This position performs the coupling and uncoupling of tractor trailers. This position moves and maneuvers tractor trailer equipment into position for the tractor trailer and package handling operations. This position may include other work as directed.
Responsibilities:
Prepares work zone with suitable equipment in accordance with current guidelines.
Assists with organizing specified set-up.
Unloads incoming packages manually or using a machine.
Checks the quantity and condition of delivery units.
Scans packages using the correct equipment.
Sorts packages according to the defined processes (UPS department, destination, etc.) then stores them in the areas provided according to categories.
Fills out documentation or records and validates information on the appropriate media.
Repositions vehicles according to the established dock plan.
Cleans work environment during or after operations.
Reports any malfunctions to the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Reporting to the Mate, Deckhands are responsible for:  

 

  • Directing vehicle and foot passenger traffic on the vessel, and to and from shore to the vessel 
  • Communicating in person and or by radio with ships’ officers and ticketing staff 
  • Checking propane tanks are shut off, and tagged 
  • Securing car decks and foot passenger gates prior to departure 
  • Carrying out under direction general ships’ husbandry, cleaning and maintenance duties of the interior and exterior of the vessel including but not limited to garbage pickup, cleaning mess rooms, stairwells and interior windows; pushing, pulling and lifting heavy stores; chipping and scrapping surfaces; and painting 
  • Patrolling the vessel to watch for unusual situations, potential safety hazards and passenger compliance with regulations; standing fog, bridge or anchor watch; steering the vessel under the direction of a deck officer when serving as a quartermaster; and keeping a constant lookout for marine traffic and navigational hazards 
  • Performing additional duties as assigned which may include standby anchors during dockingparticipating in fire and boat drills; performing emergency duties; conducting checkoffs for self-contained breathing apparatus and firefighting; doing vehicle counts; assisting with annual refit and life raft exchange; spreading salt; splicing rope; taking inventory; and changing navigation lights 

 

What you bring to the team 

This position requires Marine Emergency duties training – STCW Basic Safety (MED A1 and MED B2) and Proficiency in Survival Craft (MED B1). You have the ability to react in a safe and effective manner during an emergency and to direct and control vehicles and passengers. You have a working knowledge of safe work practices and seamanship and ability to climb ladders, handle ships’ lines and move heavy objects.  

 

Preference may be shown to applicants with a Bridge Watch rating or higher certificate. Applicants must hold a valid Seafarers’ Medical Certificate.

  • Works with and maintains departmental KPI’s as they pertain to Company goals set out and provides feedback to employees consistently.  This includes, maintaining staff daily KPI logs to ensure complete by end of week to monitor phone queue reports, refused & undelivered stats, appointment stats, # Sent E-mails, and any additional workload staff may perform daily to add to their day under “other”. 
  • Works with and supports the Admin. Team to maintain steady and up-to-date workflow.
  • Works on administrative projects as required by the Administration Manager / Terminal and Regional Managers.
  • Manage/audit reports such as TruckMate, Salesforce, R&U Report, Fineable Appts., Beyond EDD Reports.
  • Other related duties as required by Admin. Manager and/or Reg. Admin. Mgr., Terminal Manager or Reg. Ops Mgr.

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Minimum of secondary education in the office administration field, with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years experience in the administrative field with responsibility of data entry and interpretation of payroll laws, policies and guidelines preferably in the Transportation industry
  • 1-3 years of Supervisory / Leadership experience.
  • 3-5 years Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred.  Various roles within transportation and administration is beneficial.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate a team in a high pressure, deadline-driving environment.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Organized individual with strong/advanced communication and resolution skills. 
  • Ability to work deadlines in a high transactional environment. 
  • Excellent Computer skills and accuracy, MS products, AS400, web-based payroll programs.
