As Master, you lead the shipboard management team and are responsible for safety; departmental leadership; crew supervision and a strong customer service focus. The Master ensures efficient vessel operations, including navigation, route and ship management, regulatory compliance, maintaining operational records and logs, and supporting the business performance of the vessel. The Role: 

• Oversee the navigation of the vessel between ports safely and efficiently, ensuring that it is berthed and unberthed in a safe, efficient manner 

• Make operational judgements based on weather, vessel traffic, and condition of the ship 

• Oversee the comprehensive vessel maintenance program, including cleaning, monitoring and replacement of safety and fire equipment, bridge equipment, stores, publications, and certificates 

• Ensure a high standard of customer service, resolving and providing guidance on the resolution of customer and employee problems, complaints, and grievances 

• Ensure that all written policies and procedures are kept current and that the route performance records and vessel’s operation are in accordance with regulatory, certification, and audit requirements  

• Have suitable working experience as a Chief Officer or Master of a vessel over 350 GRT including management of the activities of deck and shipboard employees 

• Act as an on-watch management representative for the Company 

• Are computer proficient with a good working knowledge of current software programs

The Team

Welcome to the Adult Custody Division team. As an employee at one of ten correctional centres, you will work alongside a team of correctional officers towards the common goal of maintaining the safety and security of the individuals in our custody. Correctional officers have the opportunity to rotate through designated posts in several departments, each of which is overseen by a correctional supervisor and the broader management team to provide direction and guidance. This position is responsible for case management, and program facilitation to support our organizational efforts to reduce recidivism and create positive change. Through this process, correctional officers collaborate with numerous professionals committed to the same purpose, including educators, health professionals, chaplains, Indigenous Cultural Liaisons, volunteers and community partners.

The Role

The Adult Custody correctional officer is responsible for maintaining the security and safety of individualsin custody through pro-social modelling, program delivery, and offering positive guidance and clear direction. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to take an active role in creating a supportive environment and behavioural change for individuals in custody. This role offers an opportunity to work in multiple departments within the correctional centre alongside a team of dedicated professionals. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• 19 years of age or older
• Grade 12 or equivalent*
• Grade 12 English with a final grade of 70% or equivalent*
• Valid BC Driver's license (minimum class 5), or equivalent from another province.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada (you must be legally permitted to work in Canada at the time you apply for a position either through citizenship or permanent residency)

About this Position:

There are multiple regular full-time positions available, based out of the location listed above.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
Correctional centres are 24-hour operations. Successful applicants will be required to work evenings/weekends/holidays and a variety of shift patterns.
