Motor Vehicle Technician Temporary Job

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate must be able to perform various mechanical, electrical and diagnotic repairs on our diverse fleet of City vehicles and equipment. The City hires Apprentices who will be paid a percentage of the rate paid to Service Technician/Welders depending on level of Apprenticeship.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The successful applicant must be able to perform a variety of preventative maintenance and diversified repairs on the corporate fleet.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to the corporate fleet as set forth by the policy of the Fleet Maintenance Section.
  • Complete work assigned on work orders in a timely manner with mandatory consultation with the Supervisor on all items of concern.
  • Competently read electrical schematics and use computers to diagnose electrical and electronic system faults.
  • Work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be skilled in the use of all tools and equipment related to the trade.
  • Must provide all necessary hand tools to perform required fleet repairs.
  • Must stay current with new technologies and equipment to perform repairs
  • The successful applicant will be placed on a call-out list and must be willing and available to return to work after normal working hours if called upon.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education along with valid Certificates of Qualification as a Truck & Coach Technician(310T), and Automotive Service Technician (310S) trade licenses from the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
  • Technicians holding both 310T and 310S licenses will be remunerated as a Service Technician/Welder as per the collective agreement.
  • Technicians holding a 310T will be considered as an Apprentice and remunerated as an Apprentice as per the collective agreement until the 310S is attained.
  • Technicians holding a 310S will be considered as an Apprentice and remunerated as an Apprentice as per the collective agreement until the 310T is attained.
  • Five (5) years experience actively pursuing the trade as a Licensed Mechanic with four (4) years experience working in a repair facility performing fleet maintenance on a wide variety of diversified off road equipment, light, medium and heavy duty commercial licensed vehicles.
  • Additional courses in the mechanic's trade will be an asset.
  • Experience in gas and electric (Arc and Mig) welding.
  • Familiarity with computerized work orders and time logging.
  • Must be able to read electrical schematics and have experience in the use of computers to diagnose electrical and electronic system faults.
  • Must be able to work on the corporate fleet under inclement weather conditions from time to time.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, WHMIS and hazardous goods, and the Ministry of Transportation Highway Traffic Act.
  • Natural Gas certificate ICE-NG is an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive and inspect inbound product according to the established SOPs.

  • Put away product in correct location based on SOPs.

  • Receive returns, count and confirm quantities, determine condition and complete paperwork (e.g., separate invoices and match to bills).

  • Obtain orders, prioritize if necessary, and select products from the proper locations.

  • Obtain and properly match up reprinted orders.

  • Verify accuracy of orders picked, including product name and size, product code, lot number, expiration date, and quantity.  Escalate concerns to Lead or Supervisor.

  • Stage and coordinate outbound shipments.

  • Safely operate various power equipment including, but not limited to, pallet movers, forklifts, reach trucks, and order pickers.

  • Use RF Scanners to electronically scan barcodes.

  • Enter inventory into warehouse management system, verify information accuracy, and perform scheduled processes (e.g., billing, reports, issue sheets) according to SOPs.

  • Conduct physical inventory or cycle counts daily, weekly and/or monthly based on SOPs.

  • Develop physical inventory plan, monitor physical inventories, identify all OS&D (over stock/shortages/damages), and report or correct any errors or discrepancies.

  • Quickly respond (via email or phone) to customer/client inquiries, resolve problems, and communicate service issues to Supervisor.

  • Compile daily and monthly client reports per SOP, including customer KPI reports.

  • Encourage safe work practices in others, point out areas where safety training and enforcement is needed, and participate on Comprehensive Health & Safety Program (CHSP) committee.

  • Ensure all equipment is in proper working order (e.g., counter balance/doors/docks/signal lights).

Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified as referenced in Division C Section 3.1.4. of the Ontario Building Code; or alternatively, eligible for appointment as an Intern Inspector
  • Qualify and maintain qualifications as referenced in Division C Section 3.1.4. of the Ontario Building Code, and attend appropriate courses/seminars to keep knowledge current
  • If appointed as an Intern Inspector, successful completion of Ontario Building Code qualification exams in ‘General Legal Process’, ‘HVAC House’ and ‘Building Services’ within six (6) months from date of hire, and ‘Plumbing House’ and ‘Plumbing All Buildings’ within eighteen (18) months from date of hire is required
  • Must be proficient in the reading and interpretation of drawings, specifications and other technical documents
  • Must have strong communication and customer service skills, and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle is essential

Job Details

The Warehouse Associate based in Mississauga is responsible for completing the order process while working in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Putting away counter and warehouse stock.
  • Picking, receiving and shipping duties when required.
  • Confirming stock availability and suggesting alternatives.
  • Directly servicing the customer via phone & counter sales.
  • Processing orders, inquiries & quotations.
  • Maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Participate in regular cycle counts and annual inventory.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to established Health & Safety procedures and practices.

Qualifications:

  • Previous warehouse and counter sales experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal & written and an ability to impart knowledge.
  • Product knowledge of the electrical business.
  • Excellent organizational & problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum 1 year accident free AZ licensed driving experience.

  • Must provide recent CVOR and clean drivers abstract.

  • Ability to drive Manual Transmissions is strongly preferred.

  • Able to operate 53-foot quad axle trailers. 

  • Experience with B Trains is an asset. 

  • Capable of operating 13 speed Manual Transmission and capable of maintain legal driver’s Electronic Log (Geotab).

  • Familiar with Ontario geography. 

  • Experience with heavy haul applications and material handling equipment and excellent customer service skills.

 

Piece Work: Paid for what you do:
- The KM
- Hook/Unhook Trailer (Drop)
- Deliveries
- Additional $1.28/Hr for Every Hour Worked based on the KPI.
- Delay Time at Hourly Rate

 

 

SHIFT: Work weeks – Mon-Fri / Sun-Thu / Tue-Sat / Wed-Sun
As a new employee, you will start on afternoons (Start time between 2PM-4PM) for at least 6 months.

 

Job qualifications:

  • Engage in physical activities and manual labor as requested, including but not limited to : prolonged standing, walking, lifting pushing, twisting, pulling and bending.
  • Lift object up to 80 lbs.
  • Climb a ladder/stairs.
  • Work on slippery floor.
  • Lift object higher than the shoulders.
  • Operate a motorized equipment.
  • Exposure to vibration
  • Ability to wear all PPE as required: including safety shoes, glasses, bump cap, hearing protection (jewelry must be taken off)
  • Able to work shift work (Day, afternoons, and midnights)
