Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Assessment Review & Appeals, the successful candidate will be responsible for tracking and processing Municipal and Assessment Act Appeals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor the business unit’s shared email inbox and respond to/distribute inquiries to staff as appropriate
  • Monitor service requests sent from the Call Centre to the business unit and assign them to the subject matter expert
  • Receive and process  appeal decision and assessment change notices as required
  • Review Assessment Review Board (ARB) Decisions for accuracy and correspond with the ARB where discrepancies are noted
  • Prepare appeal summary reports for Minutes of Settlement (MOS) settled appeals
  • Circulate MOS for signature, using DocuSign and return to all parties
  • Receive, verify and process Section 357 and 358 Municipal Act applications
  • Receive and process  Request for Reconsideration (RfR) appeals;
  • Assist with the yearly review of the City’s assessment roll in order to identify  anomalies in assessments with respect to classification and value
  • Assist with identifying inequitable property assessment/classification for City initiated assessment appeals;
  • Research and respond to assessment-related inquiries received from Members of Council, City Departments, outside agencies and the general public; 
  • Identify and recommend changes to the business unit’s internal processes in order to facilitate improved operations and services;
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary education with a minimum of two years related experience in the field of  property assessment and property taxation;
  • Completion of the Municipal Tax Administration Program (MTAP) is considered an asset;
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, procedures, policies, including but not limited to, the Municipal Act,  the Assessment Act, Assessment Review Board Rules of Practice and Procedures would be considered an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written  with an emphasis on customer service;
  • Good working knowledge of  MS Office applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint;
  • Working knowledge of TXM Tax Manager, Municipal Connect, Teranet and mapping software consider an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently with little to no supervision and collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure, prioritize competing work demands and consistently meet legislative deadlines;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to demonstrate a high level of accuracy when assembling, filing and inputting data;
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality;

  • Pre-apprentice Trailer Technicians provide support to journeypersons and to apprentices under the leadership of a journeyperson in all aspects of the maintenance and repair of trailers, including but not limited to brakes, suspension systems, surelok, tires (including psi), trailer axles, lighting systems, rear walls and doors, frame and support, chassis, lighting, wiring, hydraulics, heating & refrigeration systems.
  • Apprentice Trailer Technicians, under the leadership of a journeyperson, are involved in all aspects of the repair and maintenance of trailers (see above) and may provide general direction and guidance to Pre-Apprentice Technicians. Apprentice Technicians are expected to work more independently and exercise greater judgment through the various stages of the apprenticeship, obtaining final verification of work from a Journeyperson Technician.
  • Journeyperson Technicians independently repair and maintain trailers (see above) and provide general direction, guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians. 
  • Maintenance and repair of trailer bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hub caps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc.
  • Documentation of all findings and work done.
  • Lead Journeyperson Technicians provide work direction for all team members and act as escalation point for complex maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and training to Pre-Apprentice and Apprentice Technicians
  • Work independently to complete diagnostic, service, repair and maintain trailers.
  • Maintain and repair trailer bodies, including miscellaneous accessories such as hub caps, decals, reflective tape, painting, etc.
  • Document and update Service Supervisor/Service Manager on completion time changes, all findings, work done and potential future service requirements.
  • Other duties as may be required.

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Post secondary training in trailer repair and/or completion of trailer technician certificate course
  • Preference given to applicants with Red Seal journeyperson certification
  • Additional training in tire repairs and/or refrigeration will be considered an asset 
  • CVIP, an asset
  • Candidates enrolled in trailer repair apprenticeship may also be considered.
  • Valid Class 1 license also considered an asset
  • Previous work experience in an industrial environment, preferably in the transportation industry
  • Previous experience and qualification to perform Safety inspections are considered an asset in this position,

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide 24/7 security monitoring support for all IT operations and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to interpret, understand and communicate real business risks as they relate to technology risks.
  • Implement new technologies by participating in the evaluation of tools, software and technology practices, and help implement controls to mitigate business risks.
  • Manage the response to cybersecurity incidents and ensure that a well-defined, documented and tested action plan is in place in the event of a security incident.
  • Maintain and update all security tools, technologies and processes.
  • Provide timely and effective communications to key internal stakeholders.

 

What you bring to the table:

  • General to advanced knowledge in the following areas: computer networks, operational security platforms, information security principles, SOC, IAM, MFA, SIEM, ITSM, DLP, IPS, application development, technical writing, information risk, and international environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Technology, Information Security, an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in team management
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience in information technology.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in information security.
  • Knowledge of information security standards, regulations and legislation (NIST, COBIT5, ISO 27001), an asset.
  • Recognized certification in information security (CISSP, CISM or other), an asset.
  • Analytical mind, pragmatic approach to IT security issues and problems.
  • Strong leadership skills to facilitate collaboration within the team.
  • Strong partner in all areas, internally and externally, to provide a secure solution.
  • Ability to reduce stress in situations that are stressful to you and others.
  • Positive attitude, initiative with strong analytical and interpersonal skills to lead work groups, negotiate and build consensus.
  • Mentoring and coaching skills to develop the team within the company.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to write and present material to communicate difficult concepts and gain consensus.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple objectives.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
