Duties & Responsibilities

1.    Co-ordinates and administers the processing of the corporate payroll.  Develops, implements, and documents procedures required to control payroll processing.
2.    Provides support to the payroll section in the form of training, problem solving and trouble shooting.
3.    Administers and reconciles exception pay such as WCB, sick bank, maternity leave, etc.
4.    Develops and reviews payroll processes and controls to ensure entries to the ERP system are accurate.  Provides technical information when required to ensure consistency of data, and coordinates with the City’s ERP Program to provide payroll system configuration requirements, resolve payroll system problems, and participates in software updates, ensuring all testing is complete and accurate.
5.    Assists with the review, development, implementation and revision of standards, controls, processes, procedures and forms related to the payroll system.  Involved with identifying and developing new system initiatives.
6.    Researches and responds to a variety of enquiries pertaining to payroll from staff, supervisors and managers in other departments, employees and outside agencies.
7.    Ensures all legislative requirements regarding tax withholding, remittance and income reporting have been met.  Prepares all CRA payments and monitors direct deposit amounts sent to the bank each payroll.
8.    Calculates, reviews and balances payroll.
9.    Ensures correct production, yearend balancing and distribution of T4 and T4A forms.
10.    Perform balance sheet reconciliations as required.
11.    Performs the duties of all payroll clerk positions if required.
12.    Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

•    Successful completion of a recognized one year post-secondary business administration related program, plus possession of the Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation from the National Payroll Institute’s Certificate Program.
•    Five years' progressively responsible related payroll and general ledger experience in an automated environment.
•    Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite programs; including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint.
•     Experience working with payroll in a large size ERP (SAP-S4) enabled organization.  Experience with SAP S4/HANA Payroll, SuccessFactors, and WorkForce would be considered an asset.

The Sr. Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Sr. Maintenance Manager. Working closely with other team members, the Maintenance Supervisor strives to maximize facility up time and daily production, while ensuring that all facility equipment is properly maintained through the application of the proper maintenance tactics. Experienced with Six Sigma and RCM, this is a “hands-on” supervisory position which is relied upon to lead tradespeople to excellence in maintenance and the achievement of world class results.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Manage, motivate, develop and provide direct leadership to maintenance staff;
  • Supervise repairs carried out by maintenance staff and/or Contractors;
  • Evaluate incoming work notifications and, when warranted, generate and prioritize a work order to cover the work;
  • Assist with the implementation of capital projects;
  • Ensure that all maintenance work is captured on work orders and entered into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
  • Ensure that all scheduled work orders are completed in the allocated time;
  • Review completed work orders for correctness and completeness;
  • Perform periodic inspections of recently maintained equipment so as to observe the quality of the maintenance performed and the operating condition of the equipment;
  • Liaise with Engineering and Operations on matters relating to equipment maintenance and availability;
  • Provide guidance to the Planner/Scheduler when approving, prioritizing and estimating work, and technical assistance when developing job plans;
  • Participate in various production meetings, KPI review meetings, and pre- and post-maintenance schedule review meetings,
  • Assist with the identification of root causes following equipment failures and development of new maintenance tasks to eliminate them in the future;
  • Ensure compliance with BRC and CFIA requirements as it relates to food safety and ensure that corrective action requests are dealt with in an effective and timely manner;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable provincial and federal labour regulations and adhere to the terms and conditions specified in the appropriate collective bargaining agreements;
  • Demonstrate an active involvement/commitment to a progressive health and safety program and food safety program;
  • Provide temporary backup for the Maintenance Managers and team leads when necessary; and other responsibilities as required.

  • Develop, train & support apprentices, skilled trades & supervisors through the onboarding period

What You’ll Bring:

  • At home in a manufacturing environment and have 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment;
  • Familiar with the concept of world class maintenance and best practices;
  • Aware of Six Sigma, RCM and autonomous maintenance principles;
  • A College graduate from an electro-mechanical program or a licensed tradesperson with related experience;
  • Conversant in preventive and predictive maintenance tactics;
  • Willing and flexible to work shifts as and when required;
  • Comfortable using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), SAP-PM preferably;
  • Recognized for their ability to troubleshoot and demonstrated organizational skills;

Qualifications

As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Maintenance team, the individual will be responsible for maintaining and servicing equipment used in the facility for the daily production of our products. Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Must be able to install, troubleshoot, and repair complex production equipment with minimal supervision
  • Operate production equipment and check performance as required
  • Strong on PM (preventative maintenance) procedures
  • Carry out oral/printed work requests and apply corrective action
  • Perform regular work orders and account for inventory and labor on a computerized maintenance program
  • Be able to read and understand mechanical drawings/schematics
  • Machining and fabricating for equipment repairs and/or upgrades

  • Understand and adhere to all plant Food Safety and Health and Safety Polices

What You’ll Bring:

  • Must hold a valid Millwright Journeyperson Certificate
  • Must have Red Seal certification
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset
  • Extensive mechanical knowledge including power transmission, pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Knowledge of conveyors, industrial/stationary engines, pumps/compressor, grinders, welding equipment, electrical/electronic controls, lathes/machining tools, power tools, fans/blowers, hydraulic systems and high-speed packaging equipment
  • Highly motivated – able to work well in a team and alone with minimal supervision
  • Sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Some heavy lifting may be required
  • Basic computer ability coupled with strong communication skills
