Do you want to work with and be responsible for maintaining the biggest mining equipment as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at Suncor? You will use your technical knowledge and strong understanding of equipment maintenance to support our mine maintenance team in Fort McMurray.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two years of post-apprenticeship experience maintaining mining heavy equipment
  • Experience with Caterpillar (CAT) auxiliary equipment, and Komatsu haul trucks
  • A valid Alberta Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (Off Road) Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (Off Road) Certificate; attach your Journeyperson or red seal tickets with your application to be considered
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

 

Responsibilities:

  • Safely perform maintenance on and operate company provided equipment
  • Run maintenance repairs on our equipment, including troubleshooting hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, and electronics
  • Remove and replace major components (engines, transmissions, wheel motors, etc.)
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance guidelines are adhered to and maintain complete and accurate records for the technical and preventative aspects of this position
  • Participate in post-event failure analysis and root cause discussions to develop solutions
  • Execute all planned maintenance inspections and repairs on all types of heavy and auxiliary equipment
  • Build practices and procedures for repairs and implement approved modifications for the heavy equipment and auxiliary fleet

 

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts)
  • This position is safety sensitive

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP / S4 and Fieldglass is considered an asset
  • Lean Six Sigma certification is considered an asset

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as the primary contact between the Production Unit and the Rotating Engineering team, ensuring clear communication and coordination
  • Participate in daily and weekly Production Unit meetings to support equipment availability and decision-making
  • Provide updates and reports to stakeholders on the status of tasks, progress, and any potential concerns or deviations from the plan
  • Issue scope of work and inspection recommendations for Outage and routine maintenance activities
  • Issue reliability metrics reports for different equipment classes
  • Monitor equipment health, troubleshoot performance and failures, and complete root cause analysis
  • Complete equipment wear analysis
  • Apply a continuous improvement mindset to increase equipment reliability and decrease operating cost

The Details: 


This is a temporary part-time position that will start asap. The hours will range from 10-15 hours per week with potential for increased hours during our peak seasons. 



Wage: $21.00 / Hour 
KM Reimbursement: $0.62 / KM between Stores
Workdays: Flexible - Monday-Sunday, based on candidates' availability.
Hours: Variable, 10-15 per week from now until May. June/July up to 40 hours based on candidates' availability.  
Shifts: Days, between 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Duration: Temporary, until September 15th. Possibility of call back for November/ December Seasonal period. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and replenish products in store racks, shelves, displays, and coolers by transporting product between backroom/storage room to front-of-store with manual or powered equipment (pallet jack, hand-truck).
  • Build, change or remove product displays while adhering to company standards; maintaining product signage; cleaning product space and securing damaged or defective product.
  • Repetitively lift, carry and position product (weight up to 50lbs or 22kgs) above shoulder height without assistance.
  • Consistent kneeling, squatting and reaching above the head.
  • Manage backroom by organizing stock (product); identifying, monitoring, and reporting inventory levels; evaluating and processing damaged product; re-packing product; organizing backroom materials (i.e., pallets, product shells etc.); completing any required paperwork.
  • Follow all Coke Canada Bottling and Store policies regarding backroom, display floor, replenishment, equipment, and safety.
  • Maintain an orderly and clean work area in compliance with Company safety and sanitation requirements.    
  • Maintain professional relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • Ability to push and pull manual and powered equipment (i.e. pallet jack, hand-truck etc.) containing product loads for a minimum of 100 yards without assistance.
  • Ability to repetitively grasp and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.

Qualifications

  • Must be 17 years of age.
  • A valid class 5 provincial driver’s license.
  • Must have a reliable personal vehicle for use during working hours.
  • Must have current vehicle liability insurance.  
  • Provide a clean driving record with no major violations over the last three (3) years.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working in grocery, retail, warehousing or related field preferred.

What you will do:

  • Fully qualified trades-person capable of performing major maintenance and repair functions within the mechanical trade.
  • Capable of performing the installation and repair of complex equipment.
  • Must demonstrate a detailed understanding of Enbridge Safety Policies and Procedures and act in accordance with them at all times.
  • Possesses thorough understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of the work, providing recommendations for performance improvements.
  • Receives direction from Trades III/IV or Coordinator/Supervisor. The level of direction and supervision needed decreases as the incumbent takes on more complex tasks.
  • This role is expected to work with significant independence on standard assignments. Also, the role may be required to assist with more complex tasks requiring guidance by Trades III/IV or Coordinator/Supervisor.
  • Judgment required in assessing that a situation is safe to perform the work required and the most effective way of carrying out the work.

 

Who you are:

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent and Journeyperson Mechanical or Millwright with interprovincial certification with minimum 3 years related industrial experience, class 5 drivers’ license in good standing.
  • Possess good interpersonal, communications and interactive people skills.
  • Understands technical drawings.
  • Analytical skills for problem analysis.
  • Undergo various background screening that includes but is not limited to 5-year driving record, criminal check and a company sponsored medical and drug testing.

 

Working Condition:

  • Based out of Athabasca Cheecham Terminal in the Fort McMurray area.
  • Shift work, on a 7 on/7 off shift (12-hour shifts) days. Night shifts on an on-call basis.
  • Mix of field (~80%) and office (~20%) environments.
  • Work in hazardous or restricted locations such as pump buildings, confined spaces, tank lots, and other classified areas within facilities and along the Right of Way.
  • Working on and around high voltage equipment, transformers, disconnects, switchgear, motor control centres, electrical service buildings, etc.
  • Frequent travel and on-call responsibilities for assigned areas and stations.
  • Working on equipment situated at heights.
  • This position requires climbing, bending, lifting, standing, and crouching on a repetitive basis.
