Job Summary

Under supervision of the Administrative Coordinator, this position performs a variety of clerical support duties for Saskatoon Light & Power.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responds to various enquires from the public and staff, by phone or at the counter, using effective customer service techniques.
  • Responds to radio dispatch calls.
  • Sorts and delivers internal mail and courier deliveries and prepares outgoing courier deliveries.
  • Maintains inventory of office stationery, supplies, and promotional items, and issues departmental purchase orders as required.  Adheres to Corporate Purchasing Policies when procuring supplies.
  • Operates and maintains various office equipment as required.
  • Prepares a variety of correspondence, including letters, reports and forms. 
  • Maintains SharePoint libraries and lists by uploading documents accurately to ensure data integrity, audits completeness and accuracy of data in lists, and identifies issues with metadata. Creates and maintains SharePoint pages and libraries, as part of the departmental information data management system, as required.  
  • Takes accurate minutes at monthly meetings.
  • Gathers, sorts, classifies, and files information, and assists with the migration of files to storage as directed by the Records Management Technician and as specified in the Corporate Records Management System.
  • Maintains electronic and physical Utility bulletin boards.
  • Schedules and assists in preparing for tours of Saskatoon Light & Power operations centre.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Graduation from a recognized business college.
  • Typing speed of 55 w.p.m.
  • Two years’ related office experience.
  • Knowledge of records management systems and data management principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including SharePoint and Teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability with organizational and prioritization skills, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with civic staff and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

As a Dock Supervisor you will be responsible for the supervision of overall dock operations, including day-to-day processes and procedures, to ensure safety and optimal dock performance. 

 

How You’ll Help: 

  • Provide daily guidance and motivation to Dock Workers (employees and agency workers) to ensure achievement of operational objectives for the terminal. 
  • Escalates issues of individual poor performance, inappropriate behavior, absenteeism, etc. to the Operations Manager.  
  • Communicates monthly performance stats to the team to help measure, develop and improve operational performance. 
  • Maintain policies and procedures and ensure compliance with federal and provincial transportation, safety, and employment legislation.

  • Ensure the AM schedule for the terminal is followed.  
  • Works with the Operations Manager to track monthly performance stats for the dock  
  • Supervise a group of Dock Workers, both employee and contractor/agency, directly and indirectly through Lead Hands. 
  • Other duties related to dock operations as may be required. 

 

Your Skills and Experience: 

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in operations, logistics, or business 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered 
  • Minimum of five years' experience in the transportation industry or warehousing industry, preferably dock operations 
  • Previous leadership experience and/or experience in the transportation industry are strong assets 
  • Strong leadership skills specifically the ability to motivate and drive engagement to achieve objectives, facilitate conflict resolution, and to provide training 
  • Advanced communication skills, particularly verbal 
  • Computer skills, including the use of MS Word, Excel & Outlook, and web-based programs as well as RF scanners.  Experience using AS400, a strong asset 
  • Strong interpersonal skills including customer focus 
  • Results driven 
  • Appropriate sense of urgency 
  • Strong sense of safety; training and experience in similar safety sense environments a strong asset

The Sr. Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Sr. Maintenance Manager. Working closely with other team members, the Maintenance Supervisor strives to maximize facility up time and daily production, while ensuring that all facility equipment is properly maintained through the application of the proper maintenance tactics. Experienced with Six Sigma and RCM, this is a “hands-on” supervisory position which is relied upon to lead tradespeople to excellence in maintenance and the achievement of world class results.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Manage, motivate, develop and provide direct leadership to maintenance staff;
  • Supervise repairs carried out by maintenance staff and/or Contractors;
  • Evaluate incoming work notifications and, when warranted, generate and prioritize a work order to cover the work;
  • Assist with the implementation of capital projects;
  • Ensure that all maintenance work is captured on work orders and entered into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
  • Ensure that all scheduled work orders are completed in the allocated time;
  • Review completed work orders for correctness and completeness;
  • Perform periodic inspections of recently maintained equipment so as to observe the quality of the maintenance performed and the operating condition of the equipment;

  • Assist with the identification of root causes following equipment failures and development of new maintenance tasks to eliminate them in the future;
  • Ensure compliance with BRC and CFIA requirements as it relates to food safety and ensure that corrective action requests are dealt with in an effective and timely manner;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable provincial and federal labour regulations and adhere to the terms and conditions specified in the appropriate collective bargaining agreements;
  • Demonstrate an active involvement/commitment to a progressive health and safety program and food safety program;
  • Provide temporary backup for the Maintenance Managers and team leads when necessary; and other responsibilities as required.
  • Will manage Pit-crews through development and training; and other responsibilities as required

What You’ll Bring:

  • At home in a manufacturing environment and have 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment;
  • Familiar with the concept of world class maintenance and best practices;
  • Aware of Six Sigma, RCM and autonomous maintenance principles;
  • A College graduate from an electro-mechanical program or a licensed tradesperson with related experience;
  • Conversant in preventive and predictive maintenance tactics;
  • Willing and flexible to work shifts as and when required;
  • Comfortable using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), SAP-PM preferably;
  • Recognized for their ability to troubleshoot and demonstrated organizational skills;
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills;
  • Experience in a food processing or manufacturing environment would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of ammonia-based plant refrigeration systems and their operation;

  • Proven record for identifying reliability issues and participation implementing improvement strategies.             

 Highly desirable but optional qualifications include:

  • Knowledge and experience with HACCP; and
  • Membership in PEMAC or any other professional maintenance association, with or without an MMP designation.

Job Details

This position will lead a team of Customer Service Representatives by providing support, direction and exceptional customer service in a recreation atmosphere, as well as managing the day to day business of being the first contact within our recreation facilities and attractions. Some of the responsibilities of a Customer Service Coordinator include:

  • Direct supervision of staff including hiring, training, evaluating employee performance, and coaching and mentoring teams of up to 30 Customer Service Representatives
  • Direct responsible cash-handling, which includes ensuring the accuracy of daily deposits and completing weekly and monthly audits
  • Provide a high level of customer service in-person, over the telephone and via email regarding hours of operation, fee schedules, programs, lost and found items and other general inquiries
  • Establish staff schedules and shift work priorities Perform clerical work including word processing, data entry, processing of time records and statistical reports
  • Perform Customer Service Representative duties which includes locking and unlocking the facility, updating displays and signage, monitoring and controlling patron access to the facility, and processing payments for facility admissions, memberships, and more
  • Related tasks as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12, with an emphasis on general office practices or completion of an appropriate certificate program from an approved school/college
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Customer Service Representative or comparable equivalent, which includes full customer service and cash-handling responsibilities, inventory control, program information and registrations
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating the work of others, including scheduling, delegating work, coaching and evaluating performance would be an asset
  • Excellent customer service skills, and demonstrated ability to effectively and courteously deal with the public. Customer service training would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and resolving escalated customers
  • Proficiency with a variety of related computer software programs including Google Applications and recreation or attraction related registration and booking software
  • Excellent knowledge in recreation facility practices, policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated skill in accurate, efficient and secure cash handling
  • Highly developed and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including effective facilitation skills
  • Proficient skills in organization, time management and prioritization
  • Proven ability in decision making in accordance to established policies and procedures, with skill in monitoring business performance, including customer service and transaction measures
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, including proficient skills in interpersonal management, collaboration, sharing and solution creating while working with others
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to emergency situations, including performing first aid treatment
  • Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR and AED certifications are required prior to employment
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Facility operations are 7 days per week and 17+ hours per day. Shifts vary based on facility operating hours with evening and weekend work required. You must provide open availability for all operational hours for a minimum of five days/week including one weekend shift.

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary: $22.361 - $27.765 (Hourly)

  • Pre-trip trailers in both dock doors and yard and perform minor repairs as required.
  • Work with dispatch and dock to identify trailers to be pre-tripped.
  • Minor repairs to trailers include but not limited to, lights, glad-hands, etc.
