In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of company policies and procedures, employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representative.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 3 years of Security Supervisor experience minimum.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private).
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Post-Secondary education in a related field is an asset.

The CPKC Police Service delivers police services to the CPKC network. Duties include emergency response, special events policing, risk reduction operations, investigation and enforcement of criminal acts, crime prevention and public safety programs. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen

  • Must have completed & passed full basic police recruit training with a recognized police service in Canada
  • Must be a First-class police constable and be in good standing with a recognized Canadian federal, provincial, municipal or First Nations police service. Retired and recent law enforcement experience will be considered as long as it was within the last 24 months You must also have experience and the authority to enforce the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Justice System

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides security services to City owned and/or operated properties through the operation of various security systems and patrolling, including responding and effectively handling emergency and non-emergency, security and law enforcement calls, maintaining the utmost confidentiality at all times
  • Monitors and patrols assigned areas of City owned and/or operated properties and the surrounding grounds through physical patrols and by monitoring various security systems Observes, investigates, and acts on possible breaches of security, criminal code violations, fire and safety hazards, illegal entry, theft, and malfunction or interruption of utilities, machinery or equipment

Key Qualifications:

 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Considerable experience providing facility security including the use of security systems and key systems.
  2. Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function or the approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Security Guard License in accordance with the Ontario Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005, S.O. 2005, c. 34.
  4. Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR level 'C' and be certified to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  5. Strong knowledge of legislative policies such as the Criminal Code, Trespass to Property Act and WHMIS.
  6. Knowledge of relevant Security policies such as patrolling and emergency response, Private Security and Investigative Services Act.
  7. Highly developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including conflict resolution, problem solving, decision making and situational assessment.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to respond to staff and public in a courteous and effective manner.
  9. Ability to prepare and maintain clear, concise, and legible security reports and detailed records.
  10. Demonstrated experience working with a computer and the ability to utilize a variety of software, e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel, mainframe systems, divisional databases, etc.
  11. Ability to compile accurate information and prepare effective reports and correspondence using a computer.
  12. Ability to operate and monitor computerized security equipment.
  13. Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays 
  14. Ability to use various tools and equipment related to the role including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) i.e. baton, ballistic resistive vest, handcuffs, two-way radios, etc.

Incident Investigation, Resolution & Reduction

  • Coordinates the implementation of corrective and preventative measures
  • Assists in the identification and analysis of trends.  Communicates observations and provides suggestions for incident reduction measures

Audit Compliance, Data Maintenance & Reporting

  • Assists in the audit of compliance records and all other environmental, health and safety data
  • Prepares and distributes various environmental, health and safety related reports including but not limited to incident reports
  • Experience with database development, programing and maintenance considered an asset

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Strong background in environmental management system development and administration, with knowledge of environmental regulations and environmental compliance auditing an asset.
  • Certification in one or more of the following – Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety; Certificate in Environmental Management through a Community College; University degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies
  • 1 to 3 years of environmental, health and safety work experience
  • Understanding of environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements

JOB SUMMARY


Transit Operations provides safe, reliable and courteous transit services and excellence in customer service delivery to 100 million transit customers per year, by means of conventional bus, para transit and rail operations. The Transit Special Constable Unit manages the Special Constable and Fare Enforcement Programs, Transit revenue loss and fare enforcement programs, property protection and law enforcement programs, the transit emergency response and preparedness programs, communications equipment/systems, processes and sectional records activities.
 

You are responsible for security and law enforcement duties involving passengers, employees, Transit Services facilities/vehicles/assets and the general public.
 

You execute the duties of a Sworn Special Constable/Peace Officer, agent and occupier of City of Ottawa Transit Services*, in accordance with:

  • Federal/Provincial/Municipal laws
  • Special Constable contract with the Ottawa Police Services Board
  • Rules and regulations governing a Special Constable appointment (as amended from time to time)
  • Corporate/Branch/Division policies and standards
  • Corporate/Branch Code of Ethics, Core Values and Mission Statement, that is consistent and compatible with Ottawa Police Service policies and standards

 

*The Police Services Board grants an Officer’s Special Constable status for Ottawa, with an approval from the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, in accordance with the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must obtain and maintain Special Constable designation

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction. Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.  
  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated  
  • Meet eligibility requirements for appointment as a Special Constable, which are:
    • Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada
    • Lawfully eligible to work in Canada
    • At least 18 years of age
    • Not been convicted of a criminal offence or been convicted of an offence for which a pardon has been granted.
    • Proof of valid Standard First Aid Certificate and valid CPR-Level C
    • Must learn, meet and maintain Transit Special Constable Services standard in the use of oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, baton and the use of force continuum
    • Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Certificate of Results for the Constable Selection System
    • Candidates will be required to undergo physical fitness testing with the Transit Special Constable Recruiters. Candidates will be required to successfully complete the Ontario Police Fitness PIN test.
    • Candidates will also be required to undergo other investigations/checks to include:

      • Driver's licence history
