Apprentice Hourly Rates Y2 – Y4 will be $30.78 - $37.74 (including Market Supplement)

 

This position is responsible for performing highly skilled journeyperson mechanic duties in the Transit Fleet Maintenance Branch.  This position reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance and Equipment. 
 

Note: May be required to work varying day, evening and weekend shifts. Evening shifts are subject to a $1.00/Hour shift differential and Sunday shall be paid at the rate of time and a quarter.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance and overhauls bus engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, suspension, steering, HVAC and all auxiliary equipment, including electrical components.
  • Assists in determining and ordering parts and materials necessary for repair of equipment.
  • Diagnoses mechanical and electrical defects.
  • Performs Highway Traffic Board safety inspections and related repairs.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the overhauling, repair and maintenance of heavy duty and automotive equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings and manuals.
  • Ability to prepare concise reports related to all work performed.
  • Ability to maintain co-operative and harmonious working relations with other employees.
  • Demonstrated skill in diagnosing mechanical defects on a variety of equipment.

Education & Experience

Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through completion of a Journeyperson Certificate in Truck and Transport Trade, Heavy Duty Mechanics, Agriculture Machinery Technician or Automotive Service Technician, combined with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in truck and transport mechanical repair including training and experience in the heavy-duty automatic transmission and automotive electrical fields. Training and experience in Allison Automatic and ZF Transmissions, Automotive Electrical systems, and Cummins diesel engines is preferred.

Working/Other Conditions

Must have or be able to obtain a Class 5A License.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate is required
  • Minimum two years of experience as a Millwright, preferable in a food production facility

  • Highly motivated – able to work well with minimal supervision

Key Duties:

  • Provide in-person visitor services and sell promotional items primarily at the City of Regina YQR airport and at various adhoc events that happen around the City of Regina.
  • Receive inbound calls and inquiries, record details, determine customer needs, identify solutions, and escalate queries as required.
  • Respond to emails and social media queries within defined timelines.
  • Educate the public on using the City of Regina tourism website.
  • Utilize, consult, and update computerized records.
  • Perform cash management functions, including revenue collection, record-keeping, and balancing.
  • Act as an ambassador for the city by greeting customers, answering inquiries, and managing deliveries and visitor flow.
  • Conduct searches, input & validates data, generates reports and lists from various programs and applications.
  • Distribute informational materials and guides and sell promotional items.
  • Communicate information, instructions, and updates to relevant departments and staff.
  • Manage inventory and ensure an adequate supply of information materials for the kiosk.
  • Support the manager of destination development and assist with administrative duties for the work Tourism Regina team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The successful candidate will have completed secondary school or equivalency and will have on-the-job customer service experience.
  • Have exceptional customer service & communication skills for in person, on the phone, and via email. Must be outgoing and comfortable talking to visitors. 
  • Strong organizational skills & time management skills
  • Ability to work independently with strong judgement.
  • Understand the municipal organization structure and related external agencies' programs and services related to tourism.
  • Skilled with office productivity software, internet browsers, search engines, enterprise software, discipline-specific software, and technology devices.
  • Responding sensitively and appropriately to customer needs.
  • Providing written responses to email and social media queries

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license with expected traveling typically around Regina city limits to various events at various locations as required.
  • Required to move, lift, and carry deliveries/objects/equipment/supplies/files to different locations.
  • Sitting and standing intermittently through a shift.
  • Comfortable working independently and alone throughout a shift.  
  • Working on a computer/tablet. 

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy.
  • Proof of education is required.
  • Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies, skills, and knowledge.
