Main Purpose and Function
The Communication Manager – Media & Issues is responsible for delivery of corporate media relations and event support, issues management,oversight of the City’s social media channels and external communication planning for key files.
The Manager leads in the development and implementation of proactive communication programs and strategies from both a corporate and client group perspective. They provide leadership and direction to a team of communications staff to meet emerging needs and support the delivery of the City’s strategic priorities. This position requires a proactive and strategic approach to respond to new developments and demands as they evolve.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Develops, builds and maintains excellent working relationships with the team and across the organization, and maintains an ongoing understanding of the various internal clients and stakeholders.

A strategic partner to the assigned business units and leads the development of communications strategies addressing complex and varied organizational projects, priorities and issues.

Ensures that team members understand the departments/organization’s priorities and goals and how their roles link to these priorities and goals.

Provides leadership, direction and supervision in the development and execution of communications strategies, and uses data to drive decision-making and inform strategic insights.

Manages budgets and processes to successfully execute initiatives in a timely manner.

Provides positive leadership and inspires, motivates and guides staff through coaching and ongoing two-way information sharing to discuss policies and administrative issues to solve problems and manage stakeholder relationships.

Manages cross-functional teams to execute the communications strategies and plans for the City’s major initiatives including the development of tools and tactics.

Proactively identifies emerging issues and opportunities, and recommends appropriate communications approaches.

Responsible for the development, handling and distribution of sensitive information to senior management in a timely manner.

Fosters trust and credibility through clear, accurate, open, timely two-way communication with external audiences.

Guides the team in delivering cross-corporate media events, overseeing event planning and management.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related discipline is preferred. Minimum 8 years of experience in progressively senior communications roles including 5 years experience managing employees, project teams and contractors, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Main Purpose and Function
Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, Parks & Recreation, the Financial Analyst 2 is responsible for financial planning and analysis for the City of Vancouver. Strategic Financial Analysis:

- Manages and prepares monthly, quarterly, and year-end variances analysis, forecasting and reporting; presents and reviews results with general manager and department leads; works to identify significant risks, and recommends mitigation strategies and raises to appropriate stakeholders.
- Provides financial and budget management to support major project leads.
- Manages and supports the development of multiyear financial and business plans and forecasts, review and validate financial assumptions and models, and identify trends that impact the Department’s ability to meet budget and service delivery targets.
- Leads and manages analysis of budgets, performance indicators, business plans and ongoing financial results to enable strategic recommendations on corrective actions.
- Interpret and provide forecasts and analysis that link to business unit strategy and operational performance.

Project Management and Process improvement:

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related discipline
- Professional Accounting Designation or MBA with a combination of experience and education related to the requirements of the position
- Extensive experiance post designation experience in budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, reporting, and accounting
- Advanced financial systems experience preferably within an ERP environment - experience with financial modules of SAP would be an asset
- Strong business case analysis experience
- Good working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles as they relate to local government including PSAB

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Acts as an expert technical resource for development of data analytical products including dataflows, semantic models, reports, and dashboards that connect to disparate data sources including on-premise and cloud warehouses, information systems and API endpoints
- Analyzes highly complex business requirements and suggests solutions that will meet the functional and non-functional requirements including cost, security, and impact on existing investments
- Establishes, documents, shares, and monitors best practices for enterprise and self-service analytics that include the use of source control systems, automated deployment pipelines, templates, content certification, resource organization and governance.
- Plans and provides cost and effort estimates for analytical solutions

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Main Purpose & Function
Fleet and Manufacturing Services (FMS) support the City of Vancouver in being a service provider in all aspects of Fleet Management. The expertise and knowledge provided to internal and sometimes external clients by the Fleet and Manufacturing Services (FMS) includes: Engineering, Vehicle Procurement, Heavy Duty/Commercial/Automotive Maintenance and Repair, Quick Service Repairs, Machining, Mill Work, Fabrication,Vehicle Outfitting, Carpentry, Body Shop Vehicle Repair and Painting, Product Inventory/Ordering, and Small Equipment Repair.
The Journeyperson Metal Fabricator will work with members of the Fleet and Manufacturing Services team to ensure that quality and timely work is performed to support and service our clients. The challenge this busy environment offers is in the variety of work, from small and heavy equipment, to automobiles and light to heavy trucks, as well as Plant and Facilities maintenance, Manufacturing and Building maintenance.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Journeyperson Metal Fabricator will perform a variety of skilled shop and field work at the journeyperson level which includes: welding, fitting, brazing, heating, cutting and laying out tasks while you are repairing and maintaining City equipment, structures and buildings.
There is advanced work in tempering, cutting, straightening, bending, shaping and drawing out machinery part and tools. Duties will also include performing skilled welding, heating, cutting and tapping tasks utilizing steel, cast ironand other ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Job functions will be performed in accordance with established trade practices. You may supervise the work of subordinates performing less complex related tasks. Some duties may be more complex and difficult requiring the use of independent judgement in determining methods and procedures in solving unusual problems related to complex fitting, fabrication, welding, layout and design of tasks. Assignments will be both written and verbal, and may be accompanied by sketches or blueprints.
The regular work schedule is from 3:10 PM to 12:34 AM, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate may be required to adjust shifts and locations as operationally required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Completion of grade 10 supplemented by technical courses related to the work with considerable Journeyperson experience.
- Metal Fabrication Certificate of Qualification (T.Q.), Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement or Certification of Apprenticeship.
- Red Seal certification is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, materials and equipment used in the steel fabrication trade.
- Thorough knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment in finishing and fitting a variety of metal parts and objects in the maintenance, overhaul and repair of construction and maintenance equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to weld aluminum cast iron and steel, layout and make patterns.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions which may be accompanied by sketches and diagrams.
- A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with members of the public, suppliers,and internal clients.
- Agility, muscular coordination and sufficient strength to permit the performance of heavy manual labour.
Driver’s License and Record Checks:
- A current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher and a Satisfactory National Safety Code driving record
- 5 years accumulation of no more than 9 points, not in excess of 3 points per single year
- 3 years accumulation of no more than 1 preventable work related driving or equipment operating accident in any single year

- Receives tickets, cash, cheques and credit card payments, makes change for patrons.
- Processing ticket sales, scanning online tickets for entry, exchanging tickets online and looking up ticket purchases using Showpass, our online ticketing provider
- Enters information into Active Net, and utilizes POS.
- Sells and renews memberships, maintains minor clerical records; compiles non- complex statistical data; performs incidental routine word processing tasks as required.
- Tallies and balances cash, records sales and admissions and secures cash drawer daily and completes weekly cash deposits.
- Assists and orients auxiliary staff as required.
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education and Experience:
Completion of Grade 11, supplemented by some experience in dealing with the public and some cashier experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of the garden and conservatory and the products and services provided and of the practices, regulations and procedures applicable to the work.
- Some knowledge of cashiering methods and practices.
- Working knowledge of office equipment and procedures including a computer terminal and related office application software, such as MS Office software programs – Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Sound knowledge of recreation software, including POS, and Photo ID.
- Good numerical skills
- Ability to receive payments, make change, issue tickets, receipts and reimbursements, balance cash and prepare cash reports and floats.
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and effective manner
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy; attention to detail;
- Ability to assist and orient other staff
- Ability to work effectively as a part of a facility staff team
- Ability to maintain minor clerical records, to compile non-complex statistical data and to perform incidental word processing tasks related to the work.

Main Purpose and Function
The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is accepting applications from qualified individuals to be added to the eligibility list for Fitness Centre Workers to join our auxiliary team. This role will provide qualified candidates an opportunity to work in and across a diverse portfolio of facilities and spaces in the City, including several 2010 Olympic venues. Qualified candidates will be assessed on the basis of their skills, knowledge and abilities, and may be selected to participate in a mandatory practical assessment should they meet qualifications and requirements of the position and a vacant opportunity exists. The Fitness Centre Worker is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Park Board fitness centres. This position assists and guides patrons in the use of exercise equipment, ensures the safety and control of the fitness area and patrons, provides fitness assessments, and develops individual weight training and fitness programs.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing patrons on equipment and enforcing rules of conduct and fitness centre policies. The Fitness Centre Worker will also demonstrate exercises and the proper use of equipment to individuals and groups. The Fitness Centre Worker is also responsible for cleaning and maintaining the fitness centre and its equipment, making minor adjustments and repairs as needed. The Fitness Centre Worker will treat minor injuries and make necessary arrangements for the treatment of more serious accidents and provide accident reports to a superior as required. All applicants must also attach their First Aid and any other relevant certifications to their application.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 10
- Completion of a physical education course through a recognized educational institution is preferred.
- Considerable experience in the use of Fitness Centre equipment and some experience interacting with the public is desirable.
- Current Standard First Aid Certificate is required
- Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate is required.
- BC Recreation & Parks Association Registered Weight Training Instructor or equivalent required, Personal Trainer preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the methods used in proper exercise programs and the use of exercise equipment.
- Knowledge of the theory of movement, body mechanics and the prevention and management of sports injuries.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct individual and small group exercises.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct a complete exercise package and to develop tailored weight training and fitness programs.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public and maintain control and exercise discipline with tact and consistency.
- Ability to answer general and specific questions related to physical fitness and exercise.
- Ability to orient patrons in the use of fitness centre facilities and equipment.
- Ability to assume responsibility for the overall operation and security of the fitness centre in the absence of full time staff.
- Ability to maintain general records of fitness centre usage.
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment to deal with emergencies.
- Ability to perform artificial respiration or cardiopulmonary resuscitation as appropriate in case of emergency and provide other first aid treatment as needed.
A Police Record Check is a requirement of the position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.
Candidates must be able to work a combination of early morning (5:45 – 9:45am), evening (6:15 – 11:5pm), and weekend shifts.
