  • 4+ years of recent experience working with Python
  • 4+ years of recent experience in Microservices and API development in an enterprise environment

  • Working experience with Shell scripting in Unix/Linux environments

The Transit Fleet and Facilities Maintenance team provides safe, reliable, efficient, timely and cost-effective transit vehicle maintenance services to support federally regulated transit services within the City of Ottawa. 

You are responsible for performing a wide range of duties expected of a Truck and Coach Technician, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting diagnostic inspection of vehicles*, performing general mechanical overhaul and repair work , and performing daily maintenance repairs.  You perform all unit changes or repairs to Fleet vehicles (including but not limited to transmission, brakes, suspensions, electrical components, injectors, radiators, steering, differentials and air systems) and make miscellaneous adjustments to doors, destination signs and other vehicle systems.

vehicles*-refers to buses within the Transit Fleet Maintenance Division and any other Fleet vehicle within the Municipal Maintenance Division (cars/trucks, forklifts, etc.). 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Truck and Coach Technician apprenticeship program of 6720 hours

Completion of advanced technical courses is an asset

Minimum of 1 year of experience following attainment of certification

 

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Truck and Coach Technician 310T

KNOWLEDGE

  • City policies and procedures affecting shop operations
  • Considerable knowledge of the vehicle systems, and the standard methods, tools, and equipment used in the trade

  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

  • A university degree in Human Resources or related field.  Professional Human Resources designation (CPHR) preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive related human resources experience in a large organization, preferably within the public sector and union environment.
  • Considerable experience working within the labour relations field.
  • Full cycle recruitment experience, experience with high volume recruitment is preferred.
  • Experience supporting training and development programming.
  • Experience in a municipal or library environment and familiarity with local government regulatory requirements would be an asset.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge of Human Resources practices, including labour relations.
  • Thorough knowledge of recruitment best practices.
  • Current knowledge of library service, administration and management would be an asset.
  • Strong commitment to serving clients; open, pragmatic and responsive to clients and community.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the delivery of human resources services and to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time.
  • Ability to be innovative and flexible in a rapidly changing library environment, and to lead organizational change, development of staff and teamwork
  • Demonstrated level of professionalism and confidentiality with strong ethics.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability supplemented by strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Good working knowledge of database programs and proficient with programs including Microsoft Office and advanced complex human resources systems.

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and replacing filters and performing minor preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment on all client sites to maintain the efficiency and mechanical integrity of HVAC units. This position is well-suited for graduates of a college or other post-secondary programs in HVAC studies.
 
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • All routine maintenance and inspection, regardless of the size of location of the mechanical equipment being inspected or maintained, where this work is done as a periodic routine service inspection maintenance procedure by the employer, limited to:
    • Filter Changing and the maintenance thereof.
    • All oil and greasing.
    • All belt adjusting or replacement.
    • Cleaning of cooling towers, coils, evaporator and condenser tubes and water treatment.
    • Delivery of parts and equipment.
    • General housekeeping.
