in health and safety training and is knowledgeable about the chemicals and workplace hazards to which they are exposed 
  • Advise co-workers, forepersons, and management of any health and safety concerns
  • Attends and participates in environmental training, follows approved environmental operating procedures, and advises management of any work-related environmental concerns
  • Performs testing to support failure analysis by maintenance engineering personnel
  • Participates in Branch training programs, section teams, and new equipment orientation

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (or higher or equivalent) 
  • Certified Alberta Journeyperson in the trade of Heavy Duty or Automotive Mechanic supplemented by a certificate of completion of required coursework in electronics and electrical theory
  • Experience working in the fleet maintenance industry with electrically powered vehicles, including diagnosing and correcting difficult, complex, and/or unusual vehicle malfunctions
  • Considerable knowledge of the standards, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic principles
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of a shop environment
