Under supervision of the Watershed Protection Manager, this position coordinates environmental programs and delivers plans and projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Develops and delivers corporate and community programs linked to initiatives such as Corporate Spills Response, Wetlands Policy, Environmental Management System, the Green Network, and general environmental protection topics. 
  2. Works closely with communications staff and contractors to facilitate the development of communication campaigns to support programs and communicate environmental messages.  This may involve creating content, reviewing materials, updating the website, and delivering education at public events, community meetings, or exhibits.
  3. Monitors and measures environmental programs and other environmental performance metrics and develops, prepares, and presents reports.
  4. Acts as a liaison with community associations, environmental organizations, City departments, and other agencies and organizations involved in environmental initiatives.
  5. Serves on various committees to elicit inter-departmental or community cooperation and participation in the implementation of various environmental programs and projects.
  6. Assists with securing project funding from both internal and external sources, this may include preparation of and reporting on grant applications and preparing internal reports and memos.
  7. Assists in the development of strategic and business plans on environmental and sustainability initiatives by working with consultants, advising on content, and facilitating reviews and advice from other City staff. 
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a related field.
  • Four year’s experience in the environmental management field including experience working with spills and discoveries, wetlands, and other sensitive environments.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating safe driving record.Knowledge of environmental protection, program development, and program delivery.
  • Knowledge of municipal bylaw, provincial and federal regulations related to environmental protection.
  • Knowledge of research, planning and evaluation processes as they relate to environmental projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including preparing and presenting complex technical reports.

  • Erects barricades, directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
  • Conducts pipe cleaning programs, including conventional flushing, unidirectional flushing and swabbing to maintain water quality.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of all field activities and prepares required reports, including inspections, test results and recommendations.
  • Assumes duties of Water System Operator as required.
  • Assumes duties of Water & Sewer Trouble as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Abilities And Skills

  • Knowledge of the methods, techniques, equipment, tools, materials and terminology used in operating, inspecting and maintaining water distribution systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot various hydrant problems and customer concerns, operate all valves, hydrants and other water distribution system appurtenances.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to perform basic sampling and testing for water quality, using standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to make mathematic calculations rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, civic employees and contractors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including recording data.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties in varying weather conditions and extremes of temperature.
  • Ability to perform confined entries complete with necessary fall protection equipment and air quality monitoring equipment.
  • Skill in the use and care of computer hardware and related software.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • One years’ related water or sewer system operation and/or maintenance experience, including experience in the operation of machinery and power tools used in water & sewer construction OR certificate of completion from an approved Water & Wastewater program.
  • Level 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be considered an asset.
  • Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be an asset.

As an Associate Financial Consultant, Acquisition you will

  • Three years’ related water system operation and/or maintenance experience, including one year’s experience in the operation of the machinery and power tools used in Water & Sewer construction.
  • Possession of Level 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board.
  • Possession of Level 3 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be considered an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Fireman's Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Licence
  • Must comply with all safety related requirements
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
