Physical Security Coordinator Full-time Job

The Physical Security Coordinator will be a member of the BGIS NCR RP1 Security Team and will support the physical security program in compliance with both the RP1 contract, BGIS corporate policies, and all applicable Government of Canada Security Polices.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Physical Security
   Assists the Security Manager as the BGIS NCR initial point of contact for physical security related incidents, issues, questions, or concerns for the NCR Region. 
   Conducts scheduled and random physical access reviews at BGIS FMZ offices to ensure compliance with BGIS security policies and standards and Document Safeguarding security requirements.
   Develops and manages a Security Sweep program for the BGIS Ottawa office.
   Ensures Post Orders for BGIS Managed Commissionaires are updated annually.
   Maintains the Alternate Company Security Officers (ACSO) listing for the NCR, performs audits, changes and keeps up to date as required. 
   Assists in the Management of the Threat and Risk Assessments for the NCR and tracks and audits the Implementation Plan for each.
   Provides guidance and advice to Project Managers for physical security related projects. These projects can include the updating of any security systems in the buildings and projects relating to the implementation of recommendations from the respective Threat and Risk Assessment for the building. 
   Provides guidance to internal facility and/or project management teams as required under the direction of the Regional Security Manager.
   Assists in the implementation of cost saving initiatives and best practices.
   Attends Building Security Committee Meetings.

Training & Awareness
   Manages the NCR Security Awareness Program including for the BGIS Ottawa office. Activities include creating security awareness bulletins, conducting presentations to BGIS’ Operations and Project Management teams.

   Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

   Diploma or equivalent in the Security Management field
   Minimum of 3-5 years in the physical security field 
   Experience in design, implementation and/or management of physical security projects
   Experience in writing formal policies, guidelines and procedures
   Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
   Able to calmly manage a fast-paced work environment with several ongoing high-priority tasks
   Able to process, prioritize and respond to a high-volume of e-mail communication
   Knowledge of supporting security disciplines, document control, visitor access, personnel security processing, and security processes and procedures
   Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information to various audiences and all levels of the organization, both verbally and through written communications
   Must be dependable, responsive, customer-focused and possess the qualities of diplomacy, tact, excellent judgment, discretion and initiative and perform in a multi-tasked and dynamic environment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

You are responsible for supporting the implementation and evaluation of the OPH Reconcili-Action plan, and advising on building capacity for meaningful engagement with Indigenous organizations and communities to support population health. You develop and implement a strategic organizational approach to Indigenous cultural safety, including internal education and capacity building activities, and develop an engagement and relationship building strategy with Indigenous organizations and communities. You work within an anti-racism/ anti-oppression framework that acknowledges systemic racism and seeks to ensure fairness and equitable access for everyone.

You provide strategic policy analysis and environmental scanning of new developments, trends and issues in the public health and broader health system as they relate to Indigenous cultural safety and engagement with Indigenous organizations and communities. You keep abreast of initatives that may influence the progression of program objective, including but not limited to: National Inquiry on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) - Calls to Justice; United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People(UNDRIP); and, Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action (TRC) 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of a 4-year degree in a relevant discipline including, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Public Policy, Health Administration, Public Health, Organizational Development, Adult Education or related field

A minimum of 3 years of related experience working with Indigenous organizations and communities. Must have knowledge and lived experience related to Indigenous health. 

KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong understanding of Indigenous perspectives, cultures, and local Indigenous and community groups and agencies.
  • In-depth understanding of current issues affecting Indigenous communities, particularly related to health and public health.
  • Understanding of and experience working with anti-racist, anti-oppressive and culturally safe approaches, and in creating safe and inclusive environments. 
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to current and emerging issues related to health and wellness of Indigenous peoples (preferably through lived experience) as they pertain to Ottawa Public Health’s mandate. 
  • Knowledge of Indigenous pedagogy and Indigenous worldviews is strongly preferred. 
  • Understanding of Indigenous history, colonization, racism, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, and OCAP® Principles (ownership, control, access and possession). 
  • Knowledge of techniques and methodologies for establishing relationships with Indigenous organizations 
  • Knowledge of a variety of change management theories and methodologies. 
  • Knowledge of consultation and engagement principles and practices related to building relationships with Indigenous organizations and communities. 
  • Knowledge of the Ontario’s public health sector and broader health system, and of provincial and/or First Nations, Inuit and Métis government processes. 
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and methodologies 
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio) and familiarity with SharePoint.objectives.
  • Knowledge of Ottawa organizations and services that serve diverse populations, and in particular, communities that face barriers.  
  • Knowledge of Indigenous languages would be an asset  
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

JOB SUMMARY

As an integral member of the Ottawa Fire Services’ (OFS) emergency response team, Firefighters provide emergency response services in order to protect the lives, property and environment for the citizens of and visitors to the City of Ottawa.
Immediately, responds and performs all emergency scene duties, such as, but not limited to: firefighting, forcible entry, search and rescue, emergency medical aid and CPR, vehicle extrication, technical rescue operations, hazardous materials operations, and securing the emergency scene for the safety of the public and members of OFS.
Functions/operates under a command structure as an effective and supportive team member at all emergencies from small scale incidents to large scale disasters. Operates at height, in confined spaces, and in uncontrolled environments, including those that are immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH).
Drives/operates any apparatus/vehicles in accordance with policy and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and operates and uses all Ottawa Fire Services equipment, such as pumps, hoses, ground ladders, aerial apparatus platforms & ladders, generators, vehicle and equipment extrication tools, etc. Completes in-station duties and tasks, including: cleaning, inspections, testing & documentation of all inventory and equipment used, returns all equipment used to a state of readiness, as well as, regular maintenance of City of Ottawa property and grounds.
On a daily basis, cleans, inspects, maintains and performs safety checks on equipment and apparatus while maintaining a clean and orderly fire station. Completes all required training and retraining as assigned within the allotted timeframe. Participates in Pre-Incident Planning in order to be familiar with the immediate response area risks as well as new or unique building challenges, transportation route familiarity and obstacles such as those routes that are under construction. Educates the public about fire prevention and fire safety practices by participating in Public Education, and Fire Prevention activities as well as conducting Community Fire Safety programs, as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Successful completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma OSSD (Grade 12) or academic equivalent diploma.
Previous fire service or related sectors work experience would be an asset.
Skills and abilities acquired though related work such as trades, other emergency services, relevant training and educational programs would also be considered an asset.

 

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Successful completion of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level 1 & 2 and NFPA 1072 or 472 Operations level (proof of IFSAC or Pro Board seal). A Letter of Compliance with NFPA Standards from the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office (Grandfathering) will be accepted in lieu of Seals (documents required).
Successful completion of the Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI) Stage One Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test (as verified by possession of a current and valid Candidate Testing Services CTS Certificate (document required).

  • Red Cross First Responder BLS certificate; or,
  • Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder BLS certificate; or,
  • St. John Ambulance Medical First Responder BLS certificate; or,
