Truck Driver III Full-time Job

As a Truck Driver III in the Spring and Summer Night Sweeping program, you will be responsible for the operation of a truck and auxiliary equipment rated with an Alberta Government licensed gross weight in excess of 13,000 kg. 

Tasks may include: 

  • Operate trucks above a GVWR or 13,000 kg with a trailer less than 4600 kg, such as tandem axle truck, or flusher, in a safe and efficient manner, following truck routes as required 
  • Primary task for this position will be hauling sweepings for the summer night sweepers 
  • Deliver people, materials, equipment and/or parts to field crews 
  • Haul, load and move equipment and materials, including sweeping, crash attenuator, etc, between sites 
  • Conduct daily maintenance on equipment, such as cleaning and/or greasing according to manufacturer or City maintenance schedules
  • General labour duties, such as manual sidewalk cleaning, pothole and asphalt repairs, flagging and other duties as operationally required 
  • Complete paperwork and reports, such as defect slips, manifest logs, and safety and damage reports
  • Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10 
  • Experience in the operation of equipment assigned to the position or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Trucks above a GVWR or 13000kg with a trailer less than 4600kg 
  • Tandem or single axle truck engaged in street sweeping and hauling of material 
  • Ability to work nights (this position is solely night work for the duration of the positions term)
  • Weekend work is a requirement (this is not a Mon-Fri position) 
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions, including taking direction from others 
  • Ability to work independently under minimal or no supervision 
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the duties assigned to the class, specifically in the presence of various weather and environmental conditions such as dust and noise 
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
  • Ability to work at various locations around the City, including areas that may not be reachable by public transit and satellite locations from trailers that will move throughout the season 
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment (including medical monitoring and being clean-shaven for proper equipment fit) is a requirement for this position 
  • Valid Alberta Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's Permit is a requirement of this position

  • 1.    Conducts classroom and practical training for Parks maintenance power mobile equipment and handheld tools.

Qualifications

  • •    Grade 12 education.
    •    Successful completion of three core courses from a horticulture diploma program.

    •    Possession of Powered Mobile Equipment Safety Evaluator Certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
    •    Certification in relevant Power Mobile Equipment or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
    •    Successful completion of a recognized “Train the Trainer” or Adult Education program or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
    •    Possession of a valid First Aid certification within 3 months of hire

Job Details

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications

Experience: Candidates should have experience of 2 years to less than 3 years

Location: 443 New Brighton Pl SE, Calgary, AB T2Z 4W5
Shifts: Day, Evening, Overtime, Flexible Hours, Morning
Work setting: Commercial and Residential
Supervision: 1 to 2 people

 

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of handling physically demanding tasks
  • The candidates should be able to handle heavy loads efficiently
  • The candidates should be comfortable with bending, crouching, and kneeling as part of their duties.

  • The candidates should be able to align and straighten tiles
  • The candidates should be able to cut and fit tiles around obstacles and openings using hand and power cutting tools
  • The candidates should be able to pack grout into joints between tiles and remove excess grout
  • The candidates should be able to remove and replace cracked or damaged tiles
  • The candidates should be able to lay and set mosaic tiles to create decorative wall, mural, and floor designs
  • The candidates should be able to build under beds and install anchor bolts, wires, and brackets
  • The candidates should be able to cut, surface, polish, and install marble and granite
  • The candidates should be able to install tile strips
