Main Purpose and Function
The Fleet & Manufacturing Services supports the City of Vancouver in being a service provider in all aspects of Fleet Management. The expertise and knowledge provided to internal and sometimes external clients by the Fleet & Manufacturing Services Branch includes: Engineering, Vehicle Procurement, heavy-duty/Commercial/Automotive Maintenance and Repair, Quick Service Repairs, Machining, Mill Work, Fabrication,Vehicle Outfitting, Carpentry, Body Shop Vehicle Repair and Painting, Product Inventory/Ordering, and Small Equipment Repair. The vehicle fleet includes but is not limited to: Police, Fire, City of Vancouver issued vehicles, Garbage and Recycling trucks. As an Automotive Service Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of this extensive fleet of vehicles and equipment which has a replacement value of $175 million dollars.
This position currently works on a 9-day fortnight schedule. Successful candidates will work on the afternoon shift, from 3:10 pm to 12:34 am, Monday to Friday. Employees may be assigned to work alternative shifts and locations based on operational requirements.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Fleet servicing occurs primarily at the fully equipped Garage at Manitoba Yard or National Yard which houses an employee base of approximately 150 employees from various Trades but also at several satellite facilities. As an Automotive Service Technician, you will work with members of the Fleet & Manufacturing Service team to ensure that quality andtimely work is performed to support and service our clients. A major part of this position will be to inspect, diagnose, conduct routine maintenance work and support the outfitting/up-fitting of new vehicles, including completing approved modification requests. Preference will be given to candidates who have knowledge and experience in; the installation of components, reading and creating electrical schematics, ability to build, design and troubleshoot electrical systems, and any practical experience in building fleet vehicles to meet customer’s needs. The challenge this busy environment offers is in the variety of work, from small and heavy equipment to automobiles and light to heavy trucks, as well as Plant and Facilities maintenance, Manufacturing and Building maintenance.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Automotive Service Technician Certificate of Qualifications (T.Q.), Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement.
- Red Seal certification is preferred.
- Completion of Grade 10, supplemented by technical courses related to the work.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the automotive and mechanical trade.
- Thorough knowledge of braking systems.
- Considerable knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to perform a variety of complex skilled electrical and mechanical tasks in the overhaul, repair, maintenance and adjustment of motorcycles, automotive and marine electrical systems.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions which may be accompanied by sketches and diagrams.
- Ability to interpret manufacturers' instructions and diagrams pertaining to equipment.
- Ability to requisition parts and materials.

In the role of Maintenance Planner/Scheduler working in Chilliwack, BC you will be part of the Maintenance and Engineering team in our Fraser Valley brewery. You will be responsible for contributing to World Class Maintenance Program through utilizing Reliability Centered Maintenance practices to effectively manage maintenance planning and scheduling in the Fraser Valley Brewery while optimizing resources, time and material to execute tasks. This position reports to the Technical Services Manager.
The targeted salary range of this position is $76,000 - $90,000 based on experience. Bonus, 401k matching, and other benefits also included.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Maintenance Team Leaders, to develop complete work plans for corrective, preventive, and predictive work that include safety information, job steps, parts required, special tools needs, and estimated man hours by trade. Shop floor planning of mechanical and electrical maintenance work. This would also include contacting vendors for parts required or contractors for outsourced work. Parts kitting for all planned work prior to scheduling.
- Deliver the weekly work schedule utilizing trade availability, contractors and autonomous maintenance teams to align with production schedules and maintenance windows.
- Maintain a current backlog of work for Trades and Contractors, this would consist of Preventative, Predictive, Statutory and Condition Based tasks.
- Ensure the Planning and Scheduling functionality is maintained within the CMMS system.
- Lead weekly planning & scheduling meetings to align maintenance activities for running and shut-down maintenance with Production teams. Ensure maintenance schedules include work permits, safety and regulatory requirements.
- Work with the teams to provide quality feedback. Utilize this information to make improvements to preventive and predictive maintenance tasks within the CMMS.
- Backfill Maintenance Team Leaders role when required. Assume all duties to provide effective maintenance support for Operations.
- Member of the Progressive Maintenance pillar team. Owner of Daily Management Systems (lubrication and maintenance planning & scheduling) as part of the team. Completion of ‘step up cards’ to check knowledge of pillar deliverables.
Other Qualifications:
- Experience as a licensed Tradesman or a degree in a technical field, ideally mechanical.
- Experience working with vendors, identifying, sourcing machine parts and electrical components. Able to communicate with Team Leaders and Trades to provide required parts and tools.
- Experience as a Maintenance Team Leader is a definite asset.
- Proficient in the use of a CMMS system for Planning & Scheduling. Experience in the use of SAP PM module for Planning & Scheduling would be beneficial.
- A background in a unionized industrial manufacturing environment.
- Both technically strong and people oriented, you demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and you are a strong team player.
- You can work successfully and independently and adapt as necessary in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.

The Level 1 – Maintenance Labourer position, under the supervision and direction of the Maintenance Supervisor assist Millwrights and Maintenance Mechanics in day to day maintenance activities.

Performance Expectations
· Maintain systems to track, report, document and assist with scheduled preventative maintenance.
· Record coolant refractometer readings, top up machine oils, and record usage.
· Manage oil and coolant inventories.
· Housekeeping of storage area for fluids.
· Operate forklift and floor scrubber.
· Maintain equipment in a safe and clean manner.
· Ability to use CMMS (computerized maintenance and manufacturing system).
· Ensure compliance of maintenance instruction sheets and procedures.
· Attend maintenance daily meeting.
· Measure various physical properties using common measuring tools such as rulers, tapes, thermometers and scales.
· Evaluate condition of parts and equipment.
· Assess the safety of work environments.
Credentials
· High School Diploma or equivalent general education.
· Minimum one year experience in manufacturing.
· Able to observe warning signs, such as scan phrases and icons on caution and warning signs to identify hazards in work areas.
· Use computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining, such as AutoCAD.
Desired Characteristics
· Perform tasks independently under direct supervision.
· Able to work in a team setting when necessary to install and overhaul larger pieces of equipment and complete industrial systems.
· Maintain continuous learning by reading manuals and bulletins.
