Reporting directly to the Associate Director, Credit & Trade Deductions, the OS&D (Overages, Shortages & Damages) Clerk will be responsible for working with a team to resolve all overages, shortages & damages claims and investigations on behalf of the organization. This individual will be required to work with all internal departments as well as retailers, carriers, brokers as part of regular investigations. This role impacts all areas of the business and requires a high level of attention to detail. The role will be based our of our Markham office.

 

Responsibilities include:

Manage a high volume of OSD&D items and provide a resolution to retailers, carriers, customers etc. as well as internal teams, brokers.

Liaise with different internal departments, external clients and brokers

Investigate claims for refusals, overages, shortages, damages to find root cause

Work with all carriers, warehouse and internal teams to resolve issues

File claims with carriers

Ability to be resources and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise

All duties are extremely critical, time sensitive and requires a high level of diplomacy

Maintain clear documentation for all claims & investigations

Ensure compliance with company processes & procedures

Required Skills:

Minimum 1 year OS&D experience, preference in the transportation industry

Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Ability to work effectively under pressure

Strong multi-tasker with ability to prioritize and re-prioritize as task importance changes

Strong Microsoft Excel skills – vlookup, pivot table ect.

Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to be creative and innovate in solutions.

Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment

Excellent verbal & written communication

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Month End Close

  • Review project revenue/gross margins & unbilled backlog analysis with the finance/operational leaders for month end review.
  • Prepare the revenue recognition entries (using percentage of completion revenue recognition) with supporting

  • Conduct project financial close out and reconciliation.
  • Record journal entries, and maintain and reconcile general ledger to the job cost and other sub ledgers.

  • Assistance in conducting accurate and complete forecasting of revenue and margins by project

  • Prepare other ad hoc reports for management as required
  • Understand GAAP requirements, particularly around revenue recognition
  • Understand basic interactions between financial systems related to the portfolio supported

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 3-6 years of progressive experience in public accounting or industry roles
  • University graduation or professional certification (e.g. P. Eng, CMA, CGA or equivalent courses)
  • Ability to communicate basic accounting principles to support procedures and to explain financial results within the team and to internal customers.
  • Ability to complete and resolve assigned complex account reconciliation which sees the highest transaction volume or deal with multiple portfolios or business units.
  • Ability to reconcile and resolve discrepancies between general ledger and sub ledger.
  • Ability to identify and provide recommendations for issues and process improvement opportunities at account and business unit level following GAAP procedures.
  • In-depth understanding of audit requirements within scope of responsibility.

  • Level of reading, writing, and learning skills normally attained through the completion of a high school education 
  • Minimum of six (6) months public facing customer service experience (dealing directly with the public/customers). 
  • Experience driving a commercial vehicle or other large vehicle is an asset. 
  • Ability to Assist customers and emergency services (under the direction from Network Operations Control). 
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain customer relations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12

You are responsible for performing a wide range of duties expected of a Vehicle and Equipment Technician 2, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting diagnostic inspections, performing general mechanical overhaul and repair work, and performing scheduled preventive daily maintenance inspections and repairs on vehicle system and components including, but not limited to, steering, suspension, electrical, ignition, fuel, emission control/exhaust and engine management, hydraulics, and vehicular climate control systems.
