Job Details

Under supervision of the Recreation Technician 8 and 10, this position performs lifeguard duties and provides instructional lessons in accordance with the health and safety procedures and standards established and/or adopted by the City of Saskatoon.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction using effective and appropriate teaching methodology and safe participant procedures for aquatic programs.
  • Prepares lesson plans for swimming lessons according to instructional standards.
  • Completes worksheets, takes attendance, and completes participant progress reports.
  • Safeguards public admission and rental group activities and responds to emergency situations according to standards.
  • Participates in the in-service training programs established to maintain fitness levels and lifeguard standards.
  • Maintains a hazard-free, clean, and safe pool and work area.
  • Provides education to participants and the public about safety in and around the water, e.g. bulletin boards, handouts and tours.
  • Conducts daily safety checks of play equipment, emergency first aid equipment, and performs daily water tests.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience Requirements

  • Grade 10 education
  • Possession of the following valid qualifications:
    • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option), 
    • CPR Level C
    • Red Cross Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care Award; and
    • Lifesaving Instructor Certification is considered an asset.
    • Six month's related experience instructing and as a lifeguard preferred.

  • Knowledge of current lifeguard techniques, including first aid and emergency procedures, and instructional techniques, methods, and practices.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Manage the Human Resources function to ensure that key HR initiatives are aligned with the Plant operational strategy
  • Primary deliverables include tools and interventions in the areas of performance management, work environment practices, rewards and recognition, retention, leadership development, compensation, employee development and advancement, diversity and employee satisfaction 
  • Provides advice and guidance in all Labour Relations matters, including grievance/dispute resolution, interpretation and application of the CBA and all disciplinary matters
  • Ensure that Human Resources Key Performance Indicators such as Attendance, Turnover, Retention are tracked and monitored 
  • Facilitate execution of plant operations and corporate programs (e.g. succession planning, orientation, PAD and DAP planning etc.)
  • Prepares and administers the HR budget and ensuring effective control to ensure that spending is within budget
  • Drives Continuous Improvement initiatives related to Human Resources
  • Develops and drives the execution of an annual HR Plan for the facility which focuses on the delivery of key Plant and Corporate HR initiatives

Job Details

Under supervision of the Recreation Technician 8 and 10, this position performs lifeguard duties and provides instructional lessons in accordance with the health and safety procedures and standards established and/or adopted by the City of Saskatoon.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction using effective and appropriate teaching methodology and safe participant procedures for aquatic programs.
  • Prepares lesson plans for swimming lessons according to instructional standards.
  • Completes worksheets, takes attendance, and completes participant progress reports.
  • Safeguards public admission and rental group activities and responds to emergency situations according to standards.
  • Participates in the in-service training programs established to maintain fitness levels and lifeguard standards.
  • Maintains a hazard-free, clean, and safe pool and work area.
  • Provides education to participants and the public about safety in and around the water, e.g. bulletin boards, handouts and tours.
  • Conducts daily safety checks of play equipment, emergency first aid equipment, and performs daily water tests.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience Requirements

  • Grade 10 education
  • Possession of the following valid qualifications:
    • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option), 
    • CPR Level C
    • Red Cross Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care Award; and
    • Lifesaving Instructor Certification is considered an asset.
    • Six month's related experience instructing and as a lifeguard preferred. 

 

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Knowledge of current lifeguard techniques, including first aid and emergency procedures, and instructional techniques, methods, and practices. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, supervisor, and the public. 
  • ability to demonstrate skills and techniques required and maintain fitness level necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with supervisor, staff, and the public. 
  • Ability to apply theory to practical learning situations. 
  • Ability to evaluate and adjust lesson plans to meet the participant needs.
  • Ability to work the assigned, designated participant group.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and provide direction during emergency situations.

 

Requires Security Check

Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.

Under supervision of the Environmental Projects and Protection Manager, this position performs field and office duties related to the construction, operation and maintenance of waste stream systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of contract documents for waste stream projects. Prepares cost estimates and tender summaries.
  • Performs inspections of projects to ensure compliance with specifications. Prepares progress reports. Issues deficiency lists, drafts completion and final certificates and compiles detailed summaries of expenditures.
  • Performs inspections of existing waste stream systems for condition and performance using appropriate equipment.
  • Coordinates and performs routine maintenance on existing waste stream systems.
  • Compiles and analyses cost, condition and performance data related to waste stream systems to establish operations, maintenance and restoration programs. Assists with establishing preliminary programs for the construction, operation and maintenance of waste stream systems.
  • Coordinates and monitors the testing of materials required to ensure compliance with specifications and operating permits. Reviews and summarizes the results of testing and provides recommendations as required.
  • Identifies design, operation or construction problems and recommends and implements field designs or changes.
  • Performs accurate preliminary, topographical, construction, benchmark, investigative and as-built surveys for waste stream operation, maintenance and construction programs.
  • Performs all calculations related to the acquisition of survey data. Acquires survey data for integrated electronic drafting systems in accordance with established Departmental procedures and formats. Performs quality control checks, as required, to ensure that all data complies with specified accuracy requirements.
  • Provides assistance with the development of waste system operations policies, procedures and safe work practices.
  • Supervises and trains subordinate staff as required.
  • Ensures that ail work complies with all occupational health and safety requirements prescribed by the City and Saskatchewan Labour. Inspects work sites for compliance with these requirements and issues verbal and written reports of such inspections.
  • Communicates regularly with contractors, engineers, other government and regulatory agencies and the public as required to schedule and coordinate work.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training Requirements: 

  • Graduation from a two-year, post-secondary civil, mechanical, drafting or geomatics technology program.
  • Certification, or eligibility for certification, as an Applied  Science Technologist with the Saskatchewan
  • Applied Science Technologists and Technicians.
  • Two years' of experience in the waste stream industry
  • Two years of directly related, progressively responsible survey or inspection experience.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record driving record.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Knowledge of waste systems and their operational best practices.
  • Ability to produce, read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to operate a computer with word-processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Ability to perform basic electronic drafting duties.
  • Physical ability to perform all assigned duties

Weekly Hours: 40 

Term: 1 Temporary Full Time position available for approximately 18 months.
