5.    Assists with the review and revision of operational documentation; i.e. job numbers, maintenance routes, inventories, etc.
6.    Assists with the resolution of public and outside interest groups operational concerns and coordinates required activities.
7.    Assists with the development of processes, policies, standards and specifications.
8.    Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures.  Maintains and monitors programs which affect public health and safety.
9.    Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

•    Grade 12 education.
•    Successful completion of a diploma in horticulture.
•    Three years’ progressively responsible experience in grounds maintenance or related field, including one year supervising staff.
•    Successful completion of, or ability to successfully complete, recognized supervisory courses.
•    Possession of, or ability to obtain within three months after hire, all relevant Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicator Permits.
•    Possession of, or ability to obtain, within one year after date of hire, a valid first aid certificate.
•    Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months after hire, a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Driver's Licence.
•    Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
•    Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
•    Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of parks equipment and irrigation systems.
•    Considerable knowledge of horticultural practices pertaining to turf management, pests, diseases, and floral and arboricultural maintenance.
•    Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations as they pertain to the Parks Division.
•    Demonstrated ability to supervise, direct train, develop and assess staff.
•    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, assigned staff and the public.
•    Skill in the use of a computer with word-processing, spreadsheet and database software 
•    Physical ability to perform the assigned duties, including outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Parks Supervisor, this position performs a variety of technical, operational, supervisory and administrative tasks related to the sports fields program.
