What you will be doing:  

  • Providing welcoming service to all colleagues arriving to the colleague housing office, offering counsel and support when necessary
  • Elevate and advance department processes and SOPs
  • Coordinate the day to day Glacier Residence and open-market housing portfolio inventory
  • Assistance of biweekly rental revenue postings
  • Responsible for departmental administration, including biweekly payroll processes
  • Coordinate email communication of incoming and outgoing colleagues within colleague housing
  • Participate with data entry and follow through of purchasing utilizing the purchase order system
  • Promote in-house colleague housing bylaws
  • Assist with the coordination of capital projects, upgrades, and renovations 
  • On-call respondent to afterhours emergencies
  • Expedition of maintenance work order requests
  • Manage all unit inventory including furniture, supplies, etc.
  • Coordinate the colleague housing quarterly inspections
  • Assist in the solicitation of additional open-market housing within the Sea to Sky corridor
  • Ensuring the safety of all tenants through a thorough knowledge of fire and emergency procedures

 

Qualifications

 

Your experience and skills include:

  • Hotel operation experience an asset
  • Property Manager experience an asset
  • Class 5 Drivers License with a clean drivers abstract
  • Computer experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)  and Moneris/POS Systems
  • Outgoing and proven self-starter and able to work unsupervised
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to support a collaborative environment

Main Purpose and Function

The Safety Coordinator provides advice and expertise to supervisors and work unit leaders to develop, implement and maintain safe work practices and procedures in their branches. The position is responsible for conducting risk assessments, administrating programs and preparing comprehensive evaluative reports. The Safety Coordinator is also the designated first aid attendant assigned to a work site.

 

The position reports to the Safety Manager and works closely with other branches in Engineering Services as a resource for health, safety and first aid services, attendance at joint health and safety committees, and review of workplace inspection

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive risk assessments and safety studies and writes evaluative reports recommending various measures to mitigate occupational health and safety risk; develops related safe work procedures, safety manuals, specific safety training programs and related records and documentation that is in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Develops training materials and manuals on a wide variety of specific safety training subjects; delivers or provides others with training on the delivery of same; develops and maintains related records to capture information required for safety training regulatory audits.  
  • Liaises with a wide variety of internal and external contacts; attends Branch joint health and safety committee meetings and provides advice related to the work.  
  • Maintains training and procedures manuals, reports, records, and statistics according to standards required by BC’s OHS Regulation, responds to questions and provides audit related information to regulators.
  • Assists branches with investigating accidents, prevention, and promoting safety.
  • Oversees the Occupational First Aid program, selects in-house staff for Occupational First Aid Attendant training and certification; and orders and ensures adequate first aid supplies at all required Engineering sites. 
  • Administers first aid as required
  • Provides direction to temporary staff engaged in a variety of safety related matters such as Respirator Fit testing, as required. 
  • Maintains a work place incident database and related records; prepares correspondence and a variety of reports.  
  • Other duties/responsibilities as required.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a recognized two-year diploma program in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working towards Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Designation (or eligible to apply) an asset.
  • Occupational First Aid Level II or III Certification required.
  • Experience in safety program development, implementation and monitoring in the field of engineering operations.
  • Municipal safety experience is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough and current knowledge of BC’s Workers’ Compensation Act & Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, other applicable regulations and industry best practices.

Technical:

  • Ticketing experience would be considered an asset.

Main Purpose & Function 
The Arboriculture Technician is responsible for preserving and protecting the urban forest by performing specialized technical support work for the Urban Forestry department. The Arboriculture Technician represents the Urban Forestry profession and the interests of Vancouver’s urban forest to other City Departments, levels of government, the development community, and the general public. The Arboriculture Technician will put forth contemporary arboricultural strategies and best practices in keeping with up-to-date science and research.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities 
The Arboriculture Technician plans and implements strategies to ensure quality tree planting programs. Related tasks include the administration of large planting programs in conjunction with street and development projects, and public tree stewardship events. This work will align with Vancouver’s canopy cover goal of 30% by 2050 and focus on under-represented neighbourhoods. The Arboriculture Technician is familiar with related City of Vancouver and Vancouver Park Board policies such as VanPlay to accomplish goals and strengthen the urban forest in a changing climate.  They also plan and implement tree management strategies and practices that improve the existing urban forest or its maintenance operations. The Arboriculture Technician is often the person to steward the introduction of new technologies and practices. The Arboriculture Technician will also make recommendations for improvements to methods and procedures in all aspects of Arboriculture operations and will provide technical advice to the senior staff of the Urban Forestry Department and Park Board. The Arboriculture Technician must have strong technical skills and independent judgment as they are expected to make reasonable recommendations supported by evidence on the outcome of urban forestry. This role will work collaboratively with outside departments to develop solution-oriented strategies that enhance the City of Vancouver’s urban forest.

 

Qualifications 
Education and Experience:

  • University graduation in a discipline applicable to urban forestry with preference for ISA Certified Arborist with TRAQ endorsement and some experience in the municipal arboriculture field, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Considerable experience with the methods, materials, practices, tools and equipment as used currently in arboriculture.

 

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of Vancouver Urban Forest Strategy and the Van-Tree computer program;
  • Considerable knowledge of street tree planting procedures, species profiles and their performance in the local environment, and of the tree farm cultural practice and operations;
  • Knowledge of tree species details in relation to tree planting and formulating long term tree planting schedules
  • Knowledge of tree diseases, pests, and treatment methods;
  • Ability to establish effective liaison and working relationships with co-workers, civic representatives, and the public;
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and studies;
  • Ability to conduct moderately complex technical research; identify problems; and identify and implement solutions;
  • Ability to estimate time and material requirements and costs related to program proposals;
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas, instructions, and reports orally and in writing;
  • Ability to communicate with the public in a professional manner
  • Strong working knowledge of urban forestry best practices;
  • Proficiency in tree and forest inventory, mapping and data management;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or AutoCAD and/or Adobe Suite and/or GIS; and
  • ISA Certified Arborist with Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (ISA with TRAQ), preferred

 
Driver’s License and Record Checks:

  • A current and valid BC Driver’s License and a Satisfactory National Safety Code driving record.
  • The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out job responsibilities.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Assistant Trainmaster you will assist in the efficient movement of traffic within the road territory and yard-terminal by developing, organizing and executing the daily yard-terminal/road operating plan in a safe and cost-effective manner which maximizes fluidity and achieves Local Service Operating Plan (LOSP) and Operating Plan (OP) compliance on a daily basis. This includes all processes related to arrival, classification, building, inspecting and dispatching of trains. You will also provide leadership accountability for inputs and outputs of safety, service, productivity and financial metrics.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Direct yard processes to fulfill customer car orders, Customer Service Operations instructions and Mechanical and Engineering requests for car movement and placement
  • Accountable for delivering instructions for train movements within terminal to Dispatching and Operating crews
  • Assist in the coordination of all train movements within the yard and on the mainline
  • Accountable for asset utilization within the terminal
  • Accountable for expedited train movement to reduce and meet terminal dwell time
  • Update times, delays and variances in NEXUS/Yard Planner on a continuous basis (as required)
  • Validate mechanical requirements are met for car repair spotting and inspection to maximize track availability
  • Communicate with employees for all safety initiatives and blitz’s required in the terminal
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete and properly communicated to the next Assistant Trainmaster on shift
  • Resolve non-compliance crew issues and/or opportunities for process improvement, or escalate to the Trainmaster as appropriate
  • Trouble shoot daily problems and concerns and resolve by implementing action plans and standard process
  • Perform efficiency tests and other safety activities to meet required standards
  • Review workload for LSOP assignments to ensure maximum production and efficiency of assignments
  • Contribute to the overall execution of the LSOP and OP through active supervision
  • Accountable for inventory management of terminals and line of road in their areas of responsibility
  • Assist in crew transportation to and from trains, away from home terminal hotels and for over the road requirements
  • Accountable for Transfer of Liability (TOL) notification (as required)
  • Accountable for notification and escalation of customer delays
  • Responsible for job / safety briefings of the crews
  • May be assigned Train & Engine employees to mentor and coach through active observation and providing feedback

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED
  • Must have previous railway experience
  • Previous operations related experience would be considered an asset
  • Must be able to understand the Operating Plan & Local Service Operating Plan and compliance to it as it pertains to the yard
  • Qualified Locomotive Engineer is an asset
  • Must become Conductor or Engineer qualified and occasionally operate trains
