- Co-signs commercial vehicle inspection certificates to ensure confirmation of vehicle safety and MTO compliance
- Diagnoses and repairs a variety of makes of hydraulic, pneumatic, high pressure water and steam systems; makes necessary modifications over manufacturer’s design when needed.
- Diagnoses and calibrate LPG and CNG systems to keep all gaseous emissions within ministry standards; manages complex emission systems.
- Works on refrigerant based system; understands and repair heating and cooling systems on all vehicles and equipment including accessory equipment (coolant heaters).
- Inspects, maintains and uses required personal and protective equipment to ensure safety for personal and common shop use.
- Responds/actions service calls in all weather conditions at any times of the day; performs vehicle and equipment repairs on-site, and transports back to the garage if further repair is required.
- Diagnoses problems and mechanical failures, and ensures safe operation of City of Brampton equipment.
- Programs and sets up various types of equipment, including but not limited to sand, salt, de-icing, brine, and grass cutting equipment; calibrates street sweeping equipment, ice flooders, and emission control units.
- Teaches and provides in-house training to co-workers and Apprentices;
- Provides instructions and collaborates with Garage General Helpers and other staff on equipment usage and maintenance procedures.
- Designs, modifies, and fabricates components on new and used equipment to achieve maximum efficiency.
- Coordinates with Parts department in stocking items, and provides parts list for equipment to be serviced.
- Performs pre-delivery inspections and prepared vehicles for service.
- Performs vehicle repairs and modifications with the use of oxy-acetylene, welding, grinding, soldering, cutting equipment.
- Periodically cleans vehicles and equipment to be able to properly diagnose and repair; performs minor body repairs or patch work on equipment needing attention.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of equipment, procedures, technology, etc. Attends training sessions and speciality workshops, trade shows, upgrade courses, reviews manuals, etc.
- Performs general maintenance to shop accessory and ancillary equipment.
- Performs similar and related duties as assigned.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- High School (Grade 12) graduation plus achievement of two (2) trade licenses - Truck and Coach Technician (310T), and Automotive Service Technician (310S)
- Over four (4) years, up to and including eight (8) years
- Truck and Coach Technician (310T), and Automotive Licence (310S).
- A current class “DZ” license in good standing, or the ability to upgrade an existing class “G” driver’s license to a class “DZ” license.

Oversee the inventory of spare parts through a stockroom with a perpetual inventory and procurement.

- Share information with Supervisor and others regularly. Assist with budget preparation and setting financial controls. Represent function at meetings and as required on committees. Provide information for RFQs and RFPs. Respond to questions from internal and external stakeholders.

EDUCATION:

What You Will Be doing:
•Tailoring Solutions: You build rapport with customers to understand their needs and match them to Rogers and Fido brand products including Wireless, Cable, Hi-Speed Internet, Home Phone, and Rogers Mastercard
•Sales: Identifying opportunities, anticipating customer needs and achieving sales goals within a dynamic and supportive team environment.
•Customer Engagement: Drive sales through engagement of existing customers by calling and texting to promote Rogers and Fido branded products.
•Brand Representation: Representing Rogers and Fido brands in-store and at local community events.

This position is responsible for achieving operational goals and ensures ongoing equipment (system) reliability through preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, overhaul, troubleshooting/analysis, and equipment upgrades.
- Perform service, preventive, and corrective maintenance on all DC equipment following department procedures and trade best practices, working in a safe and effective manner, and adhering to all safety policies. Follow maintenance quality and standard operating procedures as established.
- Respond to all equipment breakdowns in a timely manner. Perform repairs with minimal supervision, taking responsibility and decision making to oversee that the job is complete within time demands.
- Maintain accurate repair parts and work records on computerized maintenance system (MAXIMO). Provide accurate repair and troubleshooting information for all work in Maximo: time spent, parts used, failure comments, suggestions for corrective repairs or improvements, etc.
- Provide information on equipment and system problems to team lead or maintenance coordinator and provide updates as required, seeing job to completion within time requirements.
- Demonstrate flexibility when tasks are re-assigned or altered.
- Train and mentor apprentices in mechanical & job-specific skills.
What you bring:
- Licensed Industrial Mechanic Millwright (Ontario Certificate of Qualification #433A)
- Ability to stand for long periods with occasional laying, stooping and crouching plus frequent heavy lifting (up to 50 lb)
- Fabrication experience and ability to weld in all positions along with rigging and 5S experience.
- Demonstrated skills/experience with; pneumatics, machinery/repair/overhaul, troubleshooting skills with material handling equipment (e.g., conveyors, stretchwrappers, etc.).
- Certificate of Apprenticeship (Ontario or Canadian equivalent)
- Maximo CMMS experience with strong skills using MS Office (Excel, Word) or Autocad.
- Experience with towlines, automated conveyor systems (Intelligrated is an asset), automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS, Eaton-Kenway or HK Systems) are assets.
- Health & Safety experience (e.g., safety committee experience).
- Ability to teach/mentor inexperienced trades or apprentices is an asset.
