Position Summary:

This position is responsible for a broad range of maintenance activities that are performed to keep UPS package handling facilities operating efficiently and effectively. The work is sometimes fast-paced and requires routine interaction with other operations employees.

  • Inspecting troubleshooting repairing and/or replacing hydraulic equipment such as hoses, fittings, cylinders and pumps.

  • Performing preventive maintenance inspections of plant equipment such as conveyors, bulk carts, and power industrial equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid 5760 Industrial Construction and Maintenance Mechanic or 5781 Automated Systems Electromechanic Certification of Qualification is highly preferred but extensive relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience performing maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Ability to receive and give instruction over radio in industrial environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

To maintain the track and surrounding areas using moderate physical labour and technology (automated machinery). We use technology as much as possible to eliminate physical stress on the body. Duties can include replacing and repairing various track components including rails, railway ties, fences and adjusting the alignment and the surface of the track as well as responding to emergencies and track outages.

 

This is a travelling position where your typical schedule with be 8 on/6 off. While travelling, you will receive a rate premium, mileage, hotel accommodations, meal expenses, etc.  You will receive 2 weeks paid training to set you up for success as a Railroader.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Moderate to heavy physical labour on an assigned area of track. This work involves:

  • Pulling track spikes
  • Applying rail anchor
  • Shoveling crushed rock
  • Bending & lifting up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Repetitive tasks
  • An emphasis on safety is critical for all employees. This can be a high-risk environment as you will be working around heavy moving equipment
  • Employees must remain focused at all times and be willing to work in a team environment
  • The work location is outdoors and, therefore, you will be working in all weather conditions (rain, direct sunlight, snow etc)

As a Dock Supervisor, you are accountable for ensuring that the dock employees are working in a safe and efficient manner. You are responsible to ensure smooth operations, efficiencies, people management, freight flow, change implementation, and safety, aligned to operational expectations and guidelines. This position is all about the effective management of freight flow through the management of people and safety, continuous improvement, problem solving and effective communication.

 

How You’ll Help

  • Lead and manage a fast paced and high volume dock operation though a team of supervisors, lead hands, and front line employees to ensure the accurate and timely completion of all dock activities and supporting office tasks.
  • Coach and develop team members using a positive attitude, collaboration, clear communication, and direction. Make informed decisions based on safety, service, and productivity standards, with an understanding of company processes, policies and procedures.
  • Initiate and lead process and customer experience improvements, while meeting deadlines and controlling costs.
  • Understand and use key metrics to manage terminal performance, including load factor, on-time delivery, LMS, and freight flow.
  • Prioritize the unloading and loading of freight, moving all damaged freight and returns appropriately.
  • Recognize risks and problems and work collaboratively with others to practical and speedy resolution. 
  • Ensure and monitor the continuous flow of communications and information relating to freight delivery so the appropriate parties are aware of solutions/actions to be taken to ensure safe and timely operations. 
  • Other related duties related as may be required.

 

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience.
  • Forklift certified
  • Trained in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • WHMIS certified
  • Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred, various roles within transportation would be beneficial 
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a terminal setting, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Experience leading a team of front line employees, managers, and supervisors
  • Contributing to the development of and managing to an annual operating budget.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to get things done through others and people development.
  • Computer skills with MS Office products and web based programs.  Experience with AS400 a definite asset

  • Ability to multi task and prioritize workload

The Dock Planner is responsible for coordinating activities within terminal dock operations to provide support to the Dock Supervisor and Operations Manager as well as monitor the P&D plans and ensure on-timely service of freight delivery.

 

How You’ll Help

  • Assist in monitoring the P&D plans created by the P&D Planners.
  • Assignment of equipment to fulfill the P&D plans.
  • Update TMS door board and ensure trailers stating 100%.
  • Monitor freight plans and freight flow
  • Ensure freight delivery is servicing on time, monitor appointments, and ensure appointments are flowing to the P&D plans.
  • Collaborate with P&D Planners on planning and removing freight that cannot be serviced.
  • Support Managers and Supervisors on real time coding of service failures.
  • Support supervisors and managers on the creation of TRIPS beyond outbound plans.
  • Monitor outbound and transfer freight to ensure all freight moves smoothly each night.
  • Other related duties may be required.

 

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Minimum of secondary education
