Responsibilities

  1. Delivery of learn to swim program
  • Develop progressive lesson plans based on criteria specific to each level of the learn to swim program
  • Demonstrate, instruct and lead participants through swim level specific skills
  • Assess, evaluate and document participants progress throughout the program
  • Provide verbal and written feedback on participants progress to parents/guardians
  • Prepare and organize program equipment and supplies
  • Perform safety check of equipment prior to being used
  • Keep accurate participant attendance records
  • Follow up with full-time staff regarding participants with extended absences
  1. Ensuring public safety
  • Enforcing policies and procedures of aquatics facility
  • Monitor participants in pool, identifying risks/hazards and associate good judgement
  • Educate the public on water safety with a focus on accident prevention
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide first aid within the scope of training
  1. Directly supervising the pool area
  • Continuous scanning of the pool and surrounding area including the deck, hot tub and sauna and adjust zones as required
  • Enforce policies and procedures of aquatics facility
  • Monitor participants in pool, identifying risks/hazards and associate good judgement
  • Educate the public on water safety with a focus on accident prevention
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide first aid within the scope of training
  1. Enforce and follow City of Oshawa policies and procedures and adhere to Ontario Public Pool Regulations, including but not limited to: admission requirement standards, emergency procedures, etc.)
  2. In the absence of Aquatic Supervisor, perform pool opening and closing procedures and complete required checklists

Requirements:

Possess and maintain current ALL of the following aquatic awards (note, applicants who are currently registered in the courses below may apply, offer of employment would be subject to successful completion of the awards.

  • National Lifeguard Certification (NL)
  • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C within 2 years of certification date (from a WSIB approved agency)
  • Work a minimum of 6 hours per week, 4 of which are instructional hours, and at least one weekend shift per week. All hours are subject to program and operational demands. Priority will be given to those candidates with the most availability.
  • Attend all mandatory training's and meetings,
  • Good customer service experience and communication skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
  • Possess personal qualities of maturity, tact, discretion and have a willing and co-operative attitude
  • Ability to work shifts as required
  • Provide a current (within six months) Criminal Information Request prior to commencing employment
  • Preference will be given to those with additional aquatic qualifications

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to operate and successful completion of written tests on all relevant units listed under Type “A”, Type “B”, Type “C” and Type “D” units of equipment (CUPE Local #250 Collective Agreement, Appendix B)
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence (Minimum Class “DZ”) in good standing and be able to pass the Corporation’s tests for motor vehicle operation
  • Physically fit and able to climb, lift and move heavy items (80 lbs/approx. 36 kgs). Capable of performing the work assigned in a safe manner.
    Working knowledge of and ability to apply relevant safety policies, standards and legislation (Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act)
  • Good communication skills and ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, which deal with standardized situations like underground utility locates and engineering drawings. Able to complete forms and records relevant to the job
  • Good interpersonal skills; common sense and courtesy to deal with the general public and to discuss routine information with colleagues. Neat in work habits which broadens out to the appearance of the worksite, trenches and excavations

  • Manage, prioritize and plan project delivery for all rehabilitation projects or redevelopment projects, including, improvements to windows, walls, doors, roof replacement, roof repairs, technology painting projects, playgrounds, trails and splash pads etc. for City facilities;

  • Approve invoices, progress draws, changes to the contract, process change orders, ensuring specifications are met and warranty and commissioning processes are followed;
  • Provide technical expertise on cross-departmental capital projects and planning strategies;
  • Review and provide comments and recommendations on Site Plan applications and technical assessments as they relate to City owned parks and facilities.
  • Coordinate construction projects through ongoing field inspections, risk assessment, ensuring contract compliance, quality control, and adherence to health and safety standards; and
  • Act as a staff liaison to Advisory Committees as needed.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills normally associated with the completion of a three year (3) College Diploma in the fields of Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Engineering along with seven (7) years of project management/coordination experience preferably in a municipal environment.
  • Registered Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute (PMI) is an asset.
  • Established skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Office and experience using relevant software applications (i.e. AutoCAD, Adobe including Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and/or engineering design and construction.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety, codes, and legislative requirements.
  • Experience in preparation of financial and technical reports.
  • Excellent project coordination, strong organizational, research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, elected officials, external agencies, and the public.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and on own initiative in order to meet rigid timelines.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid unrestricted Class ‘G’ Ontario Drivers’ License and ability to provide own transportation between work sites as required.
