The Industrial Engineering team at Maple Leaf Foods supports all of Maple Leaf’s manufacturing facilities across North America. The Industrial Engineering team works alongside factory leadership and the corporate head office, located in Mississauga Ontario, to lead disciplined decision making, direction setting, and identification of opportunities to maximize efficiencies across the manufacturing network.
We are seeking for an experienced IE specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing labour standards and tracking labour performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, as well as working on exciting opportunities to support medium / long-term strategic initiatives within Maple Leaf Foods. You will be partnered with a variety of stakeholders across an expansive cross-functional team (including marketing, R&D, operations, finance, etc…) to develop comprehensive and sustainable plans to meet the company’s objectives, goals, strategies, and measures. Success will be measured in the direct & indirect contributions the team has made in a challenging zero-based budget environment.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
- Establishment of Labour Standards – Measure, document, track, and update standards to ensure the correct costing of labour, packaging, and raw materials at our production facilities
- Master Capacity Planning – Lead the planning and management of MLF’s manufacturing capacities with the Supply Chain and the Commercial teams
- Product Development – Provide manufacturing insight (cost, capacity, capability) on product development / innovation opportunities for all business units
- Process Optimization – Line balancing, labour optimization, line debottlenecking, and waste elimination using IE tools like time studies, job analysis, and simulations
- Strategic Initiatives – Provide objective and analytical guidance to support the organization’s sustainable growth
- Other duties as required
What You’ll Bring:
- Industrial Engineering (or equivalent) degree at a recognized post-secondary institution
- Professional Engineering Designation (or eligibility)
- 3 to 5+ years of relevant industrial experience (CPG, Food & Beverage, or high-speed manufacturing preferred), fundamental understanding of manufacturing required
- Practical experience with Industrial Engineering tools such as Labour Standards, Methods Analysis, Time Studies, and Line Balancing
- Knowledge of Sales & Operational Planning, Capacity Planning, Economical Order Quantity strategies
- Organized and capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data management
- Experience with dynamic modelling and simulation attitude
- Technical curiosity and a questioning attitude
- Developed communication & interpersonal skills
- Continuous Improvement mindset
- Experience with SAP and SAP IBP an asset
- Knowledge of Microsoft Power BI an asset
- Project management experience and/or certification an asset

- Knowledge of vehicle repairs and evolving technologies including new Electric Vehicles (EV) would be considered an asset.
- Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence and must meet corporate standard for a good driving record. A Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 months) will be required of the successful candidate(s).
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Class “C” driver’s licence and “Z” endorsement.

- Assist in the administration of SAI360 (safety software).
- Provide guidance and review of site incidents in developing supervisor’s skills in investigating and preparing detailed reports with strong corrective actions.
- Audit the facilities for legislative and corporate compliance and associated conditions to ensure that training and preventative measures are addressing areas of opportunity.
- Partner with local agencies to develop strong relationships while developing a knowledge base within the dairy/food industry.
You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:
- A degree/diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent work experience. Registered as Canadian registered safety professional (CRSP) is preferred.
- 2-3 years of Health and Safety experience in a medium to large organization.
- Possess a thorough understanding of Human and Organizational Performance, CSA standards and Ontario provincial regulations.
- Ability to travel to Ontario sites and work all shifts as required.
- Recognized leadership and autonomy, excellent communication, planning and work organization skills.
- Team oriented and strong ability to engage people.
- Proficiency reporting in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint with the ability to learn other online systems
- Bilingual, French and English, an asset.

How you will make contributions that matter:

Wet Packaging – Worker is in direct contact with processed, unpackaged dairy products, and are required to supply the line with the product, placing it into the packaging material, and ensuring product is properly sealed before moving it through to Dry Packaging. Four (4) to seven (7) workers may occupy this position on a production line, and will rotate through the tasks every 30 minutes.

Dry Packaging – Worker is in direct contact with packaged dairy products, and are required to ensure labels and product dates are applied correctly, as well as boxing and palletizing the finished goods for the Warehouse. Two (2) to three (3) workers may occupy this position on a production line, and will rotate through the tasks every 30 minutes.
General Responsibilities

Attend scheduled shift punctually and ready to fulfill all duties required.

Meet daily performance targets stipulated by the Production Supervisors, Production Lead Hand, and/or Line Operator.

Participate in job rotation, as required.

Assist in setup, changeovers, and tear down of machinery and equipment.

Participate in daily mandatory stretching program before start of shift, and as required.

Report, immediately, any/all food safety and quality issues, and health and safety concerns/infractions to the Line Operator, Production Lead Hand, and/or Production Supervisor.

Complete all required documentation accurately and timely.

Complete daily sanitation duties.
