A part time job for just a few hours of the day. Here's the opportunity for you! We are hiring Crossing Guards for various locations in Mississauga.

 

Your main responsibilities include helping pedestrians, especially students, safely cross roads near schools. You'll explain safety rules, ensure compliance with traffic and safety laws, and wear provided safety gear. If needed, you might assist in training other crossing guards.

 

To be successful, you should be physically fit to stand and walk with a stop sign in various weather conditions for up to an hour. Good hearing, eyesight, and communication skills are essential. You'll work independently without constant supervision and need to be available for three shifts each weekday during the school year. While having a vehicle is a plus, it is not mandatory. The shifts total up to 3.5 hours a day within an 8-hour window. Your role is crucial for maintaining safety at school.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Crossing Guards the successful candidate:

  • Assists pedestrians in safely crossing roadways at designated school crossings.
  • Communicates rules of safe crossing to both students and adults.
  • Must ensure compliance to the Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the City's Respectful Workplace Policy etc.
  • Must wear supplied safety clothing and use all safety equipment as per training by the Supervisor, Crossing guards and /or Team Leader, Crossing Guards and/or Field Leader/Crossing Guards.
  • May assist in training other crossing guards if requested.
  • Must report incidents at the crossing to the supervisor, following up with the school officials and/or Peel Regional Police as directed by Supervisor.

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Must be in good physical condition in order to be able to stand and walk holding a stop sign for up to one hour at a time in all weather conditions.
  • Must demonstrate good hearing and eyesight.
  • Should have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently without direct day to day supervision.
  • Must be available Monday to Friday during the school year for 3 shifts per day (at school entry; at school lunch break, at school dismissal) as per the provided hours of duty.
  • Access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • You will be working 3 shifts consisting of up to 3.5 hours a day, during an 8 hour window. 
  • A Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) will be required of the successful candidate, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent  
  • Experience in automotive vehicle / commercial cleaning an asset
  • Experience in interior vehicle cleaning / detailing experience in the Transportation / Automotive industry is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of the O.H. & S. Act and WHMIS legislation requirements are an asset
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills along with strong customer service and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team environment, self-motivated and cooperative
  • Dependability and reliability factors are a requirement of this job due to shift work
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

  1. OPERATION SUPPORT

  • Provide support to Compliance Coordinator to implement recommendations appropriate at facilities.
  • Attend meetings as required and record and distribute meeting minutes if required.

  1. CUSTOMER SERVICE
  • Support facility customer service teams with internal and external customer service by processing and responding to a variety of inquiries and service requests; while adhering to corporate practices and standards.
  • Ensure high customer service standards are maintained for all programs and services. Review and evaluate admission processes and standards to ensure an optimal customer experience.
  • Act as a key source of contact and provide guidance, advice and support to ensure coordination meets operational needs and corporate service standards. Escalate complex issues to appropriate level for resolution.

  • Create and maintain documentation and ensure necessary sign-offs and approvals meet policies and confidentiality.
  1. CORPORATE CONTRIBUTION
  • Monitor compliance of corporate and departmental policies and standards for: cash handling, payroll, software, transactional and administrative reporting, budgetary records, and staff management.
  • Conduct business/financial research using internal and external resources that provides analytical analysis and references industry benchmarking to gain insight of market trends, current programs, processes and practices to support management and recommend ways to improve business processes, service solutions and best practices as required.

Workdays: Monday to Friday

Shift Start: 5:00 PM Shift averages 3-5 hours a day. Start times/finish times may vary with operational need.  Flexibility required.

Pay rate: $17.80/hr. (base rate of $17.30/hr. + an hourly bonus of $.50).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Load and unload packages into package delivery vehicles and trailers
  • Learn and properly execute company-established package handling methods
  • Sort and stock packages based on postal codes

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. (32kg) without assistance
  • Full availability to work Monday through Friday (all five days of the week)
  • Must be able to work 25 hours per week legally
  • Ability to read and memorize postal codes
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment
  • Comfortable working inside truck trailers and package delivery vehicles
  • No prior experience required

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Pay rate of $17.80/hr.(base rate of $17.30/hr. + an hourly bonus of $0.50)
  • Automatic pay rate progression as per the existing Union Collective Agreement (top rate: $27.01/hr. after 48 months)

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Solutions oriented, proven success delivering innovative sourcing and recruiting methods within a highly visible environment.
  • Must be highly organized with a demonstrated ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrate a strong desire for growth or learning and keep up to date on industry and management trends.
  • Ability to navigate fast paced and/or confidential situations with ease in a complex and agile environment.
