The Opportunity:

Our pork processing plant in Brandon is currently seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and energetic individual to join the Maple Leaf family. This is a full-time relief position

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Perform Maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Act as shift relief to cover vacations and absence of shift operators.
  • Complete all PMs as assigned.
  • Complete Work orders as assigned.
  • Shift coverage general duties when relieving.
  • Conduct inspections of the entire production plant both outside and inside as per rounds inspection detail
  • Monitor fire system, report deficiencies as found, respond to ERT location in the event of alarm.
  • Written and verbal communications with plant personnel, packaging supervisors, process supervisors, maintenance personnel and plant operators.
  • Service/inspect HVAC systems, change filters, coordinate with trades and contractors.
  • Respond to the physical location for service calls from HVAC customers.
  • Respond to leak reports from in plant customers (air, steam, ammonia).
  • And other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 3rd Class Power Engineer ticket is required with active progress towards 2nd Class ticket
  • 1 – 5 years’ experience in a power plant operation as a 3rd class is required
  • Good Practices and safe operation of power plant
  • Proficient computer skills with standard software (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, flexible
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Capable of lifting 10 kg up and down stairs
  • Previous work experience in boiler, ammonia refrigeration, steam and power distribution
  • Previous work/experience, PLC an asset
  • Troubleshooting experience an asset

As a Labourer in SWO, you will perform duties related to the control of waste disposal at the Landfill Site, Community Programs and Collections. You will perform the functional operation of the scale used to classify, weigh, record and perform cashier duties for various commodities delivered to the Landfill. You will perform duties relating to community clean-up, cart maintenance, inspections & enforcement activities throughout the City. 

Typical duties include:

  • Maintain the operational work areas and weigh scale to operational standard.
  • Oversee the classifying of materials and weighing of vehicles carrying various types of commodities entering the Landfill.
  • Operate the computer to register all loads, weights and commodities delivered to the Landfill.
  • Perform cashier duties including handling money, relinquishing change and the issuance of receipts, cash balance and deposits.
  • Provide courteous customer service and respond to general inquiries from the public regarding issues related to Landfill Operations.
  • Monitor and check loads for unauthorized material and ensure that material to be disposed of is properly classified. Inspect scale tickets to ensure the correct charge is applied for the commodity being disposed of.
  • Perform general labourer duties in the construction or maintenance areas within the Landfill Operations Branch and Collections.
  • Operate and maintain equipment and vehicles assigned to the Landfill or Collections
  • Load and unload heavy material and equipment.
  • Follow all safety regulations and Bylaws regarding for Solid Waste Operations
  • Investigate complaints of violations or non-adherence to the provisions of the municipal bylaws on public lands.
  • Prepares written file documentation, photographs locations as necessary for evidence and performs investigative functions as necessary to achieve compliance.
  • Performs related work as required.

The Requirements:

  • Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities are obtained through the completion of Grade 12 or General Education Development (GED) equivalency.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license (Valid Class 1A or 3A driver’s License would be an asset

Ideal Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of weigh-scale operation.
  • Experience operating powered mobile equipment and hand tools.

Work is performed independently with latitude for determining specific job methods; however, work priorities are established in consultation with the Foreman-Painters. Assignments are generally in the form of work orders and/or oral instructions but may be accompanied by detailed written instructions, sketches, drawings, specifications, maintenance schedules, etcetera. Work is subject to inspection in progress and upon completion. A Journeyperson Painter and Decorator may be required to supervise other tradespeople.
 

NOTE: May be required to work shift work and is subject to call-out when a problem arises in his/her field of expertise. The employee will be expected to provide a standardized set of tools for the trade.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares surfaces, applies paint and other protective coatings and applies wallpaper and other decorative finishes to buildings and objects.
  • Typical duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Prepares and washes surfaces with soap and water, T. S. P. , steam or solvents to remove grease, rust, scale or dirt.
  • Removes old finish by using paint remover, blowtorch, sandblaster, wire brush or scraper and smoothes surfaces with sandpaper, sanding machine or steel wool.
  • Applies putties, fillers or spackle with spatula or knife to fill nicks, depressions, holes or cracks. Tapes and repairs gyproc.

  • Applies fillers, sealers, stain and protective coatings to millwork, etc. Sets nail holes and matches putty to finished coating to fill cracks and holes.
  • Applies paint or stain to furniture, fixtures, equipment, machinery and the interior and exterior of buildings (walls, ceilings, doors, window frames and trim) using hand, mechanical applicators or spray equipment.
  • Covers walls and ceilings of buildings with decorative wallpaper or natural and synthetic fabrics.
  • Lays out and paints letters, figures and designs on sign boards or glass; may apply gold or silver leaf to glass for special signs; may draw and cut out silk screen stencils and print signs.
  • Cleans brushes, rollers, spray equipment in Varsol, soap and water or other solvents.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • An Inter-Provincial Red Seal in the trade of Machinist is required
  • Strong problem solving and computer skills
  • Must be able to work within strict established safety and work guidelines/rules to complete job
