Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Signs and Pavement Markings or designate, this position is responsible for but not limited to, a variety of duties related to the maintenance and operational activities of the Traffic Section.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Installs and removes traffic signage and supports.
• Applies pavement markings.
• Installs and removes electronic speed boards.
• Loads and unloads trucks with supplies and equipment.
• Assists in routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
• Operates City vehicles and machinery as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Exposure to variety of weather conditions, noise, vibration, unpleasant smells etc.
• Exposure to concrete, asphalt, dust, flying particles etc.
• Requires lifting, pulling and carrying of heavy equipment and objects.
40 hrs/week, Monday to Friday. Normal working shift/days - 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with an unpaid half hour for lunch.
Skills and Qualifications
• Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent;
• Experienced in the use and operation of traffic paint machine, hydraulic coring machine, pavement marking grinders is an asset;
• Experience/knowledge related to the construction industry is preferred;
• Previous experience in the public sector is preferred;
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team environment, be self-motivated and cooperative a must;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to strong customer service and conflict resolution;
• Availability and dependability to work shifts and overtime is an asset;
• Working knowledge of Health and Safety Act is an asset;
• Must have a valid Ontario Class G driver's license and driving record in good standing. A driver’s abstract will be required to verify a driving record in good standing.
• Ability to carry out the full range of physical demands of the position such as lifting, pulling and carrying of heavy equipment and objects, etc.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Have a current and valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license or higher for a minimum of two (2) years with no more than two (2) demerit points and have no pending charges under the Highway Traffic Act that may result in two (2) or more demerit points.
- Level of reading, writing, and learning skills normally attained through the completion of a high school education
- Minimum of six (6) months public facing customer service experience (dealing directly with the public/customers).
- Experience driving a commercial vehicle or other large vehicle is an asset.
- Ability to Assist customers and emergency services (under the direction from Network Operations Control).
- Interpersonal skills to maintain customer relations.
- Good verbal communication skills to communicate with customers in different situations (detours, emergency info, etc.)
- Require the ability to receive, understand and follow instructions audibly in the field on a regular basis.
- Able to work independently within varying shifts/schedules, sit for extended periods of time, exercise a high degree of visual concentration, and drive large vehicles safely in variable weather and traffic conditions.

Reporting to the Supervisor fibre Technical Services, the successful candidate will bring value to the team through efficiently completing the permit administration process for the Fibre to the Home project.
- Responds to e-mail, telephone or fax inquiries; provides guidance and answers questions regarding FTTH processes, counter services, and refers inquiries to the appropriate City sections or staff for assistance.
- Receives permits applications and ensures that all required application information and associated documentation is submitted and correct.
- Enters and processes permit applications in an enterprise system accurately and in a timely manner.
- Tracks permit application progress, enters updated information and processes the permits
- Advises applicants of the status of their permit application and the required fees and/or security deposits payments
- Receives and processes payments and deposits, including Letters of Credit ensuring compliance with Cash Handling Policies
- Assigns correct GL accounts to payments and issues receipts
- Ensures the safe keeping of funds and sensitive information and maintains records
- Assists with the reconciliation of daily revenues and bank deposits, including armoured courier pick up as required
- Interacts and collaborates with other divisions and sections regarding permit process, fee payments, security deposits and other counter services
- Attends and participates in team meetings and other meetings and keeps up to date with changes procedures
- Provides back-up support to the Permit Administration Staff, FTTH project staff, and Public Utilities Coordination
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of counter/customer service experience dealing with permits and/or payments
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills along with demonstrated commitment to service excellence, quality and client communication
- Experience in cash handling procedures, including reconciling daily cash and Point of Sales transactions and preparation of bank deposits
- Strong attention to detail and math skills are required to ensure correct payments are processed and allocated to the appropriate account numbers
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to explain complex procedures to customers and others
- Strong computer skills with proficiency with Excel, SQL, Word, powerpoint, and an understanding of database systems
- Proficient with Infor Public Sector Enterprise System
- Able to deal with irate/difficult customers as well as stressful and unpredictable situations
- Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize what needs to be done
- Able to handle heavy workloads and able to multitask on a regular basis
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to work productively and collaboratively with the immediate team, staff, residents, contractors and external agencies
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work collaboratively in a team environment
- Must maintain a high standard of confidentiality with sensitive information
