Senior Parks Maintenance Worker (3 Temporary – up to 8 months)

POSITION FUNCTION

Senior Parks Maintenance Workers contribute to the enhancement and upkeep of the City’s public parks and open spaces, utilizing specialised skill in the operation of industrial vehicles and a variety of hand tools and power equipment, to ensure the continued excellence of the City’s public spaces.

KEY DUTIES

Park Maintenance Support

 Assist with Park operations by performing assigned tasks in horticulture, arboriculture, turf, and infrastructure such as:

• Mowing, trimming, weeding, digging, raking, and removing refuse and debris.
• Preparing, planting, and maintaining flower and shrub beds, landscapes, boulevards, turf, sports fields, and young trees.
• Constructing and maintaining pathways, hard infrastructure, playgrounds, irrigation, furniture, playground equipment and ponds and streams.

• Maintaining cemetery grounds and assisting with interments.
• Grinding stumps, chipping brush and with direct supervision light pruning.

• Industrial tractors equipped with turf/horticultural attachments.
• Small crane operation for loading and unloading materials and equipment.

Main Purpose and Function

Reporting to the Lead Quality Engineer, the Quality Engineer is responsible for providing support and advice to Engineers throughout the City and is responsible for achieving excellence in Quality Assurance by conducting internal quality audits, overseeing document control and supporting continuous improvement. This position works closely with project sponsors, key business stakeholders and user representatives to ensure that their requirements are well understood and addressed.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Administer standard QMS processes such as Document Control, Continual Improvement, Quality Audits, etc.
• Develop, document and improve processes within Engineering Services, with inputs from the branches.
• Conduct internal quality audits.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and considerable related experience managing increasingly complex projects events or initiatives, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-In-Training in British Columbia is required.
• Training in Project Management methodologies, practices and processes preferably consistent with those provided by the Project Management Institute.
• Experience in at least two of the Quality Engineer Body of Knowledge Areas as defined by the American Society for Quality (e.g. Management and Leadership, Quality Management System, Continuous Improvement, Quantitative Methods and Tools, etc.).

Main Purpose & Function

This position works within the Animal Services Department in a fast paced customer service oriented front line environment. The incumbent is responsible for dispatching Animal Control Officers in the field, operating a switchboard, communicating on a radio system and performing a wide variety of clerical duties. Employees of Animal Services operate under non-standard hours of work with established hours of 8:00am – 8:00pm, including weekends. An unrestricted availability to work within the non-standard hours of operation is highly desirable. 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Duties include: preparing and processing various forms and documents including dog license applications and renewals, investigative statements and reports, animal impound forms, adoption applications and all other documents related to the department’s administrative process. Process incoming office mail and emails. Attend front line customer service and reception including dispatch, operating a switchboard and responding to public inquiries regarding the Animal Control Bylaw and kennel processes. Attend incoming complaints and dispatch calls for the Animal Control Officers while practicing efficiency and diplomacy.  Check daily cash deposits and process all related documents and reports. Perform duties with little supervision and make independent decisions based on knowledge of departmental and City Policies and Procedures. Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by related administrative and standard software courses, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Knowledge of dog related issues including various dog breeds and kennel procedures is an asset.
• Knowledge of the Animal Control By-Law no. 9150 and the related prosecution process is an asset.
• Working knowledge of the geography of Vancouver including streets, parks and schools, is preferred,

The Building Worker is responsible for performing a variety of heavy cleaning tasks including stripping and waxing floors, cleaning windows, cleaning washrooms, showers and change rooms, carpet cleaning, emptying garbage, minor maintenance repairs and other related duties as required.

Building Worker - Mobile Parks

The Mobile Parks Building Worker will provide janitorial services for the citywide inventory of public bathrooms and change rooms in parks. Duties include, but are not limited to: opening, stocking, spot and deep cleaning, and locking facilities.
