FULL TIME DRIVER – Nanaimo

Hours: Midnight - 8am Monday to Friday

At Day & Ross, our dock team is an important part of our business. As a Dock Worker, you’ll help us handle inbound and outbound customer freight and protect it from damage. You'll also help us keep a safe and clean work environment on the dock.

How You’ll Help: 

• Handle big and bulky freight on the dock, both on and off a forklift.
• Follow TDG, WHMIS, and company policies, as well as any customer requirements.
• Pay attention to the details. Receive and ship freight accurately and efficiently.
• Other duties as required.

Your Skills & Experience: 

• High school diploma or GED
• Previous transportation or dock experience is preferred
• Willingness and ability to lift up to 75 lbs. 
• Ability to work efficiently with little to no supervision

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for three (3) essential areas:

Payroll/ Kronos Administrator

• Process and manage the weekly payroll using Kronos and SAP application
• Ensure the Island Wage Agreement is being followed while processing payroll
• Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of employee profiles and accrual

Procurement and Vendor Management

• Manage the location’s purchasing requirement through the Procurement Systems MyBuy and SAP
• Responsible for maintaining the supplier’s database and adding new suppliers to the SAP Database
• Responsible for Purchase Order requisition according to Budget Plan and actual expenditure
• Process Travel and Mastercard Expenses

Location Control and Compliance

• Responsible for the location’s compliance according to the company’s guidelines and procedures

Other Responsibilities 

• Create a welcoming and warm environment for Pepsico Beverages visitors and contractors
• Responsible for the internal and external stakeholders’ communication
• Assist in company-specific initiatives

Qualifications

• Two years of administrative experience, Payroll Administrator Experience, is desired
• Experience in software programs/applications such as Kronos, SAP, and Microsoft Office, is preferred
• Successful completion of an administrative/office management program
• Successful completion of high school diploma
• Professional accomplishments that reflect self-motivation and initiative 
• Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Salary Range

The expected compensation range for this position is between $41,600 - $69,200 based on a full-time schedule.  Your confirmed job-related skills, experience and qualifications will be considered in setting your actual starting salary

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 7 months to less than 1 year

Responsibilities:

• The candidates should be able to deliver and pick up messages, parcels, and other items by hand, operate and drive automobiles, vans, and light trucks to pick up and deliver various items and products, and demonstrate professionalism in customer service
• The candidates should be able to accept payment or invoices for items delivered, receive and relay information to central dispatch, and keep a record of items received and delivered

Schedule: Friday - Monday/ Sat and Sunday 2:30am/3am 10 hour shift. Friday and Mon 8am 10 hour shift and Holidays

As a Dock Supervisor you will be responsible for the supervision of overall dock operations, including day-to-day processes and procedures, to ensure safety and optimal dock performance. 

How You’ll Help: 

• Provide daily guidance and motivation to Dock Workers (employees and agency workers) to ensure achievement of operational objectives for the terminal. 
• Escalates issues of individual poor performance, inappropriate behavior, absenteeism, etc. to the Operations Manager.  
• Communicates monthly performance stats to the team to help measure, develop and improve operational performance. 
• Maintain policies and procedures and ensure compliance with federal and provincial transportation, safety, and employment legislation. 
• Ensure all incidents (personal injuries, transportation collisions, spills, near misses, etc.) are promptly reported, documented, an investigation is initiated and corrective/preventative measures are implemented. 
• Hold effective, weekly toolbox meetings and ensure safety issues are addressed. 
• Works with the team and others, internal and external to the terminal, to resolve roadblocks to achievement of daily operational objectives. 
• Ensure the AM schedule for the terminal is followed.  
• Works with the Operations Manager to track monthly performance stats for the dock  
• Supervise a group of Dock Workers, both employee and contractor/agency, directly and indirectly through Lead Hands. 
• Other duties related to dock operations as may be required. 

Your Skills and Experience: 

• Post-secondary education, preferably in operations, logistics, or business 
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered 
• Minimum of five years' experience in the transportation industry or warehousing industry, preferably dock operations 
• Previous leadership experience and/or experience in the transportation industry are strong assets 
• Strong leadership skills specifically the ability to motivate and drive engagement to achieve objectives, facilitate conflict resolution, and to provide training 
• Advanced communication skills, particularly verbal 
• Computer skills, including the use of MS Word, Excel & Outlook, and web-based programs as well as RF scanners.  Experience using AS400, a strong asset 
• Strong interpersonal skills including customer focus 
• Results driven 
• Appropriate sense of urgency 
• Strong sense of safety; training and experience in similar safety sense environments a strong asset 
• Knowledge of industry-related equipment, including forklifts, lift jacks, trailers, etc. a strong asset

The Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching units to pick up and deliver freight, monitor the performance of drivers and ensure customer timelines are adhered to. Part of this job is on efficient utilization, management and performance of our trailer bank Refers, Dry Vans and Long Combination Vehicles allowing the company to efficiently move optimized loads and achieve on-time service to all customers and terminals.

How You’ll Help: 

• Arrange for daily deliveries, assign pick up requests, and entre orders in the computer
• Set up appointment freight, manifest shipments, coordinate ETA's with Central, check for expedited shipments and enter missed pick-ups
• Answer phones and take pick-up requests
• Perform a dock and yard check to ensure freight is not missed and trucks are on schedule
• Coordinate drivers to come back for second round of deliveries, manifest skeleton and make linehaul orders
• Coordinate local P&D requirements
• Track lumpers hours and review requirements
• Monitor driver performance and report finding to manager
• Identify areas for improvement and efficiencies
• Other related duties as may be required

Your Skills and Experience: 

• Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (Supply Chain or Logistics Management, or a combination of education and experience
• Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred, various roles within transportation would be beneficial. New graduates or current students are welcome.
