JOB SUMMARY

Fleet Maintenance & Technical Services is responsible for: scheduled, unscheduled and emergency service; seasonal overhauls; vehicle commissioning/decommissioning; vehicle inspections and certifications; warranty monitoring; shop and specialty tool maintenance/management; maintenance of small equipment and special equipment such as fire, ambulance, ice resurfacing, turf, etc.; repair performance analysis; and Technical Services including specifying, acquiring, leasing and disposing of Municipal Fleet Vehicles.

You are responsible for performing a wide range of duties expected of a Vehicle and Equipment Technician 2, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting diagnostic inspections, performing general mechanical overhaul and repair work, and performing scheduled preventive daily maintenance inspections and repairs on vehicle system and components including, but not limited to, steering, suspension, electrical, ignition, fuel, emission control/exhaust and engine management, hydraulics, and vehicular climate control systems.  

You perform all maintenance and repairs to a wide variety of fleet vehicles systems and components including, but not limited to, vehicles powered by gas, diesel, propane or natural gas, tractors, graders, loaders, dozers, cranes, mowers, heavy vehicles (i.e. garbage trucks, zambonis, ice resurfacing equipment, etc.), and automotive associated equipment including, but not limited to, boilers and compressors.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Truck and Coach Technician 310T apprenticeship program of 6720 hours

Minimum of 2 years of experience within a Municipal Fleet or similar truck and coach environment

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Truck and Coach Technician 310T
Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Motorcycle Technician 310G for specific positions
TSSA Regulated Fuels Safety certificate (natural gas, propane and/or alternate fuel) for specific positions
Current Ontario Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certificate card for specific positions
Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated is an asset

KNOWLEDGE

  • City policies and procedures affecting shop operations

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, service manuals, schematics, drawings, work orders and any other documents used in the maintenance operation
  • Ability make estimates of materials and time required to perform the work 
  • Ability to proceed effectively with emergency work including on the road work with limited resources to provide maximum results and timelines
  • Skill in the use of jacks, hoists, overhead cranes, lift trucks and mobile lifting devices
  • Skill in the use of high-pressure gas and electric welding equipment (Mig. Arc. Bronze, steel, aluminum) to effect repairs as authorised under the technician license
  • Possess analytical skills and be detail oriented
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to work to close tolerances 
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with management, manufacturers and engineers to provide for problem solving and suggest corrections to problems found on specialized vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to provide training and explain instructions and guidelines to others effectively
  • Able to efficiently use, operate and maintain tools, precision measuring instrument, state-of-the-art automotive diagnostic and test equipment to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions
  • Possess a work record of good attendance and job performance 
  • Possess sound judgement

  • Flexible, adaptable and able to accept constructive criticism
  • Physically fit with stamina to perform the duties of the trade (which may include working in a standing position for long time)

  • Provide own hand and air tools relating to the trade (SAE & Metric as required) according to provisions of the collective agreement 
  • Able to work a variety of scheduled shifts, including week-ends, on-call, evening and nights, as per the collective agreement
     

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing       
  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated  
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.

What will your typical day look like?

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Supervisor Rail Testing you will operate CPKC owned ultrasonic test equipment. Provide accurate information on the results of the days work that will trigger rail replacements.

  • Drive CPKC owned vehicle and rental cars to locations to perform daily testing
  • Operate and maintain CPKC owned ultrasonic rail testing equipment on various segments on their assigned territory

The Passenger Movement Manager is an advocate for Air Canada’s customers in the decision-making process during day of Operations. They are responsible for a consistent Air Canada brand travel experience and brand consistency in the delivery of the Air Canada schedule. They are accountable for proactively identifying customer impacts in the Air Canada schedule and bringing proactive measures to minimize the impact of the disruption to our customers. They provide planning assistance, support, and direction to minimize customer disruptions in the deployment of operational recovery initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary gateway into SOC on matters of customer service and passenger movement. Screen requests and set priorities for action by the Operations Control Manager (OCM) and team. 
  • Coordinate within the Planning Unit additional flying, diversions, and other special operations to protect and enhance the customer experience. 
  • Identify and protect mission critical flying. (On Time Performance objectives, Crew duty day etc.) 
  • Provide flight specific customer analysis (groups, priority passengers, etc.) in support of day of flight aircraft plans and assignments. 
  • Coordinate with operational stakeholders on the passenger re-accommodation process by identifying affected flights, protection opportunities and assigning action as required. 
  • Ensure irregular operations and customer information is communicated to key operational stakeholders (airports and call centres.).
  • Complete all flight forecasting activities and ensure that are both accurate and timely. 
  • Track and log data relevant to effective customer service management as defined by the Manager, Passenger Movement. 
  • Provide continuous feedback to the Manager, Passenger Movement to improve the effectiveness of the passenger movement function. 
  • Accountable for initiation and oversight of the Emergency Response lock-out process. 
  • Monitor valid day-of-flight opportunities, constraints, and recovery options from the Operating Branches to ensure that Customer impact and down line implications are considered in the decision-making process. 
  • Provide shift coverage as required for the Manager, Passenger Movement, to ensure the function is staffed.

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education in a related field an asset.
  • Ability to work different shift patterns, including weekends, and holidays. 
  • Minimum two years Customer Service experience preferably with an airline. 
  • Knowledge in Altea CM, Inventory, Netline, Microsoft, and Communicator applications is an asset. 
  • Excellent verbal and written skills. 
  • Fundamental understanding of Airline operations, within a network carrier an asset. 
  • Sound understanding of passenger accommodation, and protection.

The incumbent will be exposed to moderate levels of stress and will work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Prepares financial reports and recommendations for senior management on the economic and financial impacts of changes in Federal and Provincial policies, programs and regulations governing financial and employment assistance programs under Ontario Works
  • Ensures that Capital and Operating budget requests meet the requirements of and are consistent with Council direction, Divisional operational plans, and corporate guidelines/targets.

  • Oversees and is responsible for the OW Service Contract reporting process to determine the Provincial share of expenditures governed by Provincial acts/legislation with various cost sharing/subsidy calculations.
  • Ensures subsidies available under OW are maximized to reduce the City’s share of expenditures.
  • Monitors and verifies movement in the Division’s reserve funds and maintains integrity of transactions.
  • Leads and participates on various Divisional and Departmental projects by providing leadership, financial expertise, and guidance.
  • Liaises with various Divisional, Departmental, Corporate and Provincial staff in all financial and budgetary activities.
  • Supervises, motivates and trains assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
  • Develops policies, procedures and recommendations for financial management and budgetary control.

 

Key Qualifications:

  1. Post secondary education in financial management and/or the completion of an accounting designation (e.g. CA, CPA) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Extensive relevant experience in the application of the principles and practices of operating and capital budget formulation, purchasing, and financial planning within a large private or public sector organization.
  3. Considerable experience in performing budget and financial analysis assignments, specifically compiling, and analyzing financial and statistical data and making appropriate recommendations.
  4. Considerable experience in the preparation and delivery of reports and presentations, explaining financial supporting analysis in the context of proposing effective strategies and making recommendations to senior management.
  5. Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, conflict resolution, problem solving skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and foster effective internal and external relationships.
  6. Sound judgment and ability to handle matters of a confidential, proprietary, or sensitive nature as they relate to Council, other senior staff and the public.
