The Opportunity

The Manager, Transformation Office is a hands-on leader responsible for the operational engine of BC Ferries’ business transformation portfolio. This role owns the day-to-day mechanisms that keep programs and projects moving—project lifecycle and delivery methods, financial tracking and forecasting, purchase orders and requisitions, standardized reporting, tools and dashboards, resource and capacity management, and the coordination of training, communications, and business readiness activities across initiatives.

We are seeking a customer-minded individual who plays a critical role in vessel operations and safety.  

Reporting to the Chief Officer, Deckhands are responsible for:  

• Directing vehicle and foot passenger traffic on the vessel, and to and from shore to the vessel 

• Communicating in person and or by radio with ships’ officers and ticketing staff 

• Checking propane tanks are shut off, and tagged 

• Securing car decks and foot passenger gates prior to departure 

• Carrying out under direction general ships’ husbandry, cleaning and maintenance duties of the interior and exterior of the vessel including but not limited to garbage pickup, cleaning mess rooms, stairwells and interior windows; pushing, pulling and lifting heavy stores; chipping and scrapping surfaces; and painting 

• Patrolling the vessel to watch for unusual situations, potential safety hazards and passenger compliance with regulations; standing fog, bridge or anchor watch; steering the vessel under the direction of a deck officer when serving as a quartermaster; and keeping a constant lookout for marine traffic and navigational hazards

As a Project Coordinator, you lead low complexity vessel projects from start to finish—planning, execution, monitoring, and closure. You work under the guidance of a Senior Project Manager and support more complex vessel projects by assisting Project Managers ensuring the Project Team delivers the defined project scope and deliverables within budget, on schedule, at the required level of quality, and within the acceptable level of health, safety, security and environmental risk. We are seeking highly motivated, experienced and qualified Marine Engine Mechanics, preferably with marine engine and/or thruster experience to fill a position at our Fleet Maintenance facility in Richmond.

This position will support the refit and capital project requirements for our fleet of vessels and will be performing the following: services, repairs and refits of vessel engines, systems, and equipment including engine components, compressors, and pumps, relief and safety valves, cylinder heads, cooler cores, clutches and engine blocks; measures and inspects bearings, cylinders, pistons, and turbochargers; repairs and tests of fuel injection systems, including pumps and injectors; operates large and small mobile cranes, forklifts and winches.  Provides a ‘lead hand’ role for new employees and helpers; and performs additional duties as required.

You have a thorough understanding of Work Safe BC regulations and safe working practices and working knowledge of relevant materials, tools and equipment. You hold a relevant BC or Interprovincial Trade Qualification in one or more of the following trades: Heavy Duty Mechanic, or Millwright.
