The Opportunity:

The Communications Coordinator reports to the Manger, Communications. The successful candidate will serve in the Communications and Public Affairs department and assist in all aspects of the group’s work, including both internal and external communications, corporate communications, media relations, community involvement activities, brand marketing and product launches, corporate event planning and corporate digital communications.

The candidate will possess previous communications experience and can effectively communicate and engage with Maple Leaf Foods 13,000+ Team Members across more than25 facilities throughout North America. The candidate will work cross functionally with a variety of subject matter experts to support the Communications team’s programs that will drive engagement among Maple Leaf Foods.
The candidate will also work with media and agency partners. The candidate will be involved in supporting the team in a variety of communications campaigns, with the goal of supporting Maple Leaf Foods to communicate our Vision to be the most sustainable protein company on Earth and our Mission to Raise the Good in Food.  

To be successful, the candidate will have the ability to support multiple stakeholders with internal communications and support external campaigns, all while managing assigned deliverables on a timely basis, in a fast-paced setting.

This role seeks a combination of strong writing, strategic thinking, planning, strong organization, and a willingness to be a team player. An established knowledge, history and experience in the overall specialty of corporate communications and public relations is an asset.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

Internal Communications

  • Assist in identifying, coordinating and prioritizing strategic and tactical communications by maintaining a communications calendar of events to guide the team in long-term strategic planning.
  • Create materials and content to support different internal initiatives (Food Safety Symposium, Food Security Symposium, Commemoration) that will inform and raise awareness of key organizational events, strategies and priorities.
  • Build relationships and contacts with different departments to assist in developing communication materials for different internal campaigns and company initiatives.
  • Support the Sr. Content Specialist in the creation, management, maintenance, and scheduling of stories on the internal communications intranet:
      • Assist in developing meaningful content on the site and organizing an editorial calendar of regular content,
      • Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of content according to brand guidelines. This includes site administration and training other internal users as required,
      • Analyze data and analytics of article performance, on an as-needed basis.
    • Update important corporate documents, such as informational fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations, backgrounders and templates. Working with internal stakeholders including translation teams to manage updates and approval processes.

External Communications

  • Assist with media monitoring and distribution, including analyzing morning media reports, distributing sensitive articles to internal departments.
  • Write and seek approvals for external corporate communication materials including corporate fact sheets, key messages, Q&As and backgrounders.
  • Support in updating corporate website content, provide website update recommendations and perform regular website audits for accuracy and consistency.
  • Draft insightful and compelling blogs for the corporate website, on a variety of topics related to the Maple Leaf Foods business. Liaise and/or interview subject matter experts to write content, as needed. Pitch and produce creative ideas, according to SEO optimization.  
  • Assist the Manager, Communications, with monitoring issues of corporate concern via traditional and social media.
General Communications
  • Support in communication campaigns by editing / proofreading material deliverables for the team.
  • Provide event planning support for internal and external events.
  • Develop internal campaigns to reinforce key messaging and support a variety of Communications initiatives across the organization for both salaried and hourly Team Members.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 2-3+ years of experience in communications including established skills in writing and editing, and planning and scheduling across multiple internal mediums.
  • PR agency experience a strong asset.
  • The candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma from an accredited college or university with specialization in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field of study.
  • Experience in communication principles and practices, including familiarity in change management.
  • Comfortable prioritizing and balancing multiple schedules and competing deadlines.
  • Detail oriented and organized, and thrives in a fast-paced business environment.

Skills and Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities


Under the direction of the Manager, Transit Maintenance or Assistant Superintendent of Transit Vehicle Maintenance the successful candidate:

  • Oversees the day to day activities of the maintenance staff to ensure the effective and efficient management and coordination of vehicle inspection, repair, cleaning and overall maintenance operation

  • Ensures that employees are instructed in methods, procedures, and performance standards for all maintenance activities and operations
  • Supports and may be called on to supervise the daily operation of the bus wash racks, fuelling stations and fare box clearing in the absence of the Washbay Supervisor
  • Manages statistical data such as book-offs, sick absences, overtime, lieu/floater day requests, and accident/incident forms 
  • Participates in monthly maintenance meetings and ensures that maintenance records are kept up to date via input to maintenance clerk 
  • Ensures that all work adheres to the Ministry of Transportation legislated requirements 
  • Ensures that assigned staff complies with all safety requirements, Corporate policy and procedures, and Standard Practice Instructions 
  • Supports in orientation and training of new Transit Maintenance staff in Transit policies and procedures 
  • Identifies and assists with bus and bus part warranty claims and the tagging of defective components, thereby ensuring manufacturer/supplier warranty commitments are upheld 
  • Monitors the work environment to ensure tools, parts and materials are properly treated, stored or disposed of and that cores and repairable parts are returned to Stores 
  • Maintain positive employee relations by fair and equitable treatment of all staff in all areas including: assignment of work, and managing performance expectations.
  • Conduct technical investigations and procedural quality audits, as required.

Required Qualifications

For at least 3 years, must have increasingly responsible work and supervisory experience, and demonstrated the capability for supervising other employees.

  • The successful candidate must hold a valid - Truck and Coach Technician (310T) certificate and maintain it in good standing,
  • A preferred asset would be a current Ontario Government Certificate of Qualifications Automotive Service Technician (310S) as well.
  • Must have a valid G Driver’s License; D or C Ontario Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement is preferred with a Driving Abstract acceptable to the city.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, afternoons, days, and stat holidays with various off days

Additional Skills

Responsibilities  

  • Execute Weekly happy calls after repair completion / Make call back to customers after repair completed to collect feedback (same as NPS questions indicated in the NPS report).
  • Follow up with all assigned SROs on daily basis to prevent unnecessary trips for repair.
  • Follow up with parts dept on pending orders or back orders.
  • Monitor and answer social media (fb, instagram, twitter, reddit) service feedback
  • Receive escalated cases from T2 (VOC, Repair status, parts availability...)
  • Daily Handling of VOC the triage for all escalations including investigating and collecting evidence and POP
  • Create RMA for escalated non-repairable cases reported by both CC and ASC
  • Escalate Exchanges requests to ECR.
  • Receive all technical inquiries from T2 and provide solution.
  • Create Technical bulletin for call center.
  • Ship FW to customers if required.
  • Improved FCR by training and coaching front-line agents.
  • Support with training of the Front line on new policies and procedures and all communications from Canada back office and provide training report.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in customer service-related position in a service industry.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to details and ability to maintain accurate records.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Councillor and functional guidance of the Councillor’s Executive Assistant the Administrative Assistant, Ward 7 will carry out the daily duties of the Council Office.
The successful candidate will be considered for the duration of the Elected Official’s term of Office. The current term ends November 14, 2026. There will be an opportunity for renewal should the Elected Official remain in office for another term.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:
•    Ensure the Councillor is relieved of all administrative details as it relates to the day-to-day running of the office.
•    Assume primary responsibility for the review, distribution, and response to all incoming correspondence and telephone inquiries to appropriate staff member.
•    Forward inquiries, which are not routine or general, to Executive Assistant for follow-up and action.
•    Receive and respond to in-person, telephone and email inquiries from the public.
•    Drafting correspondence on behalf of the Councillor (written).
•    Updating and maintaining spreadsheets and databases, and data entry.
•    Photocopying, opening and distributing mail, and other general clerical duties.
•    Maintaining and updating the Councillor’s contact list.
•    Budget monitoring experience required.
•    Working knowledge in a Windows environment with experience in the Internet and web posting and social media postings and website creation/maintenance.
•    Attend and assist in the organization of events.
•    Liaise with other Councillors, Councillors Assistants, senior management, other government officials, constituents and community representatives as required.
•    General office support activities with the Councillor’s Executive Assistant.
•    May undertake other activities consistent with the requirements of the Councillor’s office, such as attending site visits, meeting with constituents and representing the Councillor as required.
•    Required to prepare social media posts and communication pieces for the Councillor.

Skills and Qualifications

•    Post- secondary education with two to five years’ experience in an administrative related position is required. 
•    Minimum of 3 years of experience working with elected official is highly preferred. 
•    Knowledge of the City sufficient to obtain information in response to constituent questions and issues and to refer constituents.
•    Knowledge of the mandate and structure of Council and its committees is highly preferred.
•    Knowledge of various MS Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
•    Knowledge of office systems and procedures.
•    Energetic, motivated and a self-starter.
•    Deal effectively with time frames and deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
•    Deal effectively with people under circumstances where the other party can be highly irate and unreasonable.
•    Strong ability to multitask and take on a variety of assignments.
•    Organize, prioritize and manage tasks and responsibilities toward timely completion, adjusting priorities as required.
•    Ability to maintain composure in stressful and difficult situations.
•    Ability to demonstrate a high level of tact and diplomacy when dealing with constituents, other Councillors, senior management, different levels of government, etc.
•    Excellent written and oral communication and listening skills.
•    Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense

Hourly Rate/Salary: $32.39 - $43.18 (Based on Salary Grade C $ 58,942.00 - $ 78,592.00
