Major Responsibilities:

  • Research, analyze and report on water meter specifications and standards.(i.e., residential, multi-unit residential, & Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) standards).
  • Update water meter records in the Water Billing System (WMACS).
  • Enter, maintain, and update tracking of Aclara programming software and programming operations.
  • Work with technical data and transcripts to relay information to both internal and external customers.
  • Review technician commentary and work performed for completed and open service calls attended by a technician.
  • Assemble water meters according to size.
  • Perform off-reads and diagnose damaged meters to prepare for warranty.
  • Change register heads for the different types of meters in accordance with technical standards.
  • Search, evaluate and analyze records, notes, and plans in response to inquiries and project needs.
  • Enter, maintain, and update tracking of as built/record drawings and water meters.
  • Extract, summarize and analyze water billing data and information as required.
  • Check peer's completed work for data accuracy as assigned.
  • Perform general office work as assigned.

 

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Graduate in Civil, Chemical, Environmental or Earth Sciences Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  2. Knowledge of Toronto water applications such as Aclara, WMACS, Hansen, Laserfiche, iView Toronto Water Asset Geodatabase (TWAG).
  3. Familiar with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  4. Knowledge of municipal installation and specifications and standards. 
  5. Experience preparing data files maps and summaries and in generating graphical summaries.
  6. Experience, either practical or theoretical, working with Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection Networks.
  7. Ability to travel to various work locations in a timely and efficient manner.
  8. Knowledge in civil/municipal engineering, design and construction of water meters, water mains, and stormwater metering.
  9. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, documents and technical drawings.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with project teams and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  11. Ability to perform manual and computerized mathematical calculations in an engineering environment.
  12. Ability to multi-task, learn and work under pressure. 

 

 

You must also have:

  • Knowledge in the sampling of ground water, surface water, industrial, commercial and institutional.
  • Knowledge of groundwater and industrial wastewater generation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and documents (e.g. plans and profiles, sewer drawings, specifications etc.).
  • Understanding of the principles and application of environmental monitoring theories, methods and practices.
  • Familiar with Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 681, Sewers.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations, statutes, standards and practices (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Environment Acts).
  • Basic analytical skills with the ability to perform manual and computerized mathematical calculations in an engineering environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with consultants, contractors, colleagues, and other City employees at all levels and members of the public.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plans, designs, schedules, and manages engineering work related to operation and maintenance of the City’s municipal infrastructure, including preparation of yearly operating budget projections for area.

  • Investigates, evaluates and recommends acceptance of new or alternate technologies. Research and develop operational policies and is responsible for coordinating and monitoring these policies. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

•    A degree in engineering and registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) OR registered as an engineering licensee with appropriate scope of practice with APEGS. 
•    Four to six years’ progressively responsible professional engineering experience in a municipal or similar environment 
•    Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of municipal engineering.  
•    Thorough knowledge of quality assurance and quality control practices.
•    Considerable knowledge of the corporate safety policy, collective agreements, letters of understanding, Provincial occupational health and safety regulations, legislation and applicable bylaws, engineering standards and specifications. 
•    Knowledge of asset management principles.
•    Ability to identify, analyse and resolve problems with minimal supervision. 
•    Ability to use various software packages such as databases and custom software packages.

Key qualifications:

  1. Graduate in Civil Engineering Technology Program or approved equivalent combination of demonstrated education and experience.
  2. Extensive experience in municipal government related fields of municipal water distribution, wastewater collection and stormwater management infrastructure, maintenance and operation, design, contract administration and/or construction.
  3. Extensive working experience with computer application software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.) or equivalent and in the operation of CADD (e.g., Microstation) TWAG, DCAD and GIS (e.g. ArcView) software.

Key Qualifications:

  2. Experience in the field of wastewater treatment or comparable water industry experience as it pertains to the application of Engineering principles and practices related to the design, construction, operation and maintenance of treatment facilities.

  3. Experience recognizing, diagnosing, and investigating process problems and taking corrective measures to ensure effective and efficient operations and compliance with the applicable regulations.

  4. Possession of a valid Ontario "G" Class Driver's License and the use of a personal vehicle for site visits.

What are your skills and experience?

  • Ability to design functional small Plastic Injection molding parts and assemblies.  Understanding of Tool Die methods.
  • Highly skilled in SOLIDWORKS and/or CREO/Pro-Engineer.   Freeform experience and Rhino3D experience is an asset.
  • Solid understanding of rapid prototyping methods and 3D printing.
  • Ability to start from design illustrations/specifications/briefs along with 2D isometric views to create 3D proof-of-concept CAD assembly drawings.
  • Experience working with creative professionals (industrial designers and artist) both within and outside the company.
  • Ability to travel internationally and within North America if necessary

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

The City of Edmonton's Climate Strategy & Planning Unit is looking for an Environmental Engineer who is passionate about adapting our city to the impacts of climate change and leadership in climate solutions. The successful individual will manage and support projects, initiatives and programs that directly support goals and actions contained in the City’s Climate Adaptation Strategy. The successful individual will help in developing the City’s climate resilience standards, regulations and performance criteria and assist with internal and external stakeholder engagement. The individual will also undertake and synthesize research to support project teams in understanding changing climate risks and related adaptation needs. The Environmental Engineer position is significant as the individual will be a Subject Matter Expert who provides technical advice for adapting to climate change impacts.

  • Support the development and implementation of strategies and projects aimed at achieving goals and objectives contained in the City's Climate Adaptation Strategy

  • Draft and authenticate technical engineering documents and reports as per APEGA guidance

  • Research and understand emerging issues, environmental standards, processes, technologies and trends in climate change adaptation, energy transition, and environment that may impact the City and community and will impact the scope of projects/programs/initiatives
  • Analysis of climate and environmental initiatives and programs in other municipalities and organizations to identify 'best practices' that could be applicable to Edmonton
  • Serve as a technical resource on resiliency and climate change adaptation to support City policy positions to other areas of the Corporation, internal committees, working teams and City Council
  • Prepare technical memos, policy briefs, presentations, and feedback on climate reports
  • Monitor, measure and report corporate and community environmental and resiliency performance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, or related Engineering field
  • Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing and registered with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant and technical engineering experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Climate adaptation (including expertise in climate risk/vulnerability assessments and other tools, and integrating adaptation initiatives)
    • Climate mitigation (including renewable energy and greenhouse gas assessment and policy tools)
  • Training in climate change would be considered an asset
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills and the ability to analyze, explain and evaluate highly complex technical information and policy issues, 
  • Knowledge of climate change mitigation, adaptation and environmental risk assessment processes
  • Logical approach to solving problems based on information from multiple perspectives
  • Must be able to prioritize and carry out multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Skill in building relationships with diverse stakeholders and excellent interpersonal skills
