Maintenance Planner/Scheduler Full-time Job

In the role of Maintenance Planner/Scheduler working in Chilliwack, BC you will be part of the Maintenance and Engineering team in our Fraser Valley brewery. You will be responsible for contributing to World Class Maintenance Program through utilizing Reliability Centered Maintenance practices to effectively manage maintenance planning and scheduling in the Fraser Valley Brewery while optimizing resources, time and material to execute tasks. This position reports to the Technical Services Manager.

 

The targeted salary range of this position is $76,000 - $90,000 based on experience. Bonus, 401k matching, and other benefits also included.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Maintenance Team Leaders, to develop complete work plans for corrective, preventive, and predictive work that include safety information, job steps, parts required, special tools needs, and estimated man hours by trade. Shop floor planning of mechanical and electrical maintenance work. This would also include contacting vendors for parts required or contractors for outsourced work. Parts kitting for all planned work prior to scheduling. 
  • Deliver the weekly work schedule utilizing trade availability, contractors and autonomous maintenance teams to align with production schedules and maintenance windows.
  • Maintain a current backlog of work for Trades and Contractors, this would consist of Preventative, Predictive, Statutory and Condition Based tasks.
  • Ensure the Planning and Scheduling functionality is maintained within the CMMS system. 
  • Lead weekly planning & scheduling meetings to align maintenance activities for running and shut-down maintenance with Production teams. Ensure maintenance schedules include work permits, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the teams to provide quality feedback. Utilize this information to make improvements to preventive and predictive maintenance tasks within the CMMS.
  • Backfill Maintenance Team Leaders role when required. Assume all duties to provide effective maintenance support for Operations.
  • Member of the Progressive Maintenance pillar team. Owner of Daily Management Systems (lubrication and maintenance planning & scheduling) as part of the team. Completion of ‘step up cards’ to check knowledge of pillar deliverables.

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience as a licensed Tradesman or a degree in a technical field, ideally mechanical.
  • Experience working with vendors, identifying, sourcing machine parts and electrical components. Able to communicate with Team Leaders and Trades to provide required parts and tools.
  • Experience as a Maintenance Team Leader is a definite asset.
  • Proficient in the use of a CMMS system for Planning & Scheduling. Experience in the use of SAP PM module for Planning & Scheduling would be beneficial.
  • A background in a unionized industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Both technically strong and people oriented, you demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and you are a strong team player.
  • You can work successfully and independently and adapt as necessary in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.

Duties: GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve efficient and economical operation in the maintenance of existing municipal utilities systems as well as assisting management to achieve efficiency in roads and traffic operations. The incumbent will also be responsible for the inspection of new construction and installation of revised or additional systems or works according to the national, provincial and municipal laws, codes and regulations and best engineering practices. Under the supervision of the Manager, the Engineering Technologist’s duties are performed in accordance with City and engineering policies and project objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of confidential material pertaining to the Department's operation.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:

The incumbent will be responsible for performing work of a technical nature related to utilities which include water supply and distribution, sewage collection and sewage pump stations, roads, transportation and drainage systems, and municipal landfill operations as applicable. Technical work may include conducting investigations, surveys, inspections, analysis of data, designs, specifications, drawings, cost estimates and reports. The incumbent may recommend standards for municipal work and for private work related or controlled by municipal bylaws. The incumbent will also make recommendations for work programs, assist in the preparation of budgets, attend committee and other meetings as and when required; write letters, prepare purchase orders, certify invoices and claims for payments, monitor expenditures in relation to budget control, keep records, files and drawings updated and maintain section filing systems. The incumbent will liaise closely with other sections of the Department. The incumbent will provide assistance and technical information to staff, contractors, consultants, utility companies, developers and the general public, as required. The incumbent will be required to perform other related tasks including supervision of project contractors and employees as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Manager. The incumbent will be required to attend technical services and training courses when required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent will normally work the standard work week of Monday to Friday within the hours specified and, on occasion, work overtime as authorized. The incumbent may be required to travel in the performance of duties. The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Education: - Must be a graduate of an Institute of Technology in a two (2) year Civil Engineering or other Program relevant to the function of the role and should have two (2) years experience related municipal work, OR an acceptable combination of training and experience;
- Must hold or be eligible to a relevant designation with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC or other professional licensing body relevant to municipal work;
Skills: - Sound knowledge of engineering and technical methods, practices and procedures required in the performance of duties of the position;
- Sound knowledge of backflow prevention principles and the BC Plumbing Code and associated practices;
- Sound knowledge of municipal engineering, construction and maintenance operations;
- Computer literate with in-depth working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office;
- Sound knowledge of national, provincial and municipal laws, bylaws, codes and regulations governing municipal engineering works;
- Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with developers, contractors, engineers, elected officials, department officials, staff and the general public;

Responsibilities

The Talent Acquisition Specialist (TAS) is responsible for managing all aspects of labor recruitment across the organization. This includes developing recruitment strategies, identifying effective sourcing methods and resources, and implementing innovative, creative approaches to attract top talent. The TAS ensures that hiring practices align with the organization’s needs and goals while promoting a positive candidate experience. 

The Talent Acquisition Specialist (TAS) plays a vital role in ensuring the organization hires top talent by developing and executing recruitment strategies, networking with industry professionals, and coordinating university/college recruitment initiatives. Key responsibilities include managing administrative tasks, maintaining accurate records within the applicant tracking system, and staying proactive about business needs. The TAS monitors industry trends to source, pre-screen, interview, and assess candidates for current and future job openings, maintaining a robust, up-to-date pool of qualified candidates. A core function of this role is conducting effective competency-based interviews to identify the best fit for each position. 

 

Major Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for recruiting hourly and salary staff across all divisions in Canada and the U.S. 
  • Work with all hiring Managers/Supervisors to identify their personnel needs, job specifications and duties, qualification and skill requirements. 
  • Understand key features of each Division including current pay rates, pension rates, benefits package and unique aspects of the haul.  
  • Ensure all open positions have associated recruitment plans and relevant advertisements in place.  
  • Advise and guide management on organizing, preparing, and implementing recruiting and retention programs.  
  • Provide guidance to hiring Managers/Supervisors regarding all possible recruiting resources such as job boards, trailer decals, employee referral programs, signage, recruitment events, newspaper or other paper ads, radio, social media etc... 
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on advertising requirements and analyze marketing analytics to optimize recruitment efforts and employer branding. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of pay equity, human rights and employment standards guidelines and laws. 
  • Review and evaluate applicant qualifications and eligibility. Contact successful applicants for telephone interview subject to the Job Description and minimum hiring criteria, inform them about the role, the operation, and compensation details such as pay, pension and benefits and follow up with them regarding the status of their employment and next steps.  
  • Evaluate recruitment and selection criteria to ensure conformance to professional, statistical, and testing standards, recommending revision as needed.  
  • Take the lead on attending (or delegating Arrow personnel) Job/Employment fairs to recruit for open positions and for community presence and relevant College open houses (i.e. mechanic apprentice) and Network through industry contacts, association memberships, trade groups and employees.  
  • Maintain job templates in the applicant tracking system to ensure all data is current and accurate.  
  • Efficiently fill open positions while collaborating with managers and supervisors to plan for future vacancies driven by growth and other factors. 
  • Conduct regular follow-up with managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation.  
  • Develop a pool of qualified candidates in advance of need.  
  • Research and recommend new sources for active and passive candidate recruiting.  
  • Identify best practices in recruitment and implement strategies to optimize the hiring process, enhance candidate experience, and improve overall talent acquisition outcomes. 
  • Ensure postings are on relevant job boards, social media platforms, professional organizations, etc 
  • Identify most successful posting locations for each role/geography.  
  • Regularly review the company website, career page, employer page on Indeed and make changeand recommendations to enhance recruiting efforts and improve the company’s image and branding 
  • Advise managers and employees on staffing policies and procedures.  
  • Coordinate all internal recruitment processes including job posting, transfers or promotion of selected employees ensuring all applicable standards in hiring are met.  
  • Provide training to new hiring managers on utilizing the Applicant Tracking System including Offer management/Onboarding. 
  • Track the progress of offers in the Applicant Tracking System. 
  • Aid public relations in establishing a recognizable "employer of choice" reputation for the company, both internally and externally.  
  • Maintain regular communication with managers and employees to build rapport, assess morale, and identify new candidate leads. 
  • Manage the use of recruiters and headhunters as required 
  • Perform other special projects as assigned.  

You Possess

  • 2-5 years of recruitment experience in a related field.
  • Previous experience with an applicant tracking system.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ability to quickly learn new computer applications i.e. Arrow custom applications, O365, etc. 
  • Strong understanding of recruitment processes, sourcing strategies, and interviewing techniques. 
  • Innovative thinker, able to use and develop new sources for recruitment.  
  • Ability to analyze and interpret the needs of clients and offer the appropriate options, solutions, and resolutions required.
  • Exceptional conflict resolution, negotiation, and objection handling skills.  
  • Knowledge of cost analysis, fiscal management, and budgeting techniques. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment.  
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively with different managers, candidate personalities, etc.  
  • Good training, coaching, and active listening skills are essential 
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments, key business partners, and employees.  
  • Strong safety mindset, and demonstrates a sense of responsibility, accountability, and commitment to the organization.
