PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of all systems associated with CPKC's Work Equipment group, including mechanical, electrical and hydraulic machinery/equipment.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Make Inspections and tests. Repair or replace parts with limited resources in remote locations outdoors
  • Perform welding repairs
  • Investigate and locate equipment problems and take corrective action minimizing the impact on crew production
  • Plan work and co-ordinate it with others
  • Prepare and submit equipment maintenance records, time sheets etc.
  • Obtain certification in CPKC safety rules
  • The work location is outdoors and, therefore, you will be working in all weather conditions (rain, direct sunlight, snow etc.)
  • Will be required to be away from home and will stay in with meal allowance provided

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Journeyman's certificate as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic/Technician OR a Journeyman’s certificate as an Automotive Mechanic/Technician, OR a registered and active 2nd or 3rd year apprentice in Heavy-Duty Mechanics
  • Ability to carefully monitor gauges, instruments, or processes
  • Ability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment
  • Ability to follow instructions; solid written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be able to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks and change focus quickly as demands change
  • An emphasis on safety is critical for all employees. This is a high risk environment - working around heavy moving equipment.

  • Minimum of two-three years’ experience in dock and/or P&D dispatch operations, preferably in the transportation industry
  • Other experience in the transportation industry may be considered and in addition to dock/dispatchexperience would be considered an asset. 
  • Strong communication skills in both English and French
  • Advanced computer skills as well as experience with MS Office products and web based programs.  Previous experience with Truckmate and Bringg is an asset
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Analytical thinker, able to analyze data and make operational decisions based on that data
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to respond to demands in a calm manner.

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Human Resources Supervisor to join our dynamic Talent Programs team. 

 

The Talent Programs team oversees recruitment, talent development, and employee engagement initiatives to ensure a capable workforce that supports Canadian Blood Services mission and vision as well as implementing HR policies and programs that adhere to regulatory requirements. In this role, you will be you will be responsible for supervising the human resources support programs for western Canada, including activities related to life cycle and pay related events.  You will be responsible for supervision, standardization, execution, and evaluation of support activities, ensuring effective and efficient people and process management for the Human Resources Support team.

  • Leveraging your excellent leadership skills, you will supervise the Human Resources Support team in the West, including developing and supporting employees and managing priorities.
  • Drawing on your knowledge or experience in Human Resources, you will focus on developing and implementing automation and efficiencies of the HR support functions.
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills you will supervise the delivery of HR Support services in the designated region, working with both internal and external stakeholders, including being a subject matter expert and coaching HR Representatives on difficult transactions.
  • You will oversee organizational management in their area through Position Control functions.  Also ensure a standard approach to organizational management across Canadian Blood Services, by working with other HR Services Supervisors and Manager.
     

Desired education and skills

 

  • Completion of post secondary education. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years experience supporting and leading a team.  Experience in supporting a sophisticated HRIS system is required, preference for SAP.
  • Previous experience with organizational management process.
  • Previous experience within a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams, and SharePoint.

Maintain, repair, inspect, diagnose and customize City vehicles and equipment.


KEY DUTIES

Repair vehicles and equipment and perform preventive maintenance; identify problems using various precision diagnostic instruments and specialty software programs; remove, clean, inspect, test, repair or replace defective components using tools of the trade; reinstall and perform necessary calibrations and adjustments; perform Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) inspections of vehicles and equipment and approve vehicles.

Operate and test repaired equipment and vehicles and make necessary adjustments; operate related equipment and machinery such as welding and cutting equipment, forklifts, cranes and hoists. Conduct manual testing, and determine service requirement for fire extinguishers.

 

Prepare new vehicles to user requirements; design, customize and install electrical, electronic and hydraulic systems and other equipment; make recommendations on mechanical suitability of new equipment. Repair and fabricate vehicle components for installation. Participate in annual testing of aerial device inspection by independent service provider.

 

Respond to on-site service and emergency repair calls; review mechanical problems with operators; contact commercial transport agency to review specifications and regulations; contact dealers to discuss problems with vehicles and exchange technical advice. Utilize various resources to research solutions and diagnose mechanical problems. Contact contractors to arrange for repairs to police vehicles.

 

Complete computerized and manual records of equipment inspection, repair and service; order parts from suppliers.
